About this property

Great cabin located in the heart of Mount Lemmon, with lots of shade. The cabin is within walking distance to Summerheaven and a short distance to Ski Valley. This cabin is great for a family of four and has all the amenities you'll need for a great cabin stay. We are pet-friendly. The cabin has two decks to enjoy, and we have very relaxing deck seating available and a comfortable hammock to lay down and enjoy the shade.

This cabin is not called “Stairway to Heaven” for nothing. From the north side of the cabin (road), it will take you 62 steps to the cabin entrance. However, you can drive up the private driveway on the south side of the cabin, which is 32 steps down to the cabin entrance. You have to drive up a hill to get to the private driveway. The hill may seem steep; however, this is the easiest way to get to the cabin's south side/main entrance; a 4x4 or all-wheel-drive car is recomended.

Stairway to Heaven is Perfectly Named

Our stay at Stairway to Heaven was fantastic from start to finish. Francisco was a warm and gracious host and was quick to respond to our questions. We wanted to escape the heat and stay in a cabin in the woods for a few days, and the property exceeded our expectations. The location was serene and peaceful, offering a perfect retreat from the heat of the valley. All we could hear from the cabin's large deck were the sounds of birds, creating an incredibly tranquil atmosphere. The cabin itself was cozy and well-equipped. We highly recommend Stairway to Heaven for anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of Summerhaven and the surrounding area. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Perfect Weekend Getaway

We wanted a quick getaway to start off summer and this was just the place. It was the perfect distance to restaurants and shops but secluded and private. The owner, Francisco, is awesome and communication was a breeze! We’ll definitely be back!

Didn't want to leave.

Sometimes the pictures and description of a property get your hopes up and then when you get there... Not this cabin; it was nestled in right next to the most beautiful trees! The place has so much room, so much character! Everything worked well and we never wanted for anything. Very peaceful and rejuvinating. Stay here!

Secluded cozy cabin

Francisco is a prompt commincator. Easy check in. Watch the video about the fireplace, its a slightly different model, smaller. We couldn't get up to the property with our dodge dart because of unexpected snow. However, its a short walk to the cabin then walk up 65 steps. Beautiful. Complete with propane for outside grill, an outside fireplace with chairs. Inside mini split upstairs and space heaters. Steep staircase to go to the loft. We couldnt depend on the internet because after doing a speed test, we only got 1.5 mbps. We will return definitely! Its only .3 mile walk to restaurantes and shopping!

Wonderful weekend in the woods!

The cabin was exactly what we were looking for and more - a perfect little treehouse escape away from it all. It was stocked with everything we needed plus some. The upstairs bed is so comfortable, we had the best night’s sleep in months! Our pups really enjoyed the doggie bed and we appreciated having the gate built into the deck railing so we didn’t have to worry about restraining them. We will definitely be back!

Nice Stay with Imperfect Outcome

The cabin itself is very bare bones but cute, cozy and sufficient. We are low maintenance people and we loved it. The location is everything. The stairs were hard but he makes that very clear in the listing so we came prepared for that. The cabin was very clean but I will mention that dog hair was everywhere and if you aren’t a dog person be prepared- that was a little uncomfortable but no biggie. There is no sound proofing whatsoever so sleep was rough. The unfortunate outcome was that after our very beautiful stay celebrating our daughter’s 18th birthday I received a text from the host accusing us of breaking their Murphy sofa. This was shocking because it actually hadn’t worked the first night we tried it. I explained this to him but he still charged us an additional $300 to replace it in spite of it being decades old and made of particle board. So that put a damper on our getaway and we won’t be returning as we had planned. Our mistake was obviously in not contacting him the minute we found that it didn’t work but there were multiple small things that didn’t work and we just didn’t mind. If you choose to stay with this host, definitely keep this in mind and report everything and anything that doesn’t work. I should also mention that VRBO handled the situation for us in what I can only describe as the best customer service experience of my life. ☺️

Calm and cool!

They weren't joking about the stairways! However, that is part of the charm - you feel like you are on a little island of peace. My husband and I spent lots of quiet time on the decks, which make you feel as if you're living in a tree house. The cabin is thoughtfully laid out and the bed (in the main floor, we didn't use the loft) is very comfortable. Be aware, this is a cabin so smaller and more rustic, but absolutely charming and homey. Also, it is an easy walk to Summerhaven and several trailheads. I haven't used my car in 5 days! We will be back!

“Stairway to Heaven” is apt name for this mountain cabin

If you don’t like stairs this is not the cabin for you. Tucked on the side of Mt. Lemmon, visitors must hike 62 steps up to the front door or 32 steps down. But once you get there, you will love it. Cozy with everything you need for a week’s visit. Amazing patio with fire pit and great views. Easy walk to hiking trails and shops and restaurants.

No heat in the cabin, just space heaters, very chilly first night. I killed over 10 moths inside the cabin, not sure how they got in. Beautiful scenery, but pricey for having to hall away trash.

Wonderful place to stay.

This is a beautiful location and a lovely cabin. The fireplace was so nice to look at in the cool evenings early April. We really felt like we were one with nature. Summerhaven is a short walk and is great to see. The Stewart Observatory was only an 8 minute drive home to our cabin. Francisco went out of his way to be helpful We really enjoyed our stay.

Escape to Summerhaven

We had an amazing time visiting Mt Lemmon/Summerhaven. The cabin was peaceful and perfect for us. It is easy walking distance to the General Store and a couple options for food. Keep in mind that most everything closes at 5-6pm, so if you want to eat later than this, you need to bring your own supplies. We enjoyed cooking and eating in the cabin. There are lots of great trails nearby and the scenery is beautiful. Would recommend!

We love to visit Mt. Lemmon as much as we can and bought this cabin with the intent to spend more quality time with my family. I did some renovations by adding some new stairs and a family deck. After spending the first couple of months at the cabin, I thought it would be a great idea to share our cabin with families that love the outdoors and Mt. Lemmon as much as we love it.

Why they chose this property

We bought this cabin because it is truly a cabin and not a house. From the first time you walk into the cabin, you get the feel of the mountains. The cabin is surrounded by tons of trees and is very shaded. You can sit back outside and enjoy the mountains, or take a walk to Summerhaven or hit the trails close by.

What makes this property unique

There are two ways to get to the cabin. It's not called the "Stairway to Heaven Cabin", for nothing. You can park on the north end of the cabin, across the street from the bottom of the stairway leading up to the cabin, this is a long way at 62 steps from the bottom of the stairway to entrance of the cabin. It's not a straight walk-up, you have to take your time and take a breather between stair levels.

Then, there is an easy way. Drive about 75 more yards east. You will see a street sign named, "Tanger". At first look, Tanger road looks intimidating because the road looks very steep, but it is not. You don't need a four-wheel-drive car or an all-wheel-drive car, you just need to put your car into low gear and drive up slow. In about 200 yards, you will see two red light reflectors, this is our driveway. The driveway is private and can only be accessed by the renter. You can turn your car around in the driveway. The stairway from the top of the driveway to the deck of the cabin is 32 steps leading south.
