About this property

Off-Grid Glass Barn with Mountain View, Wood Stove & Wi-fi

Enjoy this unique space 1700 ft above sea level with panoramic views of the Catskill Mountains just 2.5 hours from NYC in our fabulous Sun Barn! Ideal for couples. It is one of 4 unique glamping structures on our property. Plus free unlimited basic wi-fi internet and cozy cast iron wood burning stove.

The Sun Barn is a 20 foot x 12 foot structure made from mostly recycled and reclaimed materials. Dozens of windows make it feel like you're camping outside. And you're protected from rain, wind and any uninvited animals. .

There is nearby porta-potty for your private use only. (You do not share the porta-potty with any other guest)

NOTE: Bath Tub is now closed for the winter season. However, you may still take a hot shower using the camping shower bag.

Just outside the barn you'll find your Weber propane barbecue grill with solid wood traditional picnic table and benches. Use the ice filled cooler provided to store your burgers, hot dogs and other food items. We provide all the cooking utensils, silverware, paper plates, napkins, coffee mugs, drinking water and other kitchen essentials (salt, pepper, tissues, napkins, dish soap, etc.)

If you're here during a clear night, you will be dazzled by our star gazing and wonder in awe at how clearly you can see the Milky Way from our field.

Walk our secluded dirt road and visit the animals at the nearby farm (Lamas, sheep, goats, donkeys, ducks, chickens).

Sun Barn highlights:

- Luxury memory foam king sized bed, with pillows, comforter and sheets.

- Hot shower using the camping shower bag standing in the indoor bath tub. NOTE: Taking a bath after September 15 is not possible. Temperatures start to get too cold, so for guests comfort only the hot shower option stays available.

- Cast iron wood burning stove.

- Indoor Picnic table and 2 chairs.

- Outdoor Picnic table and 2 benches.

- Large sink with access to water storage tap.

- Propane Weber BBQ grill.

- Complimentary 3 gallon cooler, pre-filled with ice packets.

Notes: There is no electricity in the barn, but a few steps from the barn under the home owners deck is a place to charge your phones and use an electric water kettle to make hot water for you coffee or tea.

Persons over 6 feet tall may find this particular accommodation uncomfortable due to low ceiling beams. You may want to check out our other glamping site on the property called The Buck and Glamp Palace, Fox A-frame, The Tiny Stargazer and Cat in the Hat on Wheels (Dr. Seuss inspired).

Rules:

- Guests are asked to take all garbage with them.
- NO camp fires are allowed (we offer a propane barbecue)

Beautiful overnight getaway

A great overnight stay at the Sunbarn. We didn’t expect the site to be so close to the house, but it was still a wonderful experience and very relaxing.

About the host

Host profile image
Hi. We are Stephen and Elena. I'm originally from NYC and Elena was born in Ukraine. We have one young daughter. The property has been in our family since 1982 and we started hosting back in 2010.

We both have big experience traveling and meeting people from all over the world.

I lived in Europe for 12 years working as an English teacher and Elena, a professional natural perfume blender and essential oil aromatherapist, moved to America when we met back in 2013.

Elena has her own line of hand made cosmetic products called Elena Pellicano Essentials.

Why they chose this property

I truly believe the grounds of my property have a positive vibe that people can sense. It’s very welcoming, as through the trees are saying, ‘Hello, guest. Breathe in our fresh air, relax, and have a splendid time.’

What makes this property unique

Being at such a high elevation, 1700 feet to be exact, offers spectacular mountain views. Speaking of spectacular, all one has to do is look up. At the end of the day experience a Picasso color filled sunset sky of purples, pinks, oranges and turquoise swirls. After dark, look up again and gasp in awe at how clearly you'll see the stars and Milky Way. No light pollution here and this particular area offers the cleanest air compared to anywhere else in New York State and the entire North East as shown by website windy.com.
