About this property

Manu Waiata - Otautu Bay, Lake Rotoehu

Enjoy the quiet location of this Otautu Bay holiday home. Approx 30 minutes (38 Km) from the outskirts of Rotorua and 45 mins from Whakatane. Relax and enjoy the tranquillity at the house or launch the boat on to the lake and enjoy the trout fishing or water sports. The house has everything you could need for that getaway break. Timber features throughout the house. Large covered deck area with a huge table to make the most of the outdoor dining. We have two kayaks and a paddle board available for use, with a selection of life jackets also available. There is a pontoon on the lake for swimming. The back section is fully fenced so suitable for younger children & dogs. Wake up to the morning birdsong. The quietness of this location is amazing. Firewood provided for those winter nights.

Special conditions:
*Please note there is no internet/wifi/cellphone coverage at the bach and only limited coverage on the lake side* There is, however, a landline available for local calls. The bach does not have a full size oven or hob. We have a benchtop oven (which is big enough to roast a chicken), a microwave and a two hob hotplate which sits on the bench. The BBQ has a hood and can also be used for roasting.
We are unable to accept bookings less than 5 days before date of stay.

Our lake can be prone to algal blooms during the summer months. You can check on lawa.org.nz. Search for Otautu Bay

The house is South Facing and does not get much sun in the winter. It can have a tendancy to feel damp in the winter until the fireplace gets roaring.

NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets)

Awesome place to stay!

Great little bach, had everything we needed. We all enjoyed a weekend of kayaking the lake and relaxing. Comfy beds, cozy fire (got a bit hot lighting the fire in March but the boys loved it), cool kitchen, quiet and peaceful. The only complaint is we never found the darts for the dart board. Thanks Chris, we'll definitely be back.

This property is nestled in an idealic Kiwiana spot with NO access to the internet (which is a total bonus)!.. lovely spot..would have loved to stay longer.. so laid back.

Peaceful spot

We loved our time here! Fenced section for dog not as big as we had thought but didn’t hugely matter because we got out for so many walks and spent time at the beautiful lakeside. Would happily stay again!

Piece of paradise

Great place facilities as described great we could take our fur baby as well, we lived at the outdoor table huge and the tui's came in close to feed best time we unwound and detoxed with no wifi or phone coverage it was so quiet and fantastic will be back.

Perfect getaway

We had the most relaxing holiday in a long time, getting unplugged from devices and enjoying time outside in the beautiful area. A great grill and a large, covered deck area made cooking and eating outside a pleasure. But inside also has comfortable seating, a fully stocked kitchen and comfortable beds. Located in a friendly, quiet neighborhood.

A real bach for a change everything you would need super practical and a very fair price which keeps it achievable for real families..Bush birds warm and cosy lake 200 metres away what more could you want. We will be back thank you Chris

Home away form home

Beautiful and private spot that backs onto native bush - So tranquill and peaceful. We arrived to a very clean, warm and welcoming holiday bach. The kayaks and paddle board were awesome and our children loved the animals next door. I have to say, the beds were some of the most comfortable I have slept on and we've stayed in baches across both this country and Australia. Such a fab family bach!

Perfect place for a hideaway - especially family or group

As a group of friends from around NZ we have been heading to the hot pools at Rotoehu for several years and using BookaBach to find a suitable cottage. Manu Waiata is way best for us - reasonably priced, 3 bedrooms with comfortable beds, bunks & duvets, blankets etc, indoor fire + wood, a short stroll to the lake and plenty of bush close for more serious walks ... we eat, we walk, we soak, we laugh, we talk, we chat with magpie from next door .... Great host! Thank you Chris!

Our New Secret Getaway!

Amazing little Cottage that catered to well to all needs! even with short notice! Owner is very lovely and the use of paddle board and kayaks at the lake was a bonus!! SUCH A SWEET LITTLE PIECE OF PARADISE!

Lakeside Gem

*Nearby lake - hop, skip and a jump away. *Facilities - ample sleeping space. Kitchen well equipped. Fireplace a delight. Lots of outdoor space and parking. *Local amenities limited but with careful planning, did not cause any issues. *Local Waitangi Soda hot springs nearby. A lovely treat after a long day of travelling. *Great value for money...certainly the best I could find in the area. *Communication and information provided by Chris (owner) was perfect. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights. Kia mihi.

Reconnecting with the past

Chose to stay that this lovely bach because of its location. Lake Rotoehu is where I spent most family holidays growing up 30 - 40 years ago. A private lake with little visitor pressure, coming back here again with my family remided me of all the reasons I have such fond memories fo the place. The bird life, forest lined lake shores, 6 boats on the lake on a busy day, friendly locals mixing happily with visitors in the two small lakeside settlements, good fishing, natural hot springs, and Rotorua and all it has to offer just 35 minutes away. The bach at Otautu Bay has everything you need for a great visit and is 1 minute from the lake edge. We stayed with another family and the deck was great for dining and cooking in the evening. On this visit my kids each caught their first trout and the sun shone for all three days. It truly was idyllic. Thanks Chris for sharing your property.

Great for us but needs a good spring clean

Fine for us for a couple of nights but disappointing to have to say it was below the par for cleanliness. The shower , toilet and bathroom weren't cleaned. Floor wasn't swept and microwave was filthy. (didn't clean microwave- left it as we found it) Real shame it wasn't checked prior to our visit. Understand that this is an old bach and didn't expect 5 * but wanted to relax instead of cleaning up before we could enjoy! We did have a great couple of nights thank you Chris and the bed was very comfortable and the shower was a good pressure. Didn't realise the neigbours were so close- photos a bit deceiving. The Hongi Falls track was well worth the walk and weather was superb. Be great to visit in the summer.
