The Space:
Kaura Retreat by Tiny Away is located just an hour from Melbourne in the rural town of Kinglake. It’s set on a pizza slice-shaped piece of land within Kinglake National Park. Your tiny home is surrounded by trees with sunlight dappling through the leaves, fog creating a blanket of quiet solitude, or rain softly hitting the moss-covered ground.

Experience nature and explore nearby Toolangi, Alowyn Gardens, Maroondah Reservoir Park, and Healesville Sanctuary for an adventure like no other.

A cozy 139-square-foot tiny home with easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste holding tank, hand basin, and shower (gas heated for hot showers).

If you plan to spend your tiny house Victoria getaway here, we advise that you bring your basic necessities such as food and water during your stay with us. Thank you!

Guest Access:
Guests can access the tiny home and surrounding areas. Our guests are welcome to go for a walk and explore our little slice of paradise. The owner embraces minimalist living herself and is situated in a tiny van in the middle of the property.

Guests are encouraged to come and say hello and share a cuppa over a story about how life has brought them to Kaura Retreat.

Settled within the Kinglake Ranges, this area offers the convenience of being near Melbourne and the Yarra Valley wineries. The region boasts a mix of dense forests and open farmland with ample opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and bird watching. A notable draw for nature lovers.

- Kinglake National Park offers scenic walks, mountain biking, and picnicking with views of the city and Port Phillip Bay. Visitors can see diverse wildlife and explore waterfalls, tall eucalypt forests, and the Gums Camping area.

Getting Around:
By Car:

- From Melbourne: Kaura Retreat is a 1 hour and 20-minute drive (approximately 65 km) from Melbourne.
- To Kinglake Town: A short 2-minute drive (3 km) from the retreat.

- Yarra Glen: 24 minutes (29 km)
- Vehicle Access: The retreat is accessible by any vehicle, including 2WD and motorbikes. However, due to the steep driveway, it’s recommended to park at the top to avoid the need for towing.

By Public Transport:

- Bus Service: The local bus service runs only four times a day, making it an impractical option for reaching the retreat.
Train & Uber:
- From Melbourne: Take the train to either Mernda or Hurstbridge train stations.
- Uber: From the station, book a ride with the local Uber driver, "The Grace-Ful Goat," who will take you the rest of the way. Pre-booking is recommended, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. Contact us for more info!

By Flight:

- Nearest Airport: Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) is the closest major airport.
- From the Airport: After landing, you can either rent a car or take a train to Mernda or Hurstbridge stations and follow the public transport instructions above for the remainder of the journey.

- Due to the nature of the property, wildlife may be present on the property.

- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge

Important note:

- Please take note that outdoor fire pits are not available during the fire season
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present in the surrounding areas
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the [compost/cassette] toilets and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.

- During a catastrophic fire rating, we will not allow anyone to travel to our property during this time and will ask Tiny Away Homes to offer you an alternative date for your booking instead.
- We adhere to strict guidelines for our bushfire ratings. During an Extreme warning, we recommend you arrive before 12 pm on the day of your booking (if the property is ready for you by this stage) or after 6 pm. 12 to 6 pm is a peak fire hazard and we’d prefer you aren’t traveling to our property during this time.
