About this property

The Lodge - Your Carbondale HQ for Outdoor Fun!

Your newly built (Aug. '20) headquarters for all the recreational opportunities that this justly famous valley offers. Conveniently located mid-valley, this 2,700 sq.ft home will be your home to explore renowned skiing, fishing, cycling, hiking, golfing and more.
Just 12 minutes from downtown Carbondale and 35 min. from both Aspen and Glenwood Springs , this well appointed property awaits you. Located on 17 acres, with views of the entire Elk Range, you can start building memories of a lifetime.

The space
A spacious multi-purpose great room, with kitchen, dining, living and recreation areas provides your family/group a place to prepare for and relive the adventures of the day. Relax in comfort, with ample deluxe leather seating and 65" flat screen TV. The kitchen provides for all your needs with high-end appliances and well stocked supplies. Bar seating and extensive granite surfaces provide spacious meal prep and entertaining opportunities. Rec room with deluxe foosball and activity table will keep you entertained, along with games/cards/etc. provided. Don't forget to bring your fly tying materials. Three comfortable bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms provide the space and privacy you need. Customized storage for skis/snowboards, bikes, fly rods and more keeps you organized and ready to explore all your outdoor options.
You have a full laundry room with separate washer and dryer, folding and hanging/drying space as well as utility sink for your convenience. Outside hose for bike and equipment washing conveniently located.
REMOTE WORKERS/HOME SCHOOLERS Please note the Lodge has both a desk and a folding table for when our guests are not outside playing. If a private workspace is needed they will fit, just, into the Sunset and Sunrise bedrooms. The laundry room with it's long table would also provide a quiet, private work area.
This home is situated on 17 quiet, sage covered acres, with horses, donkeys, goats and llamas grazing nearby. All centrally located within close distance to all gold medal rivers, world renowned ski resorts and gold medal mountain biking (the road cycling on nearly empty roads here is also among the best in Colorado). You can spend years hiking the countless breathtaking mountain trails and never have to repeat. The star gazing through clear mountain air is indescribable.

We are located in Garfield County just minutes from downtown Carbondale and less than 30 minutes from I-70, your enclave in the mountains is easy to get to. Once here this mid-valley location makes the entire valley from Aspen to Glenwood Springs easy to access.

During the snowy months there are great sledding opportunities on the property.

Other things to note:
We know that traveling with pets is a wonderful thing, particularly in the beautiful mountain West. Unfortunately we must maintain a strict no pet policy to protect all future guests (and our family members) who are allergic to cats, dogs, etc. We love all animals, but are afraid we can't make exceptions. So sorry.

We offer a 15% discount for reservations of 7 days or more and 30% discount for reservations of 28 days or more. This discount is automatically applied when you request qualifying lengths of stay.

Please note that we require a cleaning every 2 weeks for long-term stays. This will include a surface clean, linens/towels exchange and can be scheduled at your convenience. The cost will be approximately 1/2 of our regular check-out cleaning fee. This fee will be calculated once booking has been confirmed.

Sorry, we do not allow grills or campfires/propane fireplaces. We love grilling and sitting by a fire as much as anyone, but during these years of drought and in light of the area's terrain/foliage the risks are just too great. The wildfire risk season is very long here in Colorado and understandably Garfield county fire restrictions are very strict. For safety reasons this rule is very important up here on this dry and often windy plateau. Even in the winter there is dry flammable brush scattered across this area, usually exposed above snow. Please also check with Garfield County during non-winter months as there are often prohibitions on smoking outdoors (we do not allow smoking in The Lodge at any time). For updates on outdoor smoking, etc. please see: https://www.garfield-county.com/emergency-management/fire-restrictions/.

Since opening the Lodge in September 2020 we have been listed on both major short-term rental platforms. MULTIPLE ADDITIONAL REVIEWS ARE AVAILABLE ON THE OTHER ONE.

A favorite for sure!!!

Everyone in my family loved this home! We stayed with our 5 children, ranging in age from 20-years-old to 5-years-old, and everyone had plenty of space and plenty to do! The scenery is idyllic, and the hosts make you feel very welcomed. We would love to return to this home and spend more time exploring this beautiful area!

Absolute Perfection

I don't know if a written review will do this property justice, so do yourself a favor and BOOK a STAY! We will certainly be back, Lord-willing. Ted & Julia are the most gracious hosts. The early communication during booking and arrival was personal and incredibly helpful: information about local events, skiing help, hike suggestions, eat-out recommendations -- if there was a question or inquiry, they answered - and did so happily. Ted met us on arrival and spent time welcoming us. Julia stopped by a few days later just to visit and check on us. They are incredibly friendly and kind. The Lodge was amazing. The drop zone/foyer area is the perfect spot to "drop" all of your gear. We happen to be skiing so we would come in, shed our outer-wear, hang it up and let it dry. If you are fishing, hiking, kayaking, biking -- any outdoor adventure -- they have storage and gear drops for all of that, too. The Lodge was immaculately clean and very well- appointed. The furnishings were tasteful and tidy. We loved the wide selection of board games for family game nights. The kitchen has everything you could ever need to cook any meal - and includes high-end appliances that make it fun to cook - if you are so inclined. The beds were crazy-comfortable. Plenty of pillows and cozy blankets and duvets. We cannot recommend The Elk Lodge enough. Oh...and the views! Holy Cow, the views! Ted & Julia have a trail that runs up the hill next to their private residence that gives you the most spectacular view of the Elk Mountain Range - featuring views of several of Colorado's 14ers and the awe-inspiring Mt. Sopris. Ask Ted to point out all of the peaks - he can do it, and give you great information on them. He'll also make sure you don't miss the elk herd that travels through the property often. He sent us texts for the kids with their tracks - just for fun. It was so appreciated. You can tell that Ted & Julia really love hosting. Have I mentioned you should just book your stay? Go enjoy for yourself. You won't be disappointed. We cannot wait to be back.

