About this property

Height of Dunedin Farmstay - Free breakfast

Relax in the warmth of a newly renovated 1-bedroom cottage in the misty clouds and experience the unique and homely semi-rural lifestyle nestled below awesome pine trees with a well-appointed courtyard garden to enjoy the rural outlook. In a private setting on a 6-acre farm the clean, comfortable and friendly hospitality of Height of Dunedin suits a couple or up to 5 guests.

Height of Dunedin boasts a sunny, 44 square metre detached guesthouse in a lovely peaceful and tranquil hideaway. Perfect for honeymooners or a small family yet only 6 minutes away is Roslyn with an award-winning restaurant, cafes, day spa, pharmacy, winebar, artisan shops and supermarket. All this at 350 metres above sea level guarantees some snow falls during winter and beautiful picturesque surroundings.

The family friendly cabin features a spacious living/ dining or second sleeping area with king-single bed. A separate bedroom has a comfortable queen bed along with a pillow menu and extra blankets. Portacot or quality innerspring wool-top toddler mattress (70x130cm) can be added. There is an additional single bed and brand-new double-size memory foam sofa-bed that can be made for you in the lounge. The bathroom, accessed through the bedroom, has an Airstream shower for a refreshing rain-like escape. Packed with complimentary toiletries and extra towels.

Our Local Flavours breakfast hamper is available for your first couple of nights if required. This highlights Harraways flavoured oat sachet with your choice of milk, muesli bar, toast with Otago honey or homemade jam/marmalade, fresh seasonal fruit and free-range eggs from our hens.

A selection of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and milk are complementary. There is a small kitchenette suitable for heating up food with a microwave and the sun-drenched secluded patio has barbeque facilities. We encourage guests to view our extensive recommendations that list popular dine-ins to convenient takeaways.

In continuing with sourcing and celebrating local ingredients for breakfast Height of Dunedin is double-glazed throughout and in its sustainability journey has capitalised solar power energy. Being environmentally efficient towels are encouraged to be reused and bed linens are serviced weekly.

You can hand-feed pet animals on a self-guided wander. Awaken to the morning chorus of abundant birdlife: tuis, singing bellbirds, plump wood pigeons, warbling magpies, paradise ducks, hunting hawks, owls and NZ’s rare rosella parrots.

A direct 10 minutes drive to The Octagon CBD yet Height of Dunedin captures a retreat of feeling miles away. Especially close to the neighbouring forest walking tracks and the Flagstaff-Pineapple Walk with its stunning views of Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula from the western hill skyline.

Absolute gem
The part of Wingatui I grew upnin has been consumed by property developers now, but Height of Dunedin gave me the dawn chorus of birds and Little Owls calling at night that I remember from childhood. The visitor friendly farm animals were fun, especially the goats ... so much personality. Ngaire made us welcome with some lovely personalised touches, accomodated extra family staying over and the place was warm and cosy in some pretty wild weather. Loved our stay there. Thank you so much.

Beautifully Appointed Home, limited kitchen
The owner is on site, so was very responsive to needs. Everything needed was provided, and the owner left lots of information about things to see and do in the area and places to eat. The mini bar concept in a vrbo was a little confusing to us, so we did not use any of the food items except hot beverages (which seemed to be a standard offering in NZ vrbos). The bedroom and bathroom were both fantastic but, if you're more than a couple, be aware that the extra bed is at one end of the common area and the bathroom is accessed through the bedroom door.

Farm stay review
My sister and I immensely enjoyed our stay. We found our accommodation very clean, warm and tidy with comfortable beds, little road noise, no annoying street lights and woke to beautiful bird song in the morning. Our hosts were very friendly, helpful and we enjoyed our farm tour with goats, deer and hens. Thankyou for such an enjoyable experience.

Great cottage.
We loved the cottage, one of the best we have stayed in. The owners had thought of everything we could possibly need. The cottage was very warm, clean and in a great location, just 5 minutes from town but in a lovely rural setting. Highly recommended.

The cottage itself is lovely in the farmlike surrounds and would be a fatastic place to stay in the summer. however the heatpump struggled to keep up with the intense dunedin cold! Single glassed windows leaked badly and we had to leave the heatpump on 24hrs to keep the place reasonably warm.. The beds were comfy and good quality.

We were a little worried that the property would be too far out of town, and were pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually quite close to Dunedin and the CBD, and was easy and quick to get to by car. The accommodation was ample for our family of four, and we really appreciated the kitchen setup and supplies, and the wonderful bottle of milk.

We are a young couple with 2 boys. We own a lifestyle property with the additional cottage that is well-appointed for guest privacy 20 plus metres away from our home.

During the weekends and summer evenings we enjoy working outside on our mini-farm, with our animals, our ever-growing lawn and never ending need for firewood.
