Most magical spot on the north coast of the Kaipara Harbour. Batley is secluded and peaceful. It offers walks, safe swimming, fishing and views. Great for couples, solos, families (roll out bed, space for a tent). Kitchen facilities and hot-water shower. Fish from the beach or boat - ramp nearby and space to park your boat or kayak - use our double kayak.
Along with historic Batley House - and us - nearby, you'll be on a peninsula on a 1000-acre sheep and beef farm in NORTHLAND region. Less than two hours from Auckland and 20 mins from Maungaturoto.
We believe our house is the oldest on the harbour. You'll be protected from the prevailing wind and the cabin includes everything for your stay - kitchen equipment, fridge, cooking facilities, gas-heated shower. NOTE: It's glamping with a kiwi bach vibe and use of the nearby (50m - pale green building in the pix - meticulous public toilet.
Fish off the beach or nearby point and there's a boat launching ramp. The harbour's a snapper hatchery - we rarely come home without a feed.
Negotiable: tent for extra guests.
The area is rich with history - the house, built in stages from 1866, was a store, post office and boarding house. There were fish factories and a flour mill here. You can walk upriver to a marae and historic church. Rae's book, 'Love at the End of the Road' (a copy's in the cabin) tells the area's story. You may have seen us on Country Calendar.
AND..... you need to know . . . .
Cellphone coverage is patchy. Wifi - you may need to come up to the house.
Linen provided.
Separate shower with gas hot water.
TOILETS: Spotlessly clean public toilets nearby - 50m (think glamping).