Almost want to keep this one a secret...

The Lodge is fantastic! Ted and Julia thought of every detail to make our stay the most comfortable we have ever had away from home. The beds were wonderful, adequate seating in both living and dining room, the kitchen was well stocked, and we thoroughly enjoyed the outside seating as well. The area is incredible, one week was too short to explore it all.

Amazing Carbondale Retreat

The Lodge was just what we were looking for. It’s location is amazing for doing anything in the Roaring Fork valley. 30 minutes from Aspen, 20 minutes to Glenwood, and 25 minutes to world class skiing. We liked that the property makes you feel like you are far removed from everything. The house is very clean with modern touches. Our daughters made sledding tracks with sleds provided by Ted and Julia. The house has extremely fast Wi-Fi as we had multiple devices hooked up and never had any issues. Ted and Julia were always a phone call away for anything we needed even if it was just for advice. I can’t wait to stay here in the summer to bike the area!

Carbondale

We had a four day visit for a friends wedding. I was able to rent this place for not much more than a nice hotel and it was so nice. It was completely rebuilt last year and is in immaculate shape. The kitchen was great, linens were great, Smart TV had multiple options to watch, etc. There are three bedrooms upstairs - one of which has double full size bunk beds. The main level is open and spacious. Although we were a small group (3 of us), this house could easily accomodate a much larger house. We were very busy and did not get to meet Ted and Julia until the last day. However, we are hopeful to return and utilize their knowledge of the area. Wonderful hosts!

Exceeded all expectations!

This place exceeded all expectations we had! We traveled West for a friends wedding and brought along our children and my parents. ThIs place had plenty of space for everyone to spread out and yet all feel close enough. The views from the ridge were spectacular and the perfect place to catch the sunrise or sunset. The house was stocked with any and everything you need… even fun games and books too! Ted and Julia were the best hosts and made us feel welcome from the moment we pulled onto the property. We will absolutely enjoy this place again and would recommend them time and time again.

Wedding in Carbondale

The lodge was a great place to stay for our friends’ wedding in Carbondale. Just a short drive from the town and still feel like you get the mountain experience. The lodge was very clean and had all the amenities we needed. Ted and Julia were great at communicating with us, especially prior to our stay given the lack of reception once you get to the lodge. Home Away From Home with Incredible Views

We wanted somewhere close to Snowmass and Aspen that would accommodate our family comfortably, but we got so much more. Julia and Ted were incredibly welcoming. They made sure to let us know they were available for anything we might need and gave us some helpful suggestions and recommendations for our stay. Their house in so beautiful with incredible views. It had everything we could possibly need. We really enjoyed the stocked kitchen and great room for games and movies. Would definitely recommend and look forward to staying here again!

About the host

Hosted by Ted and Julia

Host profile image
We are an active retired couple, who love and explore the outdoors. We have extensive travel experience. This will help us understand your needs and desires while traveling. We've lived in Carbondale since Aug, 2019, having moved from Nashville, TN where we were for 25 yrs. Ted is originally from the NY area and Julia is from England. We've been traveling out west for several decades to pursue recreational excitement. Prior to retirement we surveyed the mountain West and found that the Roaring Fork Valley ticked all the boxes for what we were looking for in our active retirement. It has exceeded all of our expectations. Ted loves to ski, snowshoe, cycle, hike/backpack, fly fish, and is active in his home pottery studio and the local community clay center. Julia enjoys yoga, hiking, snowshoeing, nordic skiing, water color painting, cooking, sewing and reading.

Why they chose this property

The Roaring Fork valley is a recreational and cultural gem. Far enough from major population centers it is served by 4 nearby airports (Aspen, Eagle/Vail, Grand Junction and Gunnison/Montrose) and is protected from the inconveniences associated with crowds. Living the mountain lifestyle is easy, relaxed and picturesque. Conveniently located mid-valley allows you to easily reach nearly limitless options for fun and adventure up and down this uniquely wonderful valley. When home you'll have 17 acres of sage covered space to roam, including a trail to the summit of the property with breathtaking views of Mt. Sopris and the entire Elk Range, including Capitol Peak and the Maroon Bells. Watch for extensive wildlife on and around the property.

What makes this property unique

Our goal is to provide you the perfect base for all of the exciting outdoor and cultural opportunities this unique valley has to offer. We live in a separate house on this large property and look forward to making you feel at home. We'll be here to answer your questions and provide guidance while respecting your privacy.
