Glen Choga Lodge is a historic log lodge in the serene mountains near Lake Nantahala, North Carolina. Initially constructed in 1935, the lodge has a rich history as a gathering place for travelers and nature lovers seeking a peaceful retreat in the Smoky Mountains. Over the years, it has maintained its rustic charm while undergoing careful restoration to preserve its historical integrity and provide modern comforts for guests. The lodge’s original log structure embodies the timeless beauty of early 20th-century Appalachian craftsmanship. Surrounded by lush forests and breathtaking mountain landscapes, the property offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
In 2019, Doug and Terri Matern purchased Glen Choga Lodge to restore it to its former glory while making it a welcoming bed and breakfast for visitors. Today, Glen Choga Lodge offers a unique blend of history, comfort, and natural beauty.
Guests can enjoy the warmth of handcrafted log walls, cozy stone fireplaces, and period furnishings that transport them back in time but also provide an update. The lodge’s common areas are designed for relaxation, featuring inviting seating areas where visitors can unwind with a book, share stories by the fire, or take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding forest. The location of Glen Choga Lodge makes it an ideal getaway for outdoor enthusiasts. Just minutes from Lake Nantahala, guests can access a wide range of water recreational activities and explore the scenic trails of the Nantahala National Forest. The nearby Nantahala River is also famous for its whitewater rafting, attracting adventure seekers internationally. Glen Choga Lodge provides a welcoming and intimate atmosphere, making it a perfect destination for romantic getaways, family gatherings, or small group retreats. Whether guests want a quiet escape into nature or an adventure-filled vacation, the lodge combines both.
