Just the right place
Everything was just right! My family enjoyed our Thanksgiving Holiday stay at the "The Garden St. House". The kitchen was even plenty big enough for us to prepare our Thanksgiving feast, and it was equipped with almost everything we needed. My grandaughters made friends with the children nextdoor. It was great place for a family gathering. The owner was very helpful and responded promptly to every question I had. The place was very cozy, comfortable and clean. Just as described on the website.

Eastside Sanctuary
This Garden Street house is aptly located in what feels like a lush quiet retreat with the added benefit of being just minutes from downtown Austin! Vibrant decor and comfy atmosphere lend grounded calm to the lofty ceilings and spaciousness of this house. I highly recommend this garden gem on the Eastside!

Pleasant and Comfortable House in a Great Neighborhood
A family group of 7 stayed here for two nights for an event in east Austin. The owner, Paprika Leaverton, responded promptly each time to my needs/questions in making the reservation. The house was clean and has a kitchen that is well-stocked with dishes and utensils for cooking. Everything was in working order and there are lots of table surfaces available for keeping our belongings organized. There was plenty of seating and the beds were comfortable. It is an older home that retains its vintage charm. One of the best parts of the stay was the neighborhood. I have lived in Austin in the past and was surprised about how vibrant east Austin has become. There are tons of cute coffee shops and eateries in waking distance from the house. It is an active, lively community with people of all ages and cultures living there. Lots of homes were in the process of being renovated. People were everywhere, out walking their dogs or getting around on bikes. It was fun to sit on the front porch and watch. Despite all the activity, and proximity of the houses, it was surprisingly VERY quiet at night. Not a single dog bark or car was heard! The trash pick up was a tad noisy one morning, but that happens in any neighborhood.Someone lives upstairs, but you wouldn't know it. My one suggestion is that the middle bedroom could use a mirror above the desk for getting dressed when others are occupying one of the two nice bathrooms. I would love to stay here again.

Great for my whole family
My family went to Austin this past weekend for a wedding. We chose to stay at the Garden St. House because it offered the most affordable price for the amount of sleeping and seating space my family needed. The house has a unique feel to it, which resonates with the "Keep Austin Weird" slogan. My family appreciated the unique setting, especially since it accommodated all of us within our budget. There was enough sleeping for 8, and we could also all sit in the living room together to talk and play games. We could also all fit comfortably around the kitchen area to enjoy our daily brunch together. The location was very convenient. This house was a great fit for my family's 4-day getaway.

Colorful Fun House with lots of room, eclectic style and large kitchen
Enjoyed our stay in Austin and at the Garden St. House. Our kids loved the wagon full of toys and the little rocking chair. We had a big family meal in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed the playscape just down the street. The house is roomy and enjoyed the old style and the colorful vaulted walls. Quite creative and unique. Lindsay was wonderful too and we were able to have her company deliver us groceries before we even arrived. That was so nice. Thanks all!

Garden St. House Beautiful, Comfy. Great for our family.
Our family stayed at the Garden St. House in June and it was great! Quiet neighborhood, Big backyard with a BBQ grill, vaulted ceilings and large bedrooms, comfy beds. Parks and the pool was close and we even found the river just 2 blocks away. Was nice but unusual to have wood floors everywhere even in the kitchen. Its an older house with alot of charm. We'll be back.

Great central location
A group of us were travelling to Austin for a music festival (imagine that :) It was initially a bit confusing because the VRBO listing was transitioning from a property manager to Paprika herself. We did get that sorted out eventually and arrived to find a great updated house. The house was very comfortably furnished and very well located. And ...... as it turned out Paprika was a fan of the festival as well so we got to meet her too! She was a delight and a wonderful hostess. We would absolutely stay here again.

Wonderful place! Enjoyed location and house.
Was great to have the Renters Club Concierge service. We ended up having them buy groceries for us. And they gave us tourist tips which was also great. The house was very clean and felt like a 5 star hotel. Folded towels on the bed is a nice touch. Nice everything! And we walked almost everywhere, especially the Sola area. Fun! Thanks so much. James

Great location!
Enjoyed the quiet neighborhood, proximity to Ladybird Lake and walking trails, couple of great restaurants nearby by (try the Don Juan at Juan in a Million), and you can even try you skill on a trapeze a few blocks down Chavez. About a half hour walk to Rainy Street restaurants. House has a nice front porch and back patio and yard, both of which we used a lot. Quirky older home, which we enjoyed. Hard to open some of the windows, but enough opened for us to be comfortable in spring weather.

Cosy home from home
Everything from the booking process to arrival went really well. The place was lovely and cosy and had pretty much what you needed for a short stay. We rented the Garden St House for 2 weeks during SXSW and it was perfect. While we were far enough from the hustle and bustle of downtown to get rest and work undisturbed, it was only a 30 min walk to the convention centre. I would definitely stay again if in Austin. Nice home away from home
The house was perfect for our visit for the F1 Race. Well located to allow ease of getting around Austin. Easy drive (or bus ride if you want) to downtown and the SOCO areas. The house is spacious, comfortable and has all of the character you would expect in a house this age. Much larger inside than it appears when you first drive up.The neighborhood is nice and quite. There is a fairly new restaurant just over a block away and you are about a 10 minute walk to some great food truck BBQ and neighborhood pubs. Homeowner is great at getting back to you if you have any questions or concerns.

