Amazing vacation

We had an amazing time at this beautiful house and location. We did had few issues though, the screen of the sliding door kept falling, the dishwasher and laundry machine didn't work most of the time we were there and when we wanted to grill and already bought some meat to cook we found out that the 1 gas tank is empty. Otherwise everything was great. Thank you so much!

Mountain vacation

We enjoyed our stay at the Holliday House! It is very secluded - steep roads and 20 minutes from town. It wasn't convenient to 'run to town' if we needed something. The surroundings are relaxing and peaceful. We spent a lot of time on the deck listening to the creek. The house was as pictured. Plenty of room for our family of 5. The kitchen had the bare minimum for cooking. We were able to make do for the meals we prepared. Having the grill to use was a bonus! Some of our favorite things in the area were driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, short hike to SoCo Falls, exploring/shopping in Sylva and Waynesville. Stop at the Jackson County visitor center for lots of great information. The adventurous ones of our group did the hike to Pinnacle Peak - strenuous, but worth it! We tried the sunset hike to Waterrock Knob. Unfortunately it was foggy/cloudy at that altitude- still a great experience. Our restaurant recommendations would be Balsam Falls Brewing Co and Mad Batter Kitchen in Sylva. The Twisted Spoke in Maggie Valley was excellent, as well. Communication with Sundog Vacation Rentals was great. They were very responsive to our messages both before and during our stay. We've already discussed coming back to this same house again!

Beautiful cabin

Overall our stay was good. Had a few issues that were taken care of quickly. Few things that are advertised were not available like the waffle maker but we made other arrangements to accommodate that. We would definitely rent this cabin again

Mountain escape

The Holliday House was exactly what we expected and more! The property is so beautiful. The views are breathtaking, and the house is like a dream. The hosts really set you up with everything you could need and the quaint little touches throughout made this one of our favorite stays to date. We can't say enough good things about the property and it was a wonderful vacation home for our family. Between meals on the multilevel decks and hanging out in the hammock room while enjoying the view from the picture window, I think anyone staying here would feel comfortable and fully emersed in the mountain scape. 10 out of 10.

Mountains!

My family had a great week in Sylva. The house had everything we needed. The outside amenities needed a little attention, but considering how far up the mountain it was that's not surprising. All things considered I would stay at the Holliday House again.

Thanksgiving Week Get-away

We had an absolutely delightful week. It was everything I had hoped from my first try at a VRBO vacation. The location was spectacular - views of the mountains & woods out of every window. The accommodations were very spacious & comfortable. There were five of us - with the mother-in-law suite as a quiet retreat we had plenty of room. The weather was chilly enough that we didn't spend much time outside, but I made a point of stepping out on the deck every night before retiring - the peace & quiet, with just the sound of the creek below & stunning views of the stars overhead was perfect. The location gave us access to both Asheville & the Smokies, but frankly I would have been content to not venture anywhere, it was so nice where we were. As advertised, supplies & kitchen furnishings were adequate for a weekend stay. I might advise anyone intending a longer stint, as we did, to plan on bringing more of their own tools (baking/cooking pots & pans, casseroles, measuring etc) - but the basics were certainly covered. Access was a bit tricky - narrow, winding & steep mountain road, but the driving instructions were spot-on to get us there, & though I was glad we had front-wheel drive, as promised we were ok w/out 4-wheel drive. We may have been pushing it this late in the season - I don't think I would want to try the steep parts if the roads were snowy, icy or slick. But having been there once, I would go for it again - so worth it! And rental staff super helpful & responsive!

Loved this beautiful and comfortable house. Nice bedding, slept well.

We loved the house, the mother in law quarters were perfect for my brother who turned 80 years old during this trip. He had privacy, but also close to mingle with us when he wanted. Teen granddaughter and 8 year old sister loved the twin room with their own bath. Our small dogs loved the big yard. Would definitely stay here again.

Pure privacy

Love this place. It's a cozy cottage nestled in the woods. Nothing but trees, mountain views and the sound of rushing water. We hiked from the house to both the Pinnacle trail and Black rock. 30 min drive to some of the best white water rafting in NC. Not our first time staying here and won't be our last.

Beautiful house and setting

We had such a great vacation. It was really neat that the place had a view and a trickling stream. I enjoyed playing the electric piano and we love using the fire pit. This this was one of the best stays we've had in the mountains.

