About this property
Retro Dog Friendly Farm Cottage near Ocean Grove with pet donkeys! New listing!
Mulberry Cottage, on Donkey Run Farm, is situated in rural Wallington, five minutes drive to Ocean Grove beach, wineries, Adventure Park, and all the area has to offer. Nearby are the townships of Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove, and our favourite Cicchetti Bar, 'Mona' just a couple of hundred metres away on Wallington Road, arguably the area's best kept dining secret! The property is a retro-inspired guest cottage located in one of the Bellarine's most coveted locations. The cottage was renovated from one of the farm's original buildings and completed in 2022. Mulberry Cottage will surprise and delight with its charming and unique features: retro-inspired styling, an open fireplace for cosy nights in, a bathtub with hot and cold running water on the back deck overlooking the paddocks, and a loft with single bed (suitable for over 12 years) in the second bedroom, ideal for children and families. The cottage also has reverse cycle air-conditioning and heating, and ceiling fans. We also offer all of the home comforts such as bathroom soaps and shampoos, hairdryer, washing machine, iron and board, coffee machine, and kitchen basics such as tea and coffee, and other basic supplies.
We invite you to venture into our extensive, fully netted orchard and food forest, and avail yourself of what ever herbs, fruit and veggies you are able to source for your home cooked meals during your stay.
Outdoors you will find a deck with dining setting, and a fire area with fire brazier and wood fired barbeque (subject to fire rating/weather conditions); everything you need for a memorable evening by the campfire. An ample supply of fire wood will be on hand for you to enjoy both the indoor fireplace and outdoor firepit.
Mulberry Cottage is (provisionally) dog friendly; if you are interested in bringing your dog it is essential that you contact us beforehand so that we can ascertain whether the property is suitable for your pet; please DO NOT assume and just turn up with your dog on board. The cottage has two fully fenced, secure yards and a dog door. Because we have livestock, if your dog can jump fences, unfortunately this property will not be suitable, as it can be very dangerous for both dogs and livestock in an uncontrolled situation.
Donkey Run Farm is a four-acre lifestyle property with a large netted orchard, beautiful gardens, and... we have donkeys! Three adorable miniature donkeys wander the property, and we encourage supervised interaction where appropriate; we would be delighted to introduce the donkeys to you in a controlled way for your safety and theirs.
Donkey Run is a working property with the usual ambience expected with a Farm Stay. Whilst you will enjoy high-end comfort in our adorable cottage, you will also be immersed in the sights, sounds and smells associated with a farm. Our donkeys do hee-haw in the mornings to let us know they're awake. Occasionally our neighbour will have cattle on his property. Whilst the cottage and surrounds are lovingly tended, we are frequently working in our orchard and on the property, with our tractor, tools and other farming implements out and about. We live on a dirt road, just off the main Wallington Road leading to Ocean Grove. This is all part of a rural experience and we encourage you to consider all aspects of a Farm Stay before booking. Please feel free to enquire directly if you have any further questions.
Mulberry cottage is ideal for one or two couples for a fun weekend away, or perhaps families with young children who would love everything our farm has to offer.
The cottage is not suitable for Schoolies, Hen's and Buck's weekends, and similar groups; unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate camping on the property to increase sleeping capacity.
In peak times and long weekends we do have a minimum stay policy (long weekends - three nights and peak holiday periods, seven nights) and a two-night minimum at other times. However if we have gaps in our calendar at these times we will do our best to accommodate you.
Our property is steeped in local history. We have a giant Norfolk Island Pine in our front yard that is around 150 years old, likely planted when the property was first settled. There is evidence of the first house circa 1880 embedded inside the walls of the existing owner's residence, and the renovated cottage is likely one of the oldest buildings on the property, based on infrastructure uncovered during renovation. Along our road there are structures that hark back to the earliest days of settlement in the area. We are proud to be caretakers of this wonderful piece of local history.
