About this property
Midcentury 2br apartment in Toorak Close to MCG, Tennis, CBD
Welcome to Treetops in Toorak, a spacious, entire 2br apartment located just 4km from Melbourne Park and the MCG, 5km from the National Gallery of Victoria, and 5km from Melbourne’s CBD. Kooyong Tennis Centre is an easy 2km walk, while the Albert Park Grand Prix is a short drive or Uber.
Set high above the Toorak treetops with 180-degree views of the city, the 110 sqm apartment combines mid-century cool with modern luxury. Flooded with natural light and boasting lovely views, every comfort has been considered: two quality QS beds with luxury linens, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, oven, steam oven and induction cooktop, flat-screen TV with Netflix, free WiFi, European laundry with new washer/dryer, reverse cycle air conditioner, central bathroom with luxury toiletries, separate toilet and basin, and long, scenic balcony overlooking the elegant Toorak neighbourhood. Behind a security door is the original 1960s foyer, complete with Koi pond and decorative Japanese screen. The apartment comes with two secure car spaces.
The location couldn’t be more convenient: walk 3 mins to bustling Toorak Village with its multitude of restaurants, cafes and shops. A short tram ride takes you to Chapel Street with its high street shops and designer boutiques. Walk to the Yarra River or take a leisurely cycle down the riverside bicycle path to the entertainment and arts precincts, or continue to Southbank and the CBD.
As befits the premium address, Treetops in Toorak has been thoughtfully designed and decorated to make guests feel at home. A huge teak bookcase features curated finds from around the world and an extensive book collection. Original art and vintage 1960s furniture are matched with modern pieces to create a calm and welcoming environment. If you’re visiting for work, there’s a large home office desk with monitor, lamp and office basics.
The property is strictly non-smoking (including balcony) and strictly no parties. This is a primarily residential building so we ask guests to be considerate of our neighbours.
Living/Dining: Set high with views into the lush treetop and across to the CBD, the living room evokes mid-century style. Extremely large and suffused with light from the east and north facing windows, the emphasis is on quiet luxury and style. Original 1960s furniture is matched with a comfy couch and occasional chairs for relaxing after a big day out shopping or watching your favourite sport. The original teak floor-to-ceiling bookshelf features an extensive book collection along with curios collected on the owners’ travels. Opposite, a wall of windows opens onto a full length balcony, the perfect spot for a quiet morning coffee or to relax with a good book. There’s also a large Sony flat-screen TV, liquor cabinet and 6-person dining table. A large (quiet) reverse cycle airconditioner keeps the whole apartment cool in summer and toasty in winter.
Kitchen: Modern and well-equipped kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances including Asko multifunction oven and separate steam oven, four-burner induction cooktop, full-size dishwasher, microwave, and French door fridge with integrated cold water and separate freezer drawer. A double sink offers stunning views to the north across Toorak and Richmond to the CBD beyond. Whipping up a meal is a pleasure with new cookware, crockery and appliances. Baking trays and basic kitchen essentials are also supplied. For coffee lovers, there is a new pod machine with separate milk frother and a French coffee press. A teapot and several different types of tea are included, along with cookbooks, wine glasses and table napery.
Bedroom 1: The Blue Room – Flooded with natural light, the master bedroom is very spacious and designed for comfort. Furnished to a high standard it features an upholstered queen size bedhead and frame, new pillow top mattress (medium feel), high quality bed linens and feather pillows. Above the bed are original artworks by Melbourne artist Mark Schaller. Floor to ceiling robes provide ample storage for longer stays, while the study nook offers a sunny spot to work. A sliding door offers ensuite access to the main bathroom next door. Flanking the queen-size bed are modern side tables, each with a reading light complete with USB plugs. Each window has privacy and block-out blinds for optimal control of light.
Bedroom 2: The Pink Room – Large and light-filled, the apartment’s second bedroom is calm and comfortable. The queen size upholstered bed features a pillow top mattress (medium feel), quality linens, extra-large feather pillows and a soft angora blanket. Features include marble-topped side tables, each with a light, extensive built in robes, a mirror and occasional chair. Facing west, the room is very quiet and has both privacy and block out blinds for sleeping.
Bathroom and laundry: Accessed off the main corridor (and with ensuite access to the master bedroom) the central bathroom is clean and functional. While a little dated (we’re renovating in 2025), it is spotlessly clean and has a fully glass-enclosed shower with new showerhead and separate vanity. A wall heater keeps the room cozy in winter, while a large window lets in plentiful light. A separate toilet with another sink is adjacent. Behind large folding doors is a fully equipped laundry with brand new Electrolux front loading, multi-function washing machine and condenser dryer. Here you’ll also find provisions like washing powder, extra toilet paper, paper towel and cleaning supplies.
The building: Designed by Japanese architect Kyokuto Sekkei K.K in the early 1960s, Orrong Towers is notable as one of the first residential apartment complexes of its type in Toorak. Today, the building is a landmark in part due to the beautifully preserved foyer featuring the original Koi pond, terrazzo staircase and marble flooring. Located in one of Melbourne’s finest neighbourhoods, the building is set in lush, landscaped gardens beneath the towering canopy of mature plane trees lining Orrong Road. Secure car parking is accessed from Trawalla Road and includes two undercover car spaces, along with security building entrance.
The location: Melbourne’s most expensive suburb (and one of Australia’s richest postcodes), Toorak is is renowned for its leafy ambience, historic streetscapes, thriving restaurant scene and quaint shopping. Toorak Village (also known as Trak Village) is a block away and features numerous restaurants, cafes, supermarket, cinema, hairdressers, up-scale clothing retailers, delis, wine shop and gourmet providores. The No. 58 Toorak Road tram is a 2 minute walk and takes you directly into Southbank, the Arts Precinct, the Botanic Gardens and the Shrine of Remembrance. Just 2km down Toorak Road are the South Yarra Train station and South Yarra’s famous Chapel Street shopping precinct and centre with its abundance of clothing boutiques, nightclubs, Prahran market, Como Centre and the Como Cinema. For sport and concert goers, the apartment is ideally located close to the MCG, Tennis Centre, Arts Precinct, Southbank theatres and the Albert Park racetrack for the F1 Grand Prix.