Beautiful home, lacks showers

This property was secluded and up a steep gravel drive as advertised. What was missed was that there was only one good shower for a house that can hold 7 people. The master bedroom has a lovely soaking tub but no shower. We are a close family and shared the other shower but it would be awkward with multiple families

Private Mountain Home

My family (myself, husband and 2 kids) stayed here for a week. We really enjoyed staying up a mountain and it was nice and private. A few nights we had a fire and roasted s'mores and hot dogs over the fire. The home was equipped with plenty of towels, soap, and essentials we needed. There was plenty of space in the home for us but be prepared for about a 7-8 min drive up the mountain to the home. We got used to it after the 2nd day. The town is really nice and quiet but also close to different destinations for our trip. We had a really enjoyable stay.

Great house tucked high in the hills!!!

What a terrific place to get away from it all. The time in the mountain air was just what the family needed and the Holliday House provided the perfect back drop. The icing on the cake was being able to include my pups. Management Response: Thank you! We hope to host you again in the future!

It was PERFECT!!

We stayed at The Holliday house for the weekend as our daughter graduated from WCU. It was PERFECT for us! The home was beautiful, comfortable and met all of our needs! The views are breathtaking! I am always nervous because my Mother has mobility issues, but there were NO ISSUES! There was a ramp into the main house, only a small step into the MIL Suite and 2 walk in showers. She chose to stay in the main house so our daughters could have their own space, and we couldn't have had a more pleasant experience. The house is so pretty and super comfy! Would love to stay there again if we were in the area. Only wish we had known about it while she was still in college! Also, the Management Company was super helpful and so quick with responses to my many questions.

Private and peaceful!

We enjoyed our stay at The Holiday house. It was very cozy, private and peaceful. Everything was clean and we had a great time! The drive up was a bit stressful for my parents ( they are in their 70’s) and my mom wanted to make sure we were back before dark each night because of the mountainous drive up to the house. Otherwise very nice!

Wonderful stay at Holliday House...!

Loved almost everything about this house. Nicely furnished, good layout, beautiful views from everywhere, including the patio, garden tub and little 'hammock' room (which we used as a meditation/yoga studio :). The separate cottage was adorable, well decorated and private. The only concern on the location is that it is quite high up on the mountain and the roads getting there are very narrow and winding. While I don't think this would be an issue for anyone used to this type of driving, we are 'flatlanders' from Florida so it took us a bit of time to get the hang of it. We were especially cautious once it got dark and on rainy days. We were there for a month so by the time we left we were much more comfortable with it. The only other suggestion would be since there is no shower in the master bathroom it would be nice to at least have a handheld shower/faucet combo on the garden tub. We had to use either the 2nd bathroom shower (which is only accessible by going through the 2nd bedroom) or head out to the cottage, which was a bit inconvenient when family was visiting and occupying these areas. We love the town of Sylva and all the surrounding towns (Waynesville, Dillsboro, Cherokkee), and of course the lower temperatures and humidity. We will definitely be back next summer...! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us...

Great COVID-Safe Vacation!

We wanted to go on vacation but stay safe from COVID (i.e., avoid people). This house met all of our requirements, including leaving time between bookings and having no immediate neighbors. We also wanted to stay in the mountains and preferably have a creek and a firepit for s'mores (requests from my daughter), and wanted wi-fi. Once we checked off those boxes, this place keeps on giving. The house was very clean and exactly as advertised, it looked just like the pictures. We asked a couple of questions before booking, and got responses very quickly. Communications from the renting party came out regularly leading up to our trip, and I felt comfortable that if I had additional questions or concerns, I could have asked. We saw turkeys almost every day, walking in the open field area to the side of the house, and right before we left we saw a bunch of baby turkeys! One day there was a ruckus outside, and there was an epic battle between a large snake (clearly not venomous, I familiarized myself with possible local venomous snakes beforehand) and a turkey, both still trying to kill and eat the other. The good news is we weren't traumatized by watching one die, it ended in a draw, and both went off looking for dinner that is less likely to kill them. We did not use the mother-in-law suite as we only had 3 people, but we looked inside and it looked like the pictures. The house was perfect for us, and except during a few storms, the wi-fi was perfectly adequate for 2 adults and a teenager. The house also has satellite TV, which worked fine even during the storms. Upon arrival, we could hear the creek, so we checked it out (some of the wood on the stairs/path down to the creek is starting to rot, so be careful, but it didn't give when we walked on it), and it wasn't quite as exciting as the creek sounds advertised while up at the house, but my daughter was quite happy just to hear it throughout the visit. The drive in is on both paved and unpaved roads, somewhat steep in some areas and some pretty impressive switchbacks, but we were fine in our Florida car with Florida tires and only 2 wheel drive. The first couple of times coming into the very steep driveway were a little scary for those of us not used to huge hills, but fortunately my husband was driving, and he thought the whole drive was fantastic. My teenager just loved sitting in the hammock in the corner room and enjoyed the views for hours. The location was great, with a gas station not far.
