After the 2011 earthquake, Lichfield Street underwent extensive redevelopment, and is now one of the most modern and well-designed streets in the city. The street is also home to several cultural institutions, including the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, which showcases works by both local and international artists. The Isaac Theatre Royal, a beautifully restored historic theater, is also located on Lichfield Street, and regularly hosts a range of performances and events.
