The bach is nestled among mature totara trees and is home to many native birds. It has a lovely open garden and an extensive view across the estuary which will fill up during spring high tides. It is only a 30 second walk across the other side of the road to a very safe swimming beach.
There are two kayaks to use and the garden and estuary are interesting safe places for children to play while parents sit and relax on the deck.
The living area is open and cosy with an efficient wood burner to keep the house warm in the winter months. There are two good sized bedrooms that look across the estuary and are both light and well insulated; the larger bedroom has double glazing. A new bathroom has been recently added to the bach and the living room extended.
It is a great place to escape and relax and offers long beach walks where you can observe the many wading birds, collect shellfish or just beach fossick. There are many beautiful natural locations nearby to visit by car including Wharariki beach which is only a 20 minute drive. Whatever you choose to do you will come home feeling better for taking the time to stay here. Special conditions: The house is very suitable for couples or a small family. The deck is less than a meter high and has not got railings, therefore would not be suitable for a toddler or baby without supervision.
During the peak summer season a minimum booking for 2 nights is required.
Extras: Cleaning (Optional, NZ$80.00 per stay); Linen (Optional, NZ$20.00 per bed);

This is a great little batch in a really quiet but accessible location. It has all amenities and a kiwi charm about it. Really good bathroom/laundry, comfortable huge main bed, amazing log burner and a good sized kitchen. It is right on the the inlet with views over the Bush clad hills. And being a stones throw from the beach make this place the perfect golden bay get away
Excellent location which was peaceful and lovely. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to cook many of our meals.Great walking beach. Reasonably priced and responsive owner of the property.
We always wanted to check out Tōtara Avenue and finally it happened :) Guando is a fantastic little bach, carefully styled and very well equipped. Comfortable and warm. Unfortunately weather was very average during our stay so we haven’t used kayaks on the inlet
We enjoyed another wonderful stay. The bach was perfect. Loved the native birds, tūīs, wood pigeons, fantails in the avenue and garden. A very special place. Thank you
My family and I really enjoy Gunado, the house is in a beautiful setting and basks in the afternoon sun. The house has everything you need and Jennifer is a great host, communicating with her was very easy. We’d love to come back again, it really is a magic spot!
Beautiful, quiet spot in Golden Bay. Photos don't do this place justice. Really cute and comfortable cottage. Hours of fun to be had exploring the estuary on the doorstep and only a minute walk to the beach. Easy access to Farewell spit, Wharariki beach, Collingwood and Takaka. Loved our stay.
A firm family favourite - we love staying at Gunado for the cozy space, endless opportunities to play in the estuary, peacefulness and as a great base for adventures in the area. Thanks again Jennifer, we are already looking forward to our next visit!
A very well setup cosy place with some well thought out renovations. We loved the location and view across the inlet to the ranges and the birdsong when we woke up in the morning. The setting is amazing, on a spit tucked in amongst the Totara.
We had a lovely and peaceful time, watching the tide go in and out, revisiting Wharariki and Farewell Spit. Plenty of rain but it was still great to be there. The bach and location were exactly as described. (We appreciated the comfortable bed and well-equipped kitchen!)
This is the third time we have stayed. We find the position very relaxing with lots of bird life and walks along the beach. The size of the Bach is ideal for us and is very well equipped.
We had the best relaxation time here!
We had an adventure in the Kajaks, and most of all
Wonderful sleeps in
good beds, kitchen well equipped and clean, practical environments.
Best wishes

The property has everything you need. Books, DVD's and firewood were thoughtfully provided for those rainy days, and canoes for beach weather. A very peaceful setting amongst the trees so easy to destress.
A wonderful bach in a beautiful location. Fantastic bird life, great views over the estuary and easy access to the beach for exploring. Thank you for a lovely stay
Great spot for exploring Golden Bay, or just to stay put
This was our third stay at Gunado, it's a great spot for a break. Ideally located for visiting places like Wharariki, Milnethorpe Bush, or Westhaven Inlet, but equally easy to just sit on the deck and watch the tide come in and out
So impressed with this gorgeous bach, the setting is beautiful and easy access to so many areas to explore in the Bay. Hope to return.

I am a secondary school teacher and live in Nelson with my partner and son when he is not at Uni.
Why they chose this property
I have always loved Golden Bay and have stayed at Totara Avenue for 25 years. I am a keen tramper and lover of nature. This part of Golden Bay particularly appealed because of the birds, totara trees and ease of access to the sea and the mountains. I also have friends who have a Bach in the avenue and find it a very friendly, social place and a great getaway from Nelson.
What makes this property unique
A perfect stepping stone to beautiful and iconic New Zealand attractions such as Wharariki beach and Farewell Spit.
