The cottage provided an escape from the craziness of the world. The internet was down during our 2-day stay but that was fine with us.
Let me first say that when I arrived I was so pleased! It was better than I hoped. Beaufort is beautiful, the cottage was perfect and the view from the veranda was amazing!!!
However, As I began to settle in, the king bed was made with only two decorative pieces of fabric, 4 pillows and a fitted sheet.
There was no top sheet or blanket. Luckily I had brought ow sheets from home.
Then, I discovered there was no WIFI. Diann streams the TV's with WIFI and ROKU. I had no TV for my entire stay. She said she would take care of it when she returned from her trip 4/12/22.
Saturday morning 4/9/22, I went to get into the shower to find there was no hot water. I called Diann and she told me to check the breaker box.. I did and it was fine. She called later that afternoon to tell me that the propane had not been delivered. and would not be refilled until Monday 4/11/22...my departure day. I told her I could not go until Monday without a shower and she advised me to warm water on the stove and take a sponge bath.
The last straw came Saturday night 4/9/22 when the outside temp dropped to 45 degrees and there was no heat in the house.
NO sheets, NO WIFI, NO hot water and NO heat !!!!!
I have NO words to express my disappointment.
Historical home & previous B&B on a small island community. We stayed in a small apartment of the 1st floor with a water view from the veranda. Plenty of room, quiet & comfortable. Short drive to historical Beaufort & local beaches. We really enjoyed our stay & will return again in the future.
We certainly enjoyed our stay, the location was lovely...however, there were issues too significant not to mention. First, arrival and check-in: we were told that keys would be left in the door to our cottage, they were not. Finding our VRBO host took two separate visits to her adjacent home, ringing the doorbell and knocking on doors and windows. Second: the apartment was clean, although pots and pans were left on the counter and the freezer was so full of frozen items it was difficult to open. Our host claimed some of the items were hers, and most had been left by the previous renters (shouldn't this have been taken cleaned out before our arrival?). Third: Amenities promised or implied on her VRBO webpage didn't exist, or according to the host were no longer available: swimming pool, hot tub/spa, access to boating dock (rather significant amenities!). Fourth: Privacy. The bedroom and bathroom windows had shutters that covered only the bottom half of the window. The top half had no shutter, no curtain, no shades--making it easy to see into the rooms from the outside (we had to balance pillows on top of the shutters to make our rooms more private). Fifth: TV. Of two TV monitors, only the one in the living room worked, and then only with Roku (if you had an account). Sixth: Storage clutter. While we didn't need extra storage space (except for the freezer), both closets were full of personal items being stored there by the host (lamps, lampshades, rolls of fabric, artwork, medical equipment). Beyond these, our interactions with the host were cordial and pleasant. Once we got used to the "issues" we really enjoyed our visit. The view of the river is beautiful and we made a point to enjoy meals on the back porch overlooking the water. More transparency and attention to basic details would go a long way toward justifying the rental charge.
First off when we arrived it was an inconvenience that we were there, no instructions on which property we were renting. No instructions inside the unit, when I did get her to come show us the unit I was told to read the note on the back of the door concerning the dock which belongs to the neighbors because she was tired of having to tell the quests. Then the WiFi was not working my wife went to ask how to access the WiFi she screams out the passcode to my wife and tells her to write it on her arm. My wife try’s to flush the toilet it did not flush at all the handle get stuck up not allowing the flapper to drop and the toilet overflows all over the bathroom. I used the 2 towels we were given for the 3 nights we were suppose to be there to dry up all the water. I tried to get the host to come to the door no luck. I take off to Walmart for more towels and a plunger. Meanwhile my wife get the host to answer the door and proceeded to tell her about the plumbing she was accused of breaking it and was given a plunger and a bucket of rags and was told she doesn’t fix toilets we broke it we had to fix it and bring the bucket back when we finish. I tried to get the toilet to flush properly which it never did. The final straw was when sewer water was flowing up out of the shower and onto the floor. I told the owner we were leaving and I wanted my money back but we were told we caused the problem and I was not going to get my money back she offered us a room in her house but that was not going to happen. This is by far the worst experience we have had thru Vrbo and no doubt the rudest host to deal with, save your money and DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LADY. We left after driving from Rock Hill stayed 4 hrs and drove back home that night. Ruined the anniversary trip.
We planned a short weekend getaway to the Waterfront Cottage in April 2021. We chose the property because it was on the water and dogs were allowed. Upon arriving we called Ms. Diann and she came out promptly and showed us to our cozy home away from home. Our cottage was spacious and well equipped with all the necessities. The living room had a comfy love seat, wicker rocker and chair with ottoman. The kitchen had all the pots, pans, bowls, dishes and silverware needed to cook meals. Also, available were dish towels and soap. We cooked our meals the two night we stayed and breakfast our first morning. The bedroom was very spacious with a king size bed and extra blankets if needed. The bathroom was quite large with a walk-in shower. Towels were also provided for our stay. The private veranda had a great view of the water.
The location was quiet and nice for evening walks with the pup. We saw a dolphin and a school of sting rays both evenings during our stay. It was just a short drive to the Beaufort Waterfront and Hunting Island for day adventures. We would definitely recommend this cozy waterfront cottage if looking for a nice, quiet, relaxing getaway, especially if bringing a furry friend!
It was extremely quiet and nice there. The only thing I would change is it would have been nice to have a coffee pot and microwave in the room. We walked all over the property and it’s gorgeous!
