About this property

"Peaceful Valley Homestead" Hobby Farm & Mountain Paradise NEW HOT TUB!!

HOBBY FARM AND MOUNTAIN PARADISE. NEARBY PROFESSIONAL ROCK CLIMBING. MILES OF NEARBY ATV TRAILS. GOLD MEDAL FISHING 15 MINUTES.

Our cabin is 2200 sq ft., located 14 miles north of Woodland Park surrounded by Pike National Forest. The cabin is nestled among 60 year old giant pines and cottonwoods with groupings of large rock formations. The homested is actually the subdividsion of Pemberton, in Westcreek an old gold mining town with a wealth of history.

As one of our guests stated, "It is soothing to soul", and it is!! The sounds of the creek moving just outside the front of the cabin will simply wash away all the stresses that can accumulate with everyday life. There is quiet solitude and sounds of nature all around, with an abundance of furry friends. Hummingbirds return each year. We have nesting Red Tail Hawk, Golden Eagles and Bald Eagles that nest nearby and hunt our property. In the early morning or evening you will likely see our resident deer coming to drink from the creek, red fox, or blue heron on the w

The cabin is constantly being updated and renovated. Originally built by Jim's grandpa in 1952. It has had some additions made to the original structure. Surviving the Hayman Fire and two major floods. His grandfather is also responsible for all of the many rock walls surrounding the property, including a rock fort clubhouse at the top of the hill above the cabin. He built it for the many cousins who who visit often as boys. They would camp out there. There is also a rock fire pit nearby the fort.

We have now created a homestead here in an attempt to grow most of our own food.
We have a 3000 sq ft greenhouse where we grow an abundance of vegetables that we can and freeze. We also have Dexter cows, one of the original breeds prior to inner breeding. We have a bull "Mooster", named by previous owners. We just call him Moose. Three females that are due to give birth this spring. Rita, Lola and Nievea. Three small bulls to remain unamed.

We will be trying our hand at milking late Spring, hoping to make butter, cheese and ghee.. Always and adventure.

We have two older horses Frisky and Autumn. The are living out their golden years here. We also have 50 chickens which I am sure will be closer to 100 by Spring as we are constant;ly hatching to increase the flock. 100 is the limit.

We would love to have you visit and be a part of our adventure.

Best CO get-away ever!

Amazing farm property and house including indoor hot tub. Have never been to a VRBO that was this well-stocked with everything you need. Historical property with lots of books and pictures from the past. Perfect for people who want to get away from it all...

Beautiful property!

We loved everything about the cabin and the serenity of the area. We grilled out on the gas grill for most meals and enjoyed watching the cows and horses in the pastures! Deb and Jim were always very responsive of any questions we had and willing to do anything to make our stay better but everything we needed was provided. The hot tub was amazing to relax in before bed in the evening.

What a wonderful vacation!! The cabin was absolutely gorgeous! The babbling brook was very relaxing to sit by in the afternoons, and the hot tub was even more enjoyable in the evening after a long hike through the mountains. The views all around the cabin were beautiful! Everything in the cabin was new and clean, and staying there was an experience I would recommend to everyone! Jim and Deb were very gracious and fun to work with. I would love to stay there again, and I am definitely going to spread the word about their wonderful mountainside cabin!!

Quiet, Peaceful Beauty

If you want quiet, this is the place to be! From the grazing cows and horses, to the beautiful bubbling creek steps from the cabin, this peaceful property did not disappoint. And the view! OMG the view! The cabin is cozy and beautifully decorated, with all the amenities you'll need. The hot tub was very relaxing, complete with towels and warm cozy robes. We enjoyed it in the early morning hours, and also to end the day. It was heaven. And the owners were so very gracious and accommodating. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Thank you so much for making our stay so relaxing. We can't wait to come back!