Great house, great location
I stayed here with 5 friends for a "guys' weekend" of biking and tubing in the Austin area. We all thought the house worked out great. In the morning, we could walk to "Juan In a Million," an excellent Mexican restaurant, for a fantastic breakfast. And when going into Austin, it was only a 5-minute drive, which we used Uber for. Super convenient, and the neighborhood was nice and quiet, too.

Meh...
Average house, with the potential to get your car hit if you park on the street. Yes, it happened on night 1 of 2 that we stayed at this home (no note left). A bit pricey for a home with older amenities. I would not stay here again.

Allergies
The house was very nice if you do not suffer from allergies. I would not rented if I knew they had a large dog that lived most of the time inside. Bought fabreeze which only mask the allergies. Two of us suffered and the rest of the family with us was okay. Had a little ant problem but otherwise okay. It was a great location.

Unique and Homey
We had a full house of people in town for RTX and were pleasantly surprised when we discovered the house was much bigger than the pictures made it seem. The high ceilings and odd slopes allow for plenty of space and make the house seem open even with eight of us staying there. The house was clean and very well kept. Creaky, but that's to be expected from a house this old. All of the amenities were as listed and clearly laid out in the instructions given by the owner. The neighborhood was also fairly quiet!

This house was perfect for our weekend in Austin. It was so convenient to downtown and roomy enough for all of us. This place is great for large groups and a very short drive to Austin nightlife. Everyone in our group was satisfied with the size of their rooms and common areas. If you are looking for a place to stay with a larger group you can even rent the upstairs apartment for an additional fee. We enjoyed our weekend and am sure we would consider renting the property again for our next trip!

Family wedding
The location of the property is great. Very close to 5th/6th street. The home itself is roomy, three bedroom. The furniture is comfy, the kitchen is well appointed. Everything was just easy. It was a great home away from home. We stayed there with 6 adults and 3 kids under the age of 5 and we didn't feel cramped at all. We used Uber to get around and everything was within a 10 min drive. The only reason this gets four stars instead of five is because the weekend that we were there the air-conditioning had a few hiccups. But Pete (owner) was great. He responded immediately when I notified him, and worked hard to get a repairman out that very day. He informed us that there is a new air-conditioning system installed and the setting simply needed to be tweaked. It should all be working great for the next stay! We would definitely stay there again and I do recommend this home to families. We felt safe and secure the entire time we were there. _Chris

Fantastic house
Really great house to stay in. It's spacious and super fun to just hang around. Everything from 6th to Rainey to the airport is all so close, but none of it feels like it's encroaching on you when you're trying to wind down. The owner was also incredibly nice and responsive. We got in with no problems and the house was everything we'd expected and more. Definitely recommend staying here.

Perfect location for being in the mix but not crowded in. Neighbors we're amazing and let is park the bike trailer in their yard. House is nice, old, but a homely feel. We had no issues with getting in and navigating the city. The river is very close by with easy access to walking and biking trails and parks. Very quiet neighborhood. The upstairs was rented out to another family. That did not create an issue. And they were very nice. 10 minutes to downtown and lots of places to eat nearby.

I bought the Garden St. House is 2001 and renovated it 3 times. This last time I added a New Orleans style front porch and remodeled both bathrooms and kitchen. Very nice! The house was built in 1912 and was quite the renovation. I vaulted the ceilings and opened up the left side of the house making arches and adding colorful walls. The original house.. but now polished with beautiful pine floors are throughout the house. I have 1 other house in Austin as well, and take great care and pride in keeping the houses clean, efficient and well maintained. I love this house and live here when I'm not traveling. Here is a great home away from home at the Garden Street House. Enjoy your stay!

Why they chose this property

This is a wonderful house because of the nearby parks, lake and its close access to downtown, 6th street and everything cool! It's a safe, quiet older neighborhood with wonderful neighbors and location. The House has been updated and transformed and is in top shape while maintaining the integrity of the original house with character, style, lots of room, tall ceilings an incredible quiet location, close to everything. Subdued colors complement the various rooms of the 1800 square foot house as well as high ceilings, all with a comfortable 'you are at home' feel. The kitchen is large great for gatherings. I just had to purchase this property, because of its big porch and good bones. I've made it into a very beautiful place that I share with you.

What makes this property unique

The big covered New Orleans style front porch reminds me of the slower simpler days of the early 1900's when neighbors used to spend alot of time outside drinking lemonade to stay cool in the hot Austin summers, waving to neighbors and enjoying the occasional rainstorm while sitting under the protected large porch. And yes... we have central AC/Heat to keep you cool in summer and warm in the winter. You can still enjoy the Texas rain and have a wonderful shelter on this amazing porch. The vaulted ceilings and comfortable 3 bedrooms and 2 baths that were recently renovated create a very homestyle feeling in this sturdy and amazing home. Thank you for visiting my Garden St. House. See you soon!
