Montrose Home and Garden is a large private holiday home with loads of outdoor lawn and growing areas. The tennis court is a delight for all ages with a great surface for children on wheels (adults can watch from the deck) or bigger kids tennis tournaments.
The house sits between both Warrington Beach (white sand and generally safe swimming) and Blueskin Bay, a gorgeous tidal inlet with cockles and small crabs that live under rocks.
The bottom gate opens onto the domain where there is a lovely children's park. In summer and some holidays a domain shop offers ice blocks, coffee and surf school with wetsuits for hire.
One minute walk out the gate is the beach...2 minutes walk to the right is Blueskin Bay. The house has direct views over both the beach and the bay. Its the perfect setting for you to unwind, relax, explore and enjoy your escape.
The house was built in 1927, it was sensitively remodelled and extended in the late 1970's. Kauri timber used in its interior, was salvaged and floated over from the decommissioned military barracks once located at Taiaroa Head, dating from 1880.
The main lounge opens onto a completely enclosed deck with a north facing sunny aspect and immediate views of the tenniscourt. The lounge sports a big fireplace/ wetback and also a newly installed heatpump. There is a tv with freeview and a dvd library (some kids) and has an hdmi chord to connect a laptop. A small private conservatory adjoins the lounge and deck. Great for running operations or a semi private work spot privacy enabled with a curtain divide.
Through the door is the spacious open plan kitchen and dining area. It is appointed with a servery and a pantry that has necessary basics. The area has a lovely, well lit relaxed feel with large windows giving private garden views.
With just a 1 minute walk to the beach and a 15 minute drive to Dunedin City its great for groups wishing to attend events at the Forsyth Barr Stadium or visiting the City. The Orokanui Eco sanctuary is close for day activities (approximately 10km). This beautiful established sanctuary is now home to many native species including lizards, flora, Kiwi, Kaka, Takahe etc and has many walks and activities.
The house is spacious, private and peaceful, has a wonderful historical character with many time period furnishings and curios. The house has large areas and varied spaces for the whole family to relax and enjoy. Warrington is a relatively small community with friendly people and a quaint special appeal.
The house is ready for you to just walk in and start your vacation. It is clean and equipped with wood for colder nights. Beds and bedding are excellent quality, made up with fresh linen and have electric blankets.