Such a wonderful trip

We stayed for about a week and a half and didn’t want to leave! It was fantastic and so relaxing. The property is incomparable! View from the front door is unreal! Our kids loved seeing the cows in the afternoons and feeding the chickens. My husband the fly fisherman caught lots of brown trout in the creek on the property so he was very happy, too! For my birdwatchers, we saw the following: red-naped sapsucker pair hung out in the cottonwood right outside the door for many hours each day, lots of yellow warblers by the Creek, Cordilleran flycatchers (now Western?) hanging out in the Pine tree outside the window of the master bedroom. Violet green swallows everywhere and a few White Pelicans, red tailed hawks and herons flying over. Sadly we didn’t see any eagles! No beavers or big mammals either but we did see quite a few deer just outside the front door. The house is comfortable and decor is cute! Beds are nice and cozy and it’s well stocked with everything you might want- puzzles and coloring books for the kids, travel crib and high chair, vacuum, etc! Gas grill worked great! Minor complaint is the well water for showering and bathrooms is pretty heavy on iron and smells a little like rust from all minerals. Not a big deal as there’s reverse osmosis water to drink but it makes things like laundry a little more complicated than we were used to. Hosts were great communicators and made us feel very welcome. Wifi is very strong. We will hopefully be back again soon!

October 2021 Long weekend

What an awesome little place! Exactly as advertised and impeccably clean. While the location might be a little far from some attractions we managed to find a couple close hikes (Cheesman Canyon and Sheep Nose) and thoroughly enjoyed the on-site amenities. Lots of history in this house to review and learn about. Beautiful sunrises with our coffee. Mule deer were consistent visitors morning and evening. The horses loved the carrots, but passed on the celery! Many thanks for opening your house to my family and two dogs!

Beautiful setting

This is my 2nd visit to the house this time with my family and we all adored the house and setting. The night sky was brilliant and the days were spent reading out on the various patios. We took a hike at sheep nose and went rock hounding. We also went to the nearby petrified forest national monument. We hope to come back!

Beautiful mountain cabin

Our family had a wonderful time at the cabin! The stream is relaxing and we enjoyed the fort, hot tub, and fire pit. We were able to visit several sites in the area and come back to a well-stocked cabin in the mountains. The owner was extremely quick to respond to any questions we had.

2021 Cabin Memories

I knew this was the place I wanted to be! We stayed here in 2015 with our grandkids and I looked forward to creating more memories with an additional grandchild, age 7. Success! The owners and manager are great to work with and the cabin, creek, rock fort and property will not disappoint! I can't say enough *good things* about this place! It's peaceful and HAS EVERYTHING you need for creating great family memories! Location is great - far enough from the hustle and bustle, yet close enough to everywhere we wanted to go without spending much time in the car. Thank you Deb and Jim and Jessica for keeping things going!

Hooray for the tree swing!

We had the best time here! I especially enjoyed having my morning coffee on the south side chairs, listening to the water and taking in the view. My daughters loved exploring the rock fort and playing on the tree swing - in fact, they couldn't get enough of the tree swing! They were on the swing so much we wound up only using the hot tub once, but we thoroughly enjoyed it when we did. We saw lots of chipmunks, had visits from some deer several times, and got to see a great horned owl while we were having a campfire. The cabin had everything we needed and was very clean. If you're looking for something to do nearby that's not too crowded, I highly recommend hiking Cheesman Mountain. It felt like we had the whole thing to ourselves and the view is breathtaking. I would also recommend eating at Decker's Corner - the food there was delicious. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Perfect Family Vacation

This was a perfect location for our family of four to relax, unwind and discover all there is to do around the spikes Peak area. Loved the views, & the sound of the creek. Enjoyed our scenic winding drives to activities such as hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, pikes peak, cripple creek & a family wedding in Denver all within 1.5 hrs of the cabin. Saw a variety of wildlife & lots of hummingbirds during our stay. Just a perfect location for our vacation! It was hard to leave!!

