The shearing cottage is located on Sawdon Station a high country sheep station, 5 minutes drive to Lake Tekapo, and 20 minutes drive to Fairlie.
The 'shearing quarters' is set up for the people who shear our merino sheep in September. We are opening again Mid September 2024, after a number of years closed with a permanent tenants, and contractors.
This accommodation is VERY basic, with a large kitchen, heat pump, wood fire, four bedrooms. It has older beds, and furniture, one very basis shower room, and a limited laundry/bathroom area. Its accommodation for the hardy Kiwi to stay in, possibly not somewhere for overseas visitors.
Excellent location for families, who would like to experience a farm, huge area around the house, for cricket, mountain biking, walking, flying kites...... Great location to escape from the stress of life. We have a maximum of 6 adults for this cottage.
Full tea, coffee and sugar supplied, but no milk. Just need to bring your clothing, and food.
Close to Lake Tekapo, with its excellent hot pools, the night sky, the lake for swimming, boat cruising, and fishing. Walking to the top of Mt John, and the best Japanese restaurant in the country!
Cottage gets all day sun, is surrounded by the spectacular southern alps and the Mackenzie Basin. By climbing the small hill behind the cottage you can see for miles, 360 degrees - absolutely beautiful on a crystal clear day.
Please read all our excellent reviews, ok back in 2020, but heaps has happened since then!
Please ensure you advise the numbers of guests staying, so I can give the correct price per night.
Smoking outside only.
No dogs allowed.
No hunting on the property. We employ a pest controller.
The cottage is located on a working high country farm so caution should be taken as there are many hazards. Especially young children, with a creek and busy farm track nearby.
