Wonderful Get Away
Pictures really do not do this beautiful cabin justice. It was the perfect get away for my husband and myself. We wanted a few days to escape and relax before the holiday season, thats exactly what we got. The bedding is very comfortable which is impressive compared to other places we have experienced. The cabin is close to downtown, stores and resturants which was convenient. Mark was very kind and extremely helpful. We cant wait to go back.

Crisp air, clean property, great location
This is a great place to stay because the cabin is absolutely beautiful. All the amenities are top notch, the bedding and towels were luxurious and smelled so fresh, there were totally useful kitchen items (unlike so many places) the fireplace added a warm ambiance, swing in front was so relaxing -- especially while listening to the birds. Great host who really cares about his guests and their happiness. I would highly recommend this vrbo

Thanksgiving
Overall, our stay was nice. We did find that the lighting was ineffecient. Needs more lighting besides overhead fans. Also, if you want to watch TV, you have to do it through a cable hooked up to your computer. The cable was the wrong caable. Very frustrating.

Calm and clean
We loved our stay. Mark was very responsive to all our questions. The cabin itself is a gem -- a beautiful place to be. Wonderfully quiet porch and a short drive to everywhere we wanted to go in Asheville. Though honestly we were happy to spend a lot of time in the cabin! The kitchen had everything we needed plus it had reasonably sharp kitchen knives -- a VRBO rarity! Lastly, though I was on vacation I had to update my computer OS and download a lot of software. The WiFi performed flawlessly.

Things you must know before you book
I would love for future travelers to be informed regarding key elements regarding this property. First, I’ll start with some perks: -the scenic view is truly breathtaking -the claw foot tub was enchanting -rustic vibe Unfortunately, there are many red flags that neee to be brought to lights. First, the only dead bolt was broken on the front door, but the host (who lives across the street) reassured me that he normally doesn’t even lock the door. There are no curtains on the main level of the house, including a bedroom and the bathroom with the claw foot tub. The hot tub was dirty, despite following specific instruction to rinse out hair products and makeup before entry. Previous guests must have not followed that request. The buttons in the hot tub did not work (no jets). The host, who seemed super chill and kind upon my arrival gave my a personal tour then asked my to join his meditation group and later asked if he could come over and do his laundry while my friends and I were there. THEN asked if he could stay at the cabin, with my friends and I, if the snow storm we were about to experience got ugly. Please note, this man seems really kind and non threatening, especially when insinuating I had nothing to worry about should the snow apocalypse occur… which it did. That was a real game changer. Anyway, lots of drama with a helicopter host, safety concerns, and a mediocre space with pretty views. Also, working with VRBO to help resolve payment issues with this host was nightmare.

Perfect setting for peaceful family retreat
The cabin is a work of art, enhanced by its woodland setting and creative furnishings. A perfect place to reminisce and celebrate the simple joys of living--quiet, beautiful, conducive to contemplation and communication. A convenient location for both city pleasures (art galleries, good restaurants) and outdoor adventures (hikes in DuPont State Park and other natural areas north of Asheville). Our thanks to host Mark Dobkin for his gracious welcome and sensitivity to our interests. His artistic touches are evident throughout the property. We hope to return to this lovely, rejuvenating setting.

Perfect location. Feels nestled away in the woods but close to downtown Asheville.
Charming, zen, home. A cabin feel but with updated amenities. The details of this home 1 pride of ownership. Woodwork carved in the stairs, the claw bathtub and bath salts to soak after hiking. So many small details make you feel at home. I loved the barn doors. Mark was an amazing host! Offering to light fire pits for us and checking in. Smooth process from check in to check out. Hope to stay if I visit Asheville again. Thanks for everything Mark.