Mountain Getaway

The cabin is in a scenic area and is stocked with everything you need. We enjoyed the drive to town and seeing Pike's Peak from a distance. Our kids really enjoyed the property; they played in the rock fort, explored the hills behind the house, fed the horses, said 'hi' to the cows across the street, and generally had a blast.

Beautiful location & cozy home

The house is much bigger/nicer than the photos seem to suggest. It was well stocked (extra trash bags, paper towels, dish soap, etc.) and the furniture was nice. The two bigger beds were really comfortable. The twin beds seemed less so but probably ok for kids. The weird wall paper in the main bathroom was really fun in person! Tromping around the property in the snow was fun followed by warmups in the hot tub and with the gas stove in the kitchen. The Fort was fun to "find" up the hill and there are red rocks to scramble up and of course the stream and ponds. Nice star gazing too. A few things to be aware of: The well water has a bit of a sulfur smell. There is filtered water in the kitchen or bring some bottled water. There are also dirt roads, especially if you come over the hill from Sedalia so take that into consideration. My all wheel drive car was fine in the few inches of snow. Check the weather for Westcreek, CO not Sedalia. I've already booked a return stay.

Property Managers Kept Watch All Weekend

After finding this listing my friends and I were so excited to relax in this beautiful getaway for the weekend. In the listing, it stated that we were able to sleep 8 which was perfect for us. The listing posted said it slept 6, but upon further reading it said that 8 guests were allowed and that there was even beds to accommodate 8. Upon arriving we were impressed with the cabin. On our last day we spent the morning cleaning the cabin and tiding everything back to how we found it. Once we left we were promptly sent a message stating that we broke the rules by having more than 6 people stay at the cabin and that she would be keeping the $150 deposit. This confused us because we had booked this specific location because it was able to host all 8 of us. She also stated that we slept in the pull-out couch and that this was not allowed, even though it is offered as a bed in the information binder located at the cabin. After discussing this she then said she kept the deposit because she had to clean the cabin more than normal. (again, we spent 2 hours before leaving cleaning, washing towels, sweeping and wiping down surfaces). The owner was incredibly rude and condescending when we asked why the deposit was being kept. She also overshared her personal issues with us making us even more uncomfortable when we only sought out an explanation for the deposit. Additionally, in our communications with her, she stated that we had been heard laughing outside at 11pm and that the neighbors were close to calling the sheriff on us. Mind you, we are not a rambunctious group of friends. We were hardly outside past 8pm and remained respectful to the neighbors (whose houses are incredibly far away, the fact that they could hear us at any point is questionable.) She later stated that the neighbors up the hill alerted her that we had more than 6 occupants at the cabin. We were unaware that we were being watched so closely during our stay. We came here to recharge, relax and keep to ourselves. Overall we left feeling uncomfortable and that our privacy had been invaded on. If the listing had been clear about the strict rule of 6 occupants without so many discrepancies in the listing we would have not booked this location. Additionally, the owner also promptly left us a bad review for breaking a rule we did not know existed. This booking was perfect aside from every interaction from the owner.

Why they chose this property

This property has been in the family years. Jim's grandfather purchased this property over 70 years ago when he and the owner couldn't come to an agreement over him fishing in the creek. It was of course private property. He told the owner if he would just sell him some of the property they wouldn't have to have this argument every time he came up to fish. The owner finally agreed to sell him a portion of the acreage and the rest is history. We love sharing the cabin and helping to make a special getaways that will make the kind of memories for others that we have...

What makes this property unique

The location is perfect. The perfect amount of privacy within close proximity to town. However you are away from everything. Our guests have described it as 'A Little Piece of Heaven'. Another called it 'Soothing to the Soul' There are so many things to do within a short distance for those who are active. We have some who barely leave the cabin, just content to soak up nature. Kids love the creek and the stone fort on the hill. Not to mention several tree swings around the property. It has something for everyone, even our furry members of the family.
