About this property

Snow Hill Riverfront Retreat : Wildlife, Fishing, Kayaking, Nearby Beaches...

Surround yourself with nature's beauty when you stay at this 120 acre farm retreat. Located on the banks of the Pocomoke River, near quaint Snow Hill Maryland, this Cottage at Red Landing accommodates up to 7 people comfortably. Complete solitude overlooking the Pocomoke River, a perfect hideaway. Enjoy a morning sit on the deck watching spectacular sunrises over the river and evening sunsets across the farm fields. Feel far away while being right in the middle of it all!

The area
There is plenty to keep you busy if you want. Launch your own kayaks from the riverbank or rent canoes and kayaks in Snow Hill at the Pocomoke River Canoe Company. Catch a fish from the dock! Or book a cruise with Pocomoke River Cruises down the Pocomoke. Bike or hike, miles of the surrounding area are owned by the Nature Conservancy and Maryland State Parks.

You can stay and relax or for a short drive you can enjoy the attractions in the many nearby resort areas. Heading north from the Cottage, Ocean City, Maryland offers a 3 mile boardwalk featuring shops, amusement park rides, and bike rentals right on the beach. For something more quiet, Assateague Island National Seashore and its wild, undeveloped beach is only 28 miles away. Closer by, in Berlin, voted America's Coolest Small Town by Budget Travel, you can shop in boutique shops, visit a micro brewery and locally owned craft dining. Just south of the Cottage, Chincoteague Virginia is a small town gem with its access to beaches, shops, and wild ponies. All within a short drive, there are ample opportunities to enjoy live music, unique dining, quality shops, and the natural beauty of the Eastern Shore. While enjoying the quiet of a river retreat, you are still right in the middle of it all.

The Space
Outdoor Living: Adirondack chairs with outdoor gas fire pit sit 20 feet from the river’s edge. Enjoy views down the river along with the unique cypress trees and sweet bay magnolia that line the property. River breezes cool the air, even on hot summer days . Outdoor grill and dining table encourage outdoor living. Relax in the hammock or play ping pong and corn hole.

Indoor Living: Accommodations for 8 with linens provided, fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer,and Wifi with broadband fiber. Or unplug! The real attractions are the views! Guests have spotted deer, turtles, eagles, turkeys, fox, and beaver!

The farm has been in Regina’s family since 1948 when her grandfather purchased and farmed the land. This area was historically called Red Landing and an old ramp and concrete kiln that might have provided pitch to repair the bottom of boats trafficking the river remain on the property as evidence of a bygone era when steamboats regularly traveled the river .

For those looking for peace and quiet, communing with nature, this stand alone house offers a chance to stay in the midst of one of the most visited areas on the east coast. Where else on the east coast can you spend time in a place without any other views of neighbors? The Cottage sits on a point of land that affords views of the river and the adjoining state forest. The privacy is spectacular; especially since a major resort that expands to 300,000 people in the summer is only minutes away.

Wonderful Home

My wife and I were very impressed with this rental home. It was very clean and everything worked well. We loved that the host set out guides to local attractions and a book with some of the history of the home, farm, etc. And the views of the river were just amazing!

Beautiful Secluded Location

The location was really great and was conveniently located near the town of Snow Hill, which was also a very nice place to visit. The house was clean and the hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Also, there was a ping pong table in the garage, which was a hit with the kids!

Heaven on Earth

Regina & Jeff's place is a slice of heaven on earth. I'm hesitant to state that publicly because one of the property's greatest assets is that it's a hidden gem. There are virtually no other properties on the river nearby, so it felt like we had the whole river to ourselves. It was so easy to rent a canoe and paddleboard for the weekend and have it delivered to the house. There are somehow very few mosquitoes even though it's hot and humid outside. The property itself is well supplied and CLEAN. Very clean. My wife and I have stayed at many rentals across the country and this is one of our favorite. You will feel submerged in nature, with all the amenities to make it feel like glamping. Plus the hosts were very responsive whenever we had questions. The only downside is that there aren't a lot of restaurant options nearby, if you are into that, but the well-supplied kitchen & grill made up for that.

