About this property

Classic kiwi bach in native bush - No cleaning fee.

Private, peaceful bach surrounded by beautiful native bush. 2 mins drive to Onetangi beach, vineyards, and several restaurants.

Large deck, BBQ, hammock and swing. Two boogie boards, portacot, highchair, books, board games, and an in-tune steel string guitar.

10 mins walk to bus stop, a large Four Square supermarket, takeaways and bottle shop. 12 mins walk to white silicon sand of Onetangi beach with crystal clear water which is very safe for swimming.

The new Onetangi Four Square supermarket opened in Dec 2021 next to the Onetangi petrol station and bus stop . It stocks everything you could possible need, and is only 10 mins walk from the bach.

Activities within 5 mins drive from the bach include; Onetangi beach, golf course, tennis courts, horse riding, Stonyridge vineyard, Casita Miro restaurant, Heke Brewery and Distillery, Te Motu Restaurant, Wild on Waiheke) and three bars/restaurants on Onetangi beach (Three Seven Two, Charlie Farley's and Ki Maha).

Our traditional kiwi bach ideal for romantic couples or small families wanting to experience something special in native bush and uniquely Waiheke, while being close enough to all the Island has to offer. We have two heat pumps which make the bach cozy and warm in winter, but cool in the summer.

Amazing birdlife surrounds the bach including; tui, fantails, kaka, parrots, native wood pigeons, and morepork (native owls) calling at night. Glow worms can be seen at night 2 minutes walk up the road (turn left out of the drive).

The bedroom is upstairs on a mezzanine floor with a double and single bed. The stairs to the bedroom are quite steep. There is a handrail on the stairs, but our bach may not suit elderly or people with mobility difficulties.

A small stream runs through the property, with a few fish in it. Please keep an eye on small children and NO fishing please!

The Onetangi bus from the Ferry takes you to within 10 mins walk of the bach. Get off at the Onetangi petrol station (approx 20 minutes ride from the Matiatia ferry terminal.

Nikau cottage
Lovely secluded bush location with lots of palms and birds. Had a cold shower on first day but managed a warm one on day two. Interested in the well chosen local artwork.

Kiva mökki metsän keskellä
Erikoinen paikka sademetsän sisällä ilman naapureita. Kaikki fasiliteetit kohdallaan ja kuten luvattu. Mökki aika vanha, mutta kelvollinen. Sänky mukava. Pyörät, jotka tosin vanhat plussaa. Jos kunto riittää niillä kokee paljon. Myös ruoan laitto, grillaus ja pyykinpesu toimi. Erittäin erikoinen kokemus, suosittelen.

Comfy and fun
We really enjoyed our stay. The bach is fun, in a lovely setting amongst amazing old nikau, ferns and forest trees. Had a real homely feel with heaps of fun and interesting art inside and out. The bay window seat in the lounge area was a favourite. I found the bed firm and comfortable (futon style). The check in was easy and communication with John was great. We had a four wheel drive vehicle with us, so were able to access the driveway.

Great Getaway
We stayed in this cottage 10years ago when we got married. Nothing much changed since but we loved the isolation. Being away from the noisy Auckland was needed. Would definitely try come back if it is still available in a few years

An Interesting Spot
My partner and I visited for Valentine’s weekend and enjoyed the property for 2x nights. The place itself has everything you need - fully equipped kitchen, one bed in the mezzanine, outdoor space and a great bathroom. There is no wifi however, and little service. While we enjoyed our stay, it did feel somewhat eerie, which could be attributed to the weather or the complete seclusion. The best way we could put it, once we pondered on it on the ferry ride home, was that there was a slightly weird energy there, and we wondered what the history of the place was…Still, if you’re generally unaffected by these things, it has everything you need and is well located for island tours on either side.

A Perfect getaway
We stayed for 2 nights and within that time we walked the local area and toned the legs, we ate at Ki Mata - Onetangi (divine) & Nomads Oneroa (delicious) and the views at both venues was a million dollars!, we relaxed, we drank delicious coffee at home courteous of our hosts, we shopped at lovely very local family owned Four Square, we enjoyed being within mother nature right outside the door and we loved all of it and look forward to doing it again.

Rustic and Peaceful.
Probably more suited to younger guests, we are 75 & 79,but we coped OK. the setting is very nice and we made friends with the resident Kereru's. We felt it has probably been a much loved family holiday place in the past but maybe the family have grown and moved. All and all we enjoyed our stay, the weather could have been kinder, only one swim, but that is not your fault.

Our first trip to Waiheke was an enjoyable one
Rustic and reminded me of a classic bach from my childhood. Well setup. No wifi, no television (but that is not a bad thing). Great communication with the host and we really appreciated the flexibility with check-in and check-out. It was nice to see kereru pigeons from the windows. A good experience overall.

Gorgeous, curated, eclectic treehouse with everything you might need. If driving beware of google maps directions (wrong). Helpful info, excellent location (need 4 wheel dve to access driveway). Booking info spot on. Loved this delightful space and unreservedly recommend.

Waiheke bach mixed review
The location was good and the bach interesting BUT the access was steep and slippery and the stairs in the house were very steep. Hardly any room round the bed so unsuitable for older people or those who need to get up in the night. Bit gloomy in the trees.

Magical
Arrived at night and awoke to a chorus of tuis and a tranquil bush setting, I was quite magical. The Bach was superbly set up and located. A proper Bach with amazing creative and funky interior design, great artwork and presentation. Someone is super talented and has a great eye for functionality coupled with creative flare in equal measures. It was a pleasure staying at this Bach. Would and and am planning to stay here again.
