About this property

The beach house is perfectly suited to families, wheelchair accessible and pet friendly with a fully fenced section a swing set and tree house in the back yard. Sit outside and listen to the waves crashing on the soft white sand a block away. Waikouaiti has a couple of taverns, Fish and Chip/ Chinese takeaway, cafe, bakery, petrol and dairy. A short drive down the road is another gorgeous beach of Karitane or wander a bit further to the Moeraki Boulders or historic town of Oamaru. Dunedin is 30min away.

Problem with book a batch

Great place lovely home. Will come again. Book a batch web site difficult. Wanted to extend stay. Had to go direct to owners for this. It would have been much easier to have direct contact with owners without the hassle and stuff up with book a batch. Owners were very helpful and accommodating.

Quiet retreat

Awesome spot

We stayed for a few nights and what a cracking place. All the amenities you need for a weekend away, would definitely consider this place for a longer stay in the future. Clean house, great location, five minutes from the beach. We really didn’t need much more! Fully enclosed garden which our dog appreciated, and a great log burner to keep us warm and cosy in the evening.

Perfect Kings Birthday weekend away

We booked this beautiful property for a long weekend get away to celebrate my dad's Birthday, as a family, including my one year old nephew and three small doggies. We could not fault this beautiful beach house - fully fenced for our doggy's and a very active little lad to run around in, plenty of firewood to keep the fire cranking during a cold Otago winter weekend, delightful and tasteful decoration throughout the entire, and spacious yet cozy home. We LOVED our stay here, so much so, that we have booked to come back and hopefully enjoy the outdoors some more during the summer including trips to the very close by beautiful beach, over Jan 2024. Although the weather wasn't the warmest, we still managed to get out for a big walk together as a family around the estuary which was a highlight. Thanks so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home - we can't wait to come back!

a lovely house but

The house is lovely but with any self clean bach you're dependant on the previous holiday people to find your bach nice. We had mice disturbing our 1st night sleep, they were in the wardrobe of the master bedroom and I had found food residue in that room too, there were no traps in the house and shops were shut so the mice did some running and scratching about on night 1. We were able to buy some traps during our second day and caught three mice and then none on our second night so we are confident we got them all but it wasn't a restful time unfortunately. Our kids were comfy in the bunk room and I enjoyed the newish shower. Our kids loved the cubby house.

Beach retreat

Well equipped home for a stay at the beach. Secure yard for the dog to explore, (or children). Thoughtful decor throughout. Quick and clear communication with host most helpful. Close to the beach. Locals are friendly.

Lovely place to stay

Good fire, comfortable, good amenities except the vacuum cleaner needs servicing and the filters cleaned and a note to tenants saying ‘after you have used the cleaner, empty it.’ Would be good if tenants filled the wood boxes. We didn’t kill the rabbit on the driveway, by the way. Overall really neat place and great walks and scenery.

Absolutely fab

This home was brilliant and it catered for everything. 2 bathrooms with us girls was great. Living space especially super plus having 2 outdoor areas.We had stunning weather and beach walks. Did not like the bunks as if we did have to use the top would never have got up as bottom step too high lol . Thanku and would love to return

Waikouaiti Fantail

Our third visit here, so speaks for itself. Perfect access to walks/beach for the dog - backyard well fenced. Love seeing the horses being exercised/trained on the beach. 5 minutes to shops; 10 to gorgeous Karitane; 15 to Palmerston. And, when the roads are not under repair, 30 minutes to Dunedin. We hope to be back again, soon

Waikouaiti stay

We love this house. I just want to mention that the bolts holding the toilet seat in the new bathroom are lose. The bolt on the double gate outside was rusted and it has fallen off. We just wanted to let you know. Thank you for a wonderful stay

We purchased Fantail Folly after falling in love with the house, beach and area when we stayed there a couple of times with our family. It was hard to find pet friendly fully fenced accommodation and this ticks all the boxes.