Beautiful, remote-feeling location, with easy access to all the fun spots
Our family of four (kids age 15 and 10) had a lovely week staying at Mark's place. The cabin, situated at the end of the road feels private and secluded. The porch and hot tub provide lovely views of the nearby mountain and the linens, towels and beds inside were soft and comfortable. With COVID cautions we mostly stayed oudoors. This cabin was the perfect driving distance from many great outings: WNC Nature center or Folk Art Center (9 min), Antique Tobacco Barn (for antiques not tobacco - 20 min), Biltmore Estate and Gardens (19 min), Chimney Rock, Hickory Nut Falls and picnicking in the town of Bat Cave (40 min), Craggy Gardens (40 min), and all the wonderful restaurants downtown with outdoor seating (17 min). Be sure to try to Copper Crown, which is a chef-owned restaurant - just 9 minutes from the house - with amazing cocktails and food. As in any old house -- the walls and floor boards do not do much to contain noises. This wasn't a problem at all, for our family of four, since we are pretty quiet and tend to rise at rest at similar times, but if you are with another couple that likes to stay up late chatting, or watching t.v. or whatever, you might want to bring a white noise machine or ear plugs for extra separation. Also, this is noted under amenities, but remember there is no microwave or dishwasher when you are planning what to cook (or reheat for kids). We highly recommend this house, which it's deep luxurious claw-foot tub that fills with hot water in seconds, it's beautiful leather couch by the fire and it's gracious and accommodating host - Mark D.

We really enjoyed our stay at this cozy cabin. It was very a clean and cozy home on the outskirts of town. However, it was still so close to everything! . Mark was a kind host and made us feel very welcome. We hope to visit again next year!

Great Thanksgiving Getaway
This cabin is wonderful! Very comfortable stay. Far enough away from Downtown Asheville yet a close, easy ride if you want to go into the city. Due to COVID we cooked a lot and stayed in playing games, or hiked in surrounding parks, etc. to avoid crowds. Highly recommended, and will stay again next time I am in Asheville. Mark is a kind and responsive host. Could not be more pleased. Thanks again!

Heavenly
Greeted on arrival by our host,Mark, and treated to a brief tour of the property. It was just what we wanted and exactly as advertised. Clean, quiet, charming, comfortable and convenient to everything Asheville. We rode the Blue Ridge Parkway(5 minutes From our front door, hiked, fined dined (at Jargon) luxuriated in the hot tub and unwound by the great fire in the fire pit. Mark was a perfect host and we recommend his cabin in the woods for any folks who want a top shelf experience.

Access to the house was difficult; no outside lighting; railings; outside areas not inviting; items in ill repair; sparsely furnished kitchen with needs; No privacy window coverings on 1st floor bedroom and bathroom windows. Needs some TLC. Great proximity to Asheville though.

Lovely visit
My two adult children, and my wife and I really enjoyed our week visiting Asheville and our stay at the cabin. Mark (property owner) met us on arrival and made us feel both welcome and comfortable in his cabin. He is an artist and it shows in his respect for the environment and the care he has taken in renovating the cabin, to include showcasing many of his own objects of art. The cabin location is convenient to the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance, and close to downtown Asheville, and best of all it's in a quiet wooded area that provides a restful and peaceful setting away from work and the city. While we spent most of our time hiking and relaxing, we even played tourist one day and visited the Biltmore to see the extensive grounds and tour Biltmore house. We intend to come back for a 2d visit soon to see more of Asheville and to enjoy more day hikes in the mountains.

About the host

Host profile image
This is the most difficult part for me.
I'm active in creating art, music, selfless giving, Self Realization, sustainability, growing a food forest, creating environments that are extraordinary. Love nature, the mountains, the ocean, the beaches. Sailing, surfing, mountain biking, nutrition, health and fitness. Always striving to becoming a more loving human being and making the property more beautiful.

Why they chose this property

The photographs tell an accurate picture of the place although I switch some of the furniture around and art work, and part of the meadow has turned into a vegetable garden and mini orchard with fruit trees and berry bushes, and hopefully sooner than later a domed greenhouse in the lower property.all the animals are still around, it's so peaceful and still here, beautifully green with splashes of purples, whites, and yellows from the flowers. The fireflies make for a captivating light show at night as well as the stars on a clear night. But the cabin , it's the real deal and it just feels so solid, open and with a great vibe. A lot of loving energy has been poured into the property and you'll probably feel it. Many people come here on their own personal retreat as the cabin and grounds are like a sanctuary for them. The place is sacred, a place to laugh, a place to cry and a place to go within and to discover perhaps more of who you truly are.

What makes this property unique

The whole property is unique inside and out. It's a very special and rare environment close enough, yet far enough from town. You'll see when you get here but more than that, I suspect you'll feel the difference.
