The home is right off the beach on the Sound side of Edisto Beach, where the waves are gentle. We saw lots of horseshoe crabs, some starfish, and found shark's teeth too. The home needs some TLC, but is very comfortable and the layout is great for family time, with the kitchen open to the family/eating area and the bedrooms to either side (2 on either side with a bathroom between). We enjoyed sunset views every night from the back porch and watching the dolphins come and go in the Sound. It was very buggy - we got lots of bites - on the porch and at the beach, so bring bug spray and maybe a fogger for the back porch. The kitchen has lots of cooking tools and dishes too. We loved our time there, except for the bugs.
We had a wonderful weekend. The house was clean spacious. We had to got out and purchase a can opener, there wasn’t one in the kitchen. There still isn’t, we kept the one we purchased. We had plenty of parking and access to the beach was great! A couple of the beds squeaked quite a bit and made it difficult for a couple of us to sleep. Overall it was a relaxing weekend getting together with friends!

Great Location but Older and Needs Work
The Great: Location. House on the beach with fabulous access to beach and amazing sunsets in the evenings. Good proximity to almost all the other island amenities.
The Good: Lots is space. The house has four bedrooms, two adequate bathrooms and a large central room. We had 6 in the house but never felt cramped. There’s a very nice screen porch overlooking the sound. The beds are reasonably comfortable.
The OK: Furnishings and fittings. While some attempts have been made to dress the house up such as newer flooring, light fixtures and bath fixtures, the majority is aged and in need of update. If your looking just to have something adequate to get by for the week, you’ll be fine.
The Challenges: A lot of stuff in need of repair or replacement. The big item: the sliding doors on the ocean side. The doors appear to be original to the home which means they are likely at least 25 years old. The rollers are done meaning opening and closing takes a very hard pull. The last few inches can mean having to push the door open and get up enough momentum to have the weight of the door overcome some significant friction.
Additionally, multiple outlets do not work. They are worn and on a couple the plug in simply falls right back out. None of the outlets in the baths or kitchen are ground fault protected.
There’s a pretty good list of items beyond these, but we took the sign above the fridge which read “this ain’t home, adjust” to heart. It was initially funny. Not so much by the end of the week.
Cleanliness: At our visit, the home was in need of a deep clean. We were very forgiving as our was an off season rental and we presumed the house had stood vacant for quite some time before our arrival. I somewhat lost my faith in that presumption when I opened the house to check the air filters, something I did due to musty smell upon arrival. The back side of the grille was coated in dust from a period considerably longer than the possible period since last rental.
Bottom line: We will find another home to rent next time in Edisto. Our family had a great time despite the challenges as it’s always wonderful to get my mom, my wife and I and our grown children in the same place.
