KITCHEN
Guests love our kitchen. It is very well equipped and has everything you might need to prepare any meal. Eating from the elegant Susan Conran tableware adds to the pleasure of every meal. The dining table is handmade from wood grown on the property, The dining area is more than just a place to dine: with an oven bench on one side and a leather bench on the other, the table is the perfect place to socialise, chat and spend quality time. - It's comforting to know that this table is made from wood that was once a tree, grown and nurtured on this land.
From here, you can access the deck and its enclosed dining area. We also provide a gas BBQ.
DECK
The wraparound deck invites you to sunbathe, relax in an Adirondack chair and end the day by the fire pit beneath the Milky Way.
BEDROOMS
Nights are amazing in the huge master bedroom with two queen beds and 4 skylights for stargazing, and a window front overlooking the bay.
Downstairs there is a bedroom with two twin beds and an adjacent bathroom. There also is a cozy little den with one sleep.
LIVING / TV ROOM
The large TV room is also located on the lower floor. Our comfortable Rolf Benz corner sofa is perfect for chilling out, watching a film or just hanging out. We do not have cable TV, but you can use a Fire Stick or DVD player. We also have a large collection of older DVDs - a pleasure to watch old movies and share memories.
READING ROOM
Right off the upstairs living room, there is a small room with a sofa and book shelves. It may be used to retreat, read, as a playroom, or just lying on the sofa, thinking nothing and looking at the ocean... That's how vacations work!
SAUNA 1: log sauna
The attraction we are most proud of is our log sauna in the backyard. The wood-burning stove provides the perfect sauna climate and we are sure that sauna lovers will appreciate it! A subsequent dip in the cold plunge tub will awaken all your senses.
SAUNA 2: infrared sauna
If you are looking for a just quick sauna event, feel free to use the infrared sauna. Just turn it on and wait for 30 minutes. The infrared heat penetrates more deeply and allows you to experience a more intense sweat at a lower temperature and stay in the sauna longer.
BACKYARD
Just underneath the master bedroom and right next to the backyard is an extremely spacious screen room! You can relax on the sofa or just hang out whenever you feel like it. At the back of this room, you'll find the infrared sauna, and at the other end, there is a large table with chairs. It is also perfect for activities with children and family!
Outside the screen room, the backyard offers a round wooden table and five chairs. The vibrant colours of the furniture always put me in a good mood just by looking at them.
OCEANSIDE LAWN
Facing the ocean, behind the house there is a lawn. Most of the property is fenced in - but do not rely on it, the fence may have a weak point through which a clever dog can escape.
ROADSIDE LAWN
The lawn in front of the house is big enough to play badminton, fly kites or play other games.
PATH TO THE BEACH
A small path is leading down to the beach, which will not take longer than may be three minutes. Kids can play in the white sand, you may dip your toes into the Atlantic ocean and simply stroll along the water's edge.
After long periods of rain there may be a small stream before you get to the beach. You may have to take your shoes off and walk through the water.

About the host
Hosted by Konstanze Quirmbach

We are your hosts: Konstanze Quirmbach and Martin Quirmbach. We are a German couple, living mostly in Europe - but from 2002 to 2014 we spent 12 wonderful years in Port Mouton and Nova Scotia, living here year round.
WE GOT STUCK
When we first visited Nova Scotia, we fell in love with the rugged coast and may bays, the sound of the ocean, and the beauty of the landscape, especially in the fall. We found our spot in Port Mouton and decided to stay, build a home and enjoy the experience.
WHY ARE WE RENTING NOW?
Eventually, we realised that we missed spending more time with our family and grandchildren, as well as being closer to friends and other relatives in Europe.
In 2017, we started renting out our beautiful home in Nova Scotia while we were away. We opened our home away from home as a holiday rental to people who can appreciate the love and thought we put into style, furniture, and all other little details.
Today, we're happy to have found a way to share our little piece of heaven with others!
We still absolutely enjoy the time we get to stay here each year. And so does our son and his family, who love to spend their summer holidays at Beach Heaven.
Thanks for you appreciating what we offer!

Why they chose this property
There is an interesting story to the small fishery village of Port Mouton. We like this story and let it live on with the sheep on our roof:
"The story of "Sheep Overboard" connected to Port Mouton, Nova Scotia, dates back to 1604 when French explorers Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Monts, and Samuel de Champlain arrived in the area. According to the tale, while the explorers' ship was anchored near the coast, a sheep, excited by the sight of land after a long journey, jumped overboard and swam to shore. This event gave the port its name, as "Mouton" is French for sheep. The village has retained this name ever since, and the story has become part of its historical identity."
We were fascinated first by the name itself, which seems to be so French and which is pronounced so so English: Port Me'toon. And we were also drawn to this place by the charm of the life that revolves around boats and fishing.
Lobstering is a traditional activity in the harbour of Port Mouton. From December to May, many fishermen take their boats out to sea to catch lobsters and make a living.
Summer is the season for herring fishing. Many boats come from other regions to fish for herring. From Beach Heaven you can see many lights on the sea at night as the fishermen search for the best catch.
Last but not least, we also appreciate the beauty of the bay of Port Mouton and its pristine beaches.

What makes this property unique
We are nestled in the dunes with a private path leading down to the white sandy beach. It is a dream come true for us to live so close to the ocean. It is a gift.
When we bought the property, a number of maple trees had been cut down on our neighbour's land. She was kind enough to offer to let us use the wood. We gladly accepted and had it made into floors, window sills and furniture. We still are grateful and love the idea of living amongst the wood of the trees that grew here, next to our property.
One other very unique feature of this property is the log sauna in the backyard. It has a wood-burning stove to heat the cabin up. We have developed a special system for sauna infusion that allows the water to flow slowly over the hot stones. A small fan then distributes the heat and aromas throughout the room. Divine!
The climate in a log cabin sauna is different from smaller saunas. There is more air, more space, which feels so pleasant and freeing! And if you look out the window, you can see the dunes, the sea and the sky.
After the sauna, we highly recommend a dip in the cold tub, which is just behind the sauna. If you really want to get the full sauna experience, this is a must - and an amazing experience!
Beach Heaven is a fitting name for this modern holiday home. To the locals it is more commonly known as "The Sheephouse". The two concrete sheep on the green roof were designed and made by local artist Ivan Higgins.
Want to see more of his work?
We suggest that while you are holidaying in Beach Heaven, be sure to visit his exhibition at his park "Cosby's Garden Centre" on HWY 3 in Liverpool (https://www.simplelocallife.com/concrete-creations-creating-space-with-liverpools-garden-sculptor/).
