West Coast Retreat - stunning sunsets meets river - Pet friendly

Hidden west coast treasure only 1:15 hr from Auckland, NZ. Come and discover Port Waikato and chill out with the sound of waves breaking and spectacular sunsets. This comfortable bach is an ideal retreat for couples or families and pets to unwind. Fully fenced with a big front lawn for a round of cricket! Safe for kids and pets (there is no need to leave your beloved 4 legged furry friends behind). 4 Bedrooms in the main house and a separate sleep out (sleeps 5) with its ownTV/ DVD is great for the kids/teenagers! or xtras - we even have a bed for your doggy. We have added a 9 x 5 meter pergola at the front which offers a very large outdoor extended living area - and a 3.25 meter table - superb for alfresco entertaining and large family gatherings. We are a five minute walk to the beach and takeaway/cafe. Idyllic black sand beach, riverside and sand dune walks (best child or dog playground around ever). Great spot for fishing, whitebaiting, surfing and a patrolled beach for swimming - or just come, kick back and relax! or let the wonderful west coast clear away the cobwebs or stress. Fully equipped kitchen with 90cm stainless oven and gas hob / double door refrigerator / dishwasher / microwave. Wood burning fireplace for cosy winter stays we supply the wood! - treat yourself with a wild west coast beach walk and let the wind blow away your stress.... pure magic!
Special conditions:
2 night minimum stay - Public holiday weekends and school holidays have a minimum of 3 nights stay. Xmas / New Year period is a minimum of 5 nights stay. Choose to bring own top/bottom sheets, pillowcases and towels OR a FULL bed linen and towels can be supplied at an additional cost of $25 per person. Smoking outside only and pets are very welcome but are not permitted on furniture. Rate is for 6 occupants, extras are $25 per night (maximum of 8). Cleaning fee of $150 per stay is additional / BBQ must be left as found!

It was an absolute joy staying here for 3 days, had all the creature comforts of home as well as being a stone throw away from Sunset beach 🏖 thanks once again for the awesome experience, definitely recommend this property to anyone, and will be looking to stay again on our next family venture.

Wonderful property. It was still very cold so most nights we had a fire. Sue gave us unlimited access to firewood and it was lovely and cosy. Room enough for us and our 4 grandchildren to stay.

Well equipped holiday stay
Everything you may need in a holiday home. The kitchen and appliances were great. We found it difficult to decide where to cook, using the massive gas hob or outside using the bbq. Loved the fire place and the outside porch.

Auckland Anniversary 2023 with a Difference...this will go down as one to remember!
We had a great time despite the flooding, and storms and then being told that we are unable to leave the area due to slips, road closures - we had no choice, but to stay put! We were so thankful that we were staying at this accommodation as it was fully equipped with what we needed. We had to cope with power cuts/no wifi connections but we managed and in the end, enjoyed the home, the surroundings and especially Sunset Beach walk - on a perfect sunny weekend, this would be a venue I would suggest to go too. Thank you Sue for your accommodation, it was great.

It was a quirky place and we liked that. Neighbours a bit noisy on the Saturday unfortunately. Probably felt a bit overpriced for the quality but spacious for sure.

This house is really well set up for a group. A real bonus was being able to bring my sisters dog! Especially loved the huge outdoor table. We had great weather so it was used for every meal. Plenty of towels and fresh flowers were nice touches.

It's a great bach; the capacity is huge and the rooms each have a nice idiosyncrasy. The outside dining area and new BBQ lead to a fantastic dining experience. The kitchen is also really good; frankly when you visit a bach you seldom find enough tools, but here the cutlery, crockery and utensils are in legion! The beach is a short walk away, although with kids and boogie boards we drove. It was idyllic. Mustn't be boring; the weekend was essentially flawless. Must end with many exclamation mar

Thanks a lot for letting us use your bach Sue. We loved the bach, the sleepout, and the great outdoor seating area and the garden. We really enjoyed our weekend away, we went for lots of walks on the beach and the children, grandparents and dogs all loved it! A great get-away!

absolutely loved the property and the location. Every day we would do at least 2 beach/dune walks and got blown and rained on and exhilarated. Absolute heaven for us and our dogs. Big point of difference that dogs are welcomed. We will be telling all our friends. Sue was amazing. Thank you

I loved w.e. breaks away - travel in general. I have travelled extensively in my past and love to welcome people from NZ wide to world wide! My place is laid out for having family and friends around the outside table and celebrating life. I love my dogs and this is a great place for your furry family..... and a great big outdoors for long lingering walks around the river or beach. I am one of not many dog friendly places.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with Port Waikato after my niece and her husband moved there. I didn't even know it existed until then. So 15years ago I bought my lovely bach so I could enjoy 1.15 min drives for a w.e. break from Auckland. It is a wee gem.... a wonderful arty and creative community. You really feel like you are away from the world as it doesn't have many shops!! (one very cool general store) but it does have a small beach carpark cafe for your COFFEE FIX! and a take away truck at the local camp ground.

dog friendly bach/off leash beach /great sand dunes for kids to romp down /surfers and boogie boarders

Nikau Cave about 35 min drive.... very cool - google it if you are into caves.
