Serenity and scenery
Rustic charm. Great location. Furnishings especially bedrooms a bit tired. Washing machine needs the tip. Missed the warning no linen or towels so was a nuisance and supply offer a bit too costly for us. But balanced by locale and lower tariff. Must have car.

Memories from a family gathering
13 of us all had a bed and space to be inside and outside at this picturesque location with lots to do including kayaking, swimming, so many photo opportunities as well as easy access to all the area had to offer. Easy to find. So many cleaning products covered all that was needed. Kitchen was a bit small but we managed. One toilet, but ones next door to playground if needed. Kids had a ball. The experience has provided a lot of memories .

Escaped after 1 hour
Decrepit inside and out. Two kitchen drawers with no bottoms, front of one hanging off. Great gap under front door. Totally misleading photographs. 4 days prepayment abandoned. Found replacement accommodation in Invercargill.

Weekend by an estuary
Our family had a lovely relaxing weekend at this old but charming house. The views over the estuary from the upstairs deck, especially at dawn, were perfect and we all loved bobbing around it in the kayaks (water was crystal clear). We also went for a bush walk, played tennis and popped over to Nugget Point. A classic New Zealand crib (bach)!

Chilling out in The Catlins
This is a quaint historic home with undoubtedly a lot of stories to tell! An excellent location directly over the road from the Catlins River estuary and bar, just 3km to Owaka, good access to Surat Bay - and several good walks in the vicinity. Heaps of bird life which varies with the tide - and also sighted a couple of sea-lions frolicking in the water. The main living, kitchen and main bedroom are all upstairs, so not suitable for the physically handicapped. Stunning views from the living area, and especially the dining 'nook' where we spent a lot of time! Recommended.

Beautiful view
We had a nice stay here. It is a nice old house with a beautiful view. Guests clean the house when they leave, which means that the most important things are clean but other parts are a bit dusty.

Awesome place to stay for a family
We really enjoyed our stay here. There are lots of things at the house to do (games, books, DVDs, sports equipment etc) and having the estuary and playground right next door meant the kids were well entertained the whole time. It's lovely and warm with the heat pump, and the beds are comfortable. Would love to come and stay again sometime!

Great getaway
We had a great couple of days, the house was perfect for our two Whanau. The Kayaks provided and nextdoor park kept them very well entertained. House is very quirky and cool, queen beds were particularly comfy. Would recommended, and would love to stay again.

Great spot in Catlins ... House is old but lots of character and lots of space. There are games for kids and is right on the water and by a playground. Central to lots of attractions.

Lovely wee weekend away by the sea
Great location in a quiet wee spot on the estuary. Kayaks to take out when the tide is high. Lots of short walks around. Short drive to Owaka for supplies. We loved the weekend away from the chaoticness home can sometimes be however our only heads up to travelers considering this home is that is it not maintained regularly by a hired cleaner which means you are depending on whomever stayed before you to have cleaned properly. Also firewood may not be stocked and you are arriving to a potentially cold house (weather dependent) without appliances ready to go. No wifi and no signal on some cellular providers (not necessarily a bad thing...!). All this being said it is a traditional kiwi easy-going style of getting away in a beautiful location. Owners are good at getting in touch with you/communicating. Lots of DVDs and games about. Would recommend.

Loved the location. We watched sea lions swimming in the water in front of the Bach. Lots of dvds and games/toys to keep the kids entertained when it rained. Well equipped, comfy beds. Warm house. Loved being able to light the fire for extra warmth and ambience. Had a fabulous time.
