Great Christmas stay with our dogs

Great spot, with lovely views and surrounds. Lots of garden/beach games, which was good for a Christmas/summer stay. The house was perfect for us and our two dogs - photos don’t do it justice! Scenic drive to Christchurch - if you fancy it too. We just had to make sure we were well equipped with water etc but that was explained and we managed to fill bottles up in Diamond Harbour. Mostly quiet, and peaceful although we had a bit of noise late on the Friday evening/early morning - to be expected at this time of yeah perhaps! All in all a great place :)

Purau Bay Air B&B

Our party of 4 retired women attending a Teddington Easter weekend event enjoyed staying at a comfortable, three-bedroom house with plenty of beds and kitchen/dining room/lounge facilities for four guests. The view across the harbour to Lyttelton was a real plus. Generous outdoor furniture offered aided our options to eat and read outdoors during sunny weather.

Relaxing holiday spot within a short drive of Christchurch

Moananui is a special holiday spot. Within 3/4-hour drive of Christchurch you can feel a world away. The house is very well presented with all that you need for a short or longer stay and plenty of room to find a quiet spot to read a book or have a quiet snooze. The fully fenced section, immediately across the road from the beach is a real asset and meant a relaxed stay with our furry friend. Diamond Harbour is a short drive away if you need supplies from the excellent 4 Square supermarket or choose to avoid cooking and have fish and chips for tea from Salt - they were delicious. We highly recommend this holiday home and hope to return soon.

Lovely getaway

My husband and I and our dogs stayed for 3 nights and it was a lovely home and securely fenced for peace of mind. My only small point of improvement would be earlier communication about a bond being required versus an automated message at 1.30am the day of booking. That said, the refund process we straight-forward on return and the host was friendly and prompt with communication around it. High tide swimming was lovely, the views were idyllic, it's easy to find and the perfect spot if you need to disconnect and relax for a few days. Would definitely recommend this host and property to others and really appreciate the stay

New Year's Stay with Partner & Friends

Myself, my partner and some of our friends stayed here over the New Year's period. We enjoyed our stay here as the property was across from the beach, there was a BBQ, and plenty of areas to sit and relax. The property has lots of lawn/garden space for games e.g frisbee. It was also relatively clean on arrival but there were some cobwebs on the ceiling upstairs, although I can imagine they would be hard to get. Also, initially when I had booked, I had booked to stay on different days and had already paid for our stay there with those dates. Later on, I was contacted that we had been double booked with another group..which was disappointing to hear (esp since we'd paid and confirmed it with our group). However, we did still have a really good time at the Bach and managed to enjoy ourselves. We loved how close it was to the beach and we also had good fish n chips nearby. Thanks for letting us stay.

This property was double booked

Didnt end up staying as owner had privately outside of bookabach extended previous occupiers stay to overlap with ours he didnt inform us till 30 mins prior to us taking up the property and we had already arrived. He arranged other cabin accomodation without our permission in a local campground that couldnt take our dog and suggested we travel back home to leave our dog elsewhere or allow him to find a neighbour near the property to take our dog . very un satisfactory as we chose his property because it allowed dogs. He now refuses to refund our money. Also requires you to bring everything with you including water toilet paper sheets towels everything. You dont discover all this including him wanting a further bond until after your no refund date has expired. Stay away from this property

Mixed emotions

The communication with the owner was excellent, and started a few weeks out. Responsive and informative about the area. He met us also at a recommended grocery store with a welcome gift; nice touch. Upon arrival at the property the immediate impression was of a rustic property with first impression kind of unkempt. Lots of blankets on furniture which looked kind of old and maybe needed a good dry cleaning. Kitchen was clean. As a non Kiwi, we had to pay for sheets/towels/kitchen towels. I didn't realize we're also responsible for soaps of all kinds, toilet and kitchen paper. In fairness it was explained in the booklet with one of his emails which I DIDN'T read closely enough. This an important consideration if you're flying in from somewhere. We couldn't immediately figure out which sheets were clean as there were various already on the beds. seems like you also need to make your own bed. water conservation stressed before and during the stay. Fair enough although buckets in the showers were at first a bit intimidating. And then the home closing work assignments about vacuuming etc. was a bit over the top. I think maybe cleanliness impression is up to performance of the previous guest. So, awesome location! Super communicative and friendly owner. Comfortable beds and kudos for the environmental responsibility.

short stays reccomend

The home is situated in a lovely bay. the home is big enough to accommodate 6 people. We choose this home as it allows dogs, is close enough to chch for us to drive into work, and we can kayak and paddle board on the bay. The home was surface cleaned when we arrived. I deep cleaned when we left. The bunk beds are not comfy, the mattresses are thin and old, the bunks are very wobbly and squeak when ever someone moves, the single bed in that room is comfy. the master room bed is very comfy. the upstairs double bed is comfy enough. the home is pretty well fenced enough to keep a large dog in, we did have too block up part of the fence when the neighbors arrived with small dogs who could get through. the kitchen is equipped well. The lack of water caught us off guard, having to not flush if its yellow, reminded us of EQ times. No washing machine was a pain as we stayed for such a long time. The owner did call me multiple times while we were there but as I had no reception I didnt realize until the end of our stay and listened to his long voicemails then recieved long texts as he had accidentally double booked the home for just one night. I felt very sorry for the couple who had booked from the 2nd as we weren't out until the 3rd. They were a lovely couple and told the owner they would like a refund, the owner wasnt calm or reasonable. We stayed until the 3rd, the owner did ask us to vacate on the 2nd then asked us to vacate at 10am on the 3rd but the vacate time is 12, I politely declined as we had plans and to pack and clean. the home may sleep 6 but I had to pay an extra $35 per night for the 6th person. The owner will call and text alot but this didnt bother me to much until he randomly walked in through the gate on our second to last day at the home. I would only book your stay through book a Bach. I booked the 1st week through book a Bach then emailed saying I wanted a 2nd week, I ended up emailing the owner, he told me it was cheaper to go through him. he made the process very confusing as he would call often and ask if I still wanted the 2nd week, I would say email me the invoice. I never received the invoice just an email in mid December right before our stay, with all these figures, it was very frustrating especially when the price went up. I will not be staying there again. Overall this home is adequate for short stays.

First holiday ever with our dog

This was a great place to test out if holiday-ing with our dog would be possible. Secured property to keep Luna safe and the beach across the road where she could have her first taste of salt water (not appreciated) 😄. The bach had all we needed and was easy to keep warm during a cold weekend. Diamond Harbour is close-by and has a supermarket, restaurant and take-away so you don't need to go too far to stock up.