Peaceful early spring river getaway

We always enjoy spending time in nature on the Pocomoke River in the spring. The house was a great way to do that and watch the tides go up and down, etc.. We walked the Nature Conservancy Trails at the Nassawango Preserve, Pocomoke State Forest and Assateague National Seashore. The house is perfectly situated between the ocean and the Chesapeake. We enjoyed going to Snow Hill and Berlin. The host allowed us to charge our electric car so we didn’t have to waste time in town on that. She also let us stay late on our last day, so we had a leisurely morning before packing.

Cottage in a peaceful, quiet and relaxing setting

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Cottage on the Pokomoke River. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and very well equipped - even including a baby grand piano which we took advantage of. Our hosts were exceptionally welcoming and accomodating, and communicated promptly and fully with area weather information and answers to our questions and special requests. The large windows and patio doors provided beautiful views of the river and surrounding woods and farm. The cottage is close enough to the seashore for day trips and near the quaint town of Snow Hill. We highly recommend our hosts and a stay at the Cottage.

Tranquility Unmatched!!

The cottage was more than we hoped for. We needed a place to stay in Snow Hill for our daughters wedding weekend. We arrived at late in the evening from wedding to do’s, got unloaded and settled in for the night. Woke up the next morning to the best view ever! My only regret is not being able to enjoy everything the area has to offer. Regina was the best! Made sure we had what we needed and was always available if needed. I highly recommend a visit to the cottage for the weekend or longer.

Beautiful and Peaceful Getaway!

The Cottage was the perfect place to spend a weekend away! We our expecting our first child in the fall and wanted to do a relaxing weekend and this was the perfect place. Regina and Jeff are the most incredible hosts! Everything we could have needed was there, they were responsive, and provided so much insight for recommendations! We spent Saturday morning at the Public Landing, then relaxed at the house with some kayaking, fishing, and exploring. Our dog loved his mini-vacation and had a wonderful time adventuring on and off the property. Jeff and Regina even gave us a gift for the baby. Talk about above and beyond! We will definitely be back. Thank you!!

Perfect compromise

This was the perfect compromise for our family. The boys wanted to fish all day on the river and the girls wanted to sit on the beach all day. This house allowed us to have two vacations at once! It was affordable, spotless, had plenty of room for our family, and was set up with everything we could possibly need (like a hotel)! The setting was incredibly peaceful and amenities were all we could have asked for. It’s a short drive to the beach and we never had trouble finding parking or a spot on the beach, no matter what time we got out of the house. Everyone was super friendly and were easily accessible for questions/suggestions. We even had delicious pizza delivered to our little secluded spot. Make sure to take a nap on the hammock, it can’t be beat. 😎

Peaceful Home

We traveled to Snow Hill due to my daughter playing in the USSSA East Coast National's fastpitch softball games. The location was perfect given it was in between OC and Salisbury where the games were held. The property was very clean and had everything you would need. From the linens being provided to the shampoo's, soaps, dish liquid, etc., the owners when above an beyond to make it as comfortable as possible for those traveling. We brought our canoe and fished in the Pocomoke during downtime and enjoyed walking our dogs on the property. The owners were very nice and live right next door should there be any concerns. I definitely would recommend this location if you are looking for a peaceful place to spend your vacation.

Peaceful Retreat

Our hosts were very friendly and prompt with all communications. The home was very clean and provided additional essentials. The views of the Pocomoke river from the living room were quite the added bonus. The location is private and peaceful and about 30 miles from OC, MD and Chincoteague, VA. We can't wait for a future return to your lovely property. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

About the host

Hosted by Regina, Jeff, and Jessica Royer

Host profile image
Regina and Jeff are both retired educators. Jeff taught high school biology for 36 years. Regina was a professor in the education department of Salisbury University. Jeff stays busy maintaining the farm and two houses.. They keep fit boating and kayaking on the river as well as biking throughout the areas roadways. Much of the area's shoreline and forests are owned by the Nature Conservancy, a tribute to the area's scenic beauty.

Why they chose this property

Regina’s Mom and Dad built this house on the farm in 1981 and Regina and Jeff built a house and moved to the farm in 2015. Many family crab feasts and Christmas dinners have been held at the Cottage. Unfortunately, Mom died in 2013 and Dad died in December, 2019. Not yet ready to sell the house, they have decided to share this beautiful setting.

What makes this property unique

Where else on the east coast can you spend time in a place without any other views of neighbors? The Cottage sits on a point of land that affords views of the river and the adjoining state forest. The privacy is spectacular; especially since a major resort that expands to 300,000 people in the summer is only minutes away.
