The Location
Part of the charm of Fern Rock is its secluded mountain setting. We're located off the scenic Rattler (209), which winds along Spring Creek and leads to Hot Springs (30 minutes away). We recommend stocking up on supplies before arriving to fully relax and enjoy the peace of the retreat.

We do our best to provide all the essentials to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and we’re just a phone call away if you need anything. Our local contacts in Hot Springs are also available for support if needed.

Wonderful Family Time in a great place and location
The listing says it all about the solitude and beauty around the property. I found the property to have all of the creature comforts while at the same time being remote and quiet. We had a wonderful family time with all of the comforts of home. The porch around the house coupled with the outdoor screen room and overlook made for some fantastic times outside. In addition the fire pit made for some great family and s’more time. Highly recommend this property. Wes & Leah are great to work with.

Family weekend to memorialize lost relative
This house was the answer to pet prayers. Came up to Hiot Springs to memorialize a family member so we were ready for an emotionally hard weekend but the house and the amenities allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves and the beauty of the property. Great memories made!! Plan on returning in fall to watch the leaves change!!

GREAT MOUNTAIN GETAWAY
WONDERFUL long weekend in the mountains! The property was very well maintained and the house itself was very clean and welcoming. Easy access to town and great hiking trails and kayaking areas. There were 4 adults on this trip, all very active and lovers of the outdoors, and we will definitely be coming back to this property.

Wonderful
This place was amazing! The views were spectacular and we enjoyed just being secluded in the mountains for a weekend. The kitchen was fully stocked which was great because we packed everything up and just cooked in the whole time. The place was very clean. Just be prepared to drive up a mountain for 30 minutes. I get very carsick so that was probably the worst part. I would suggest making sure you have all of your groceries before you get there that way your not having to come back down. We can’t wait to stay here again!

Wonderful cabin!
Our family so enjoyed our visit to Feen Rock! It was the perfect place to get away and relax. We especially enjoyed the treehouse and attached porch. We ate dinner out there more than once. The house is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with all the tools and appliances needed also. We will definitely visit again!

Graduation Getaway
Fern Rock is lovely! Such attention to detail and what a beautiful setting. My son recently graduated from college and our family extended the celebration to Fern Rock. We spent our days hanging out at the property, hiking the Appalachian Trail, river rafting, and exploring nearby Hot Springs. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Second tome back and feel so lucky now that I’ve discovered this gem!
Had a fantastic stay everything was clean and welcoming. If you want to take a breath in the tranquility of the North Carolina mountains, this is the spot. Always a fun and easy trip while staying here to hike up Max Patch and then drive to near by Hot Springs for an afternoon beverage.

Absolutely stunning
Beautiful space. Very comfortable. I'm due for a new mattress in the near future and will be buying the same as they have there. My sister wants the sheets lol My niece and 2 nephews were with us and even with no TV had a blast! Communication with Leah was easy and prompt, prior to and even during our stay. My only regret is we didn't stay longer.

Great family getaway
Nice family getaway- now that all of our extended family adults are vaccinated we wanted a place where we could gather. Very pretty, very remote location. Lots to do around the property with room to spread out. The kids enjoyed the pond, yard games, and campfire time. Youngest kiddos are six, would not be ideal for toddlers.

Beautiful Cabin in Beautiful remote mountain side
Loved the cabin from the pictures, but WOW! It’s better in person. The Cabin sits in a very remote area, about an hour away from Asheville but the drive to and from the city is a pleasant, curvy road with beautiful views. The Cabin was very clean and fully stocked with cups, plates, pots, pans, shampoo, body wash etc. The beds were VERY comfortable and the view from the balcony is breathtaking. The host Leah was very kind and made the entire reservation process a breeze. We will definitely be repeat customers and I will highly recommend this cabin to anyone interested in a quiet, remote mountain get-away.

Hammocks in the tree tops
We absolutely loved our stay at Fern Rock. The home and property are lovely. The cabin feels cozy and rustic yet modern and clean. Just the way you hope. We enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit, and screened porch. Laying in the hammock felt like swinging high in the tree tops. The property is very close to the gorgeous but easy Max Patch hike. We found some good eats at the speciality market in Hot Springs and the Trust General Store. The hosts were kind and responsive. We would happily stay here again.

Amazing mountain cabin with so many private amenities. Our group will definitely be coming back!
From start to finish, the host was very nice and responsive. The Lodge is a beautiful property, and there are many extras that take it to the next level. Plenty of space inside and out. Outdoor pavilion was our favorite, but the hot tub and the 2 fire pits were also great. We had 9 adults during our stay and we had plenty of privacy and space. Everything was thought of to include: every kitchen item you could think of, bathroom extras to help if you forgot something in town, outdoor games/activities ready to go, WiFi and speakers for entertainment, and so on! We loved this trip and will be coming back again in the future.

Wonderful private log home in the mountains
We had an amazing weekend in the mountains. Fern Rock Lodge is a delightful log room in a fantastic setting. We enjoyed just relaxing, sitting in the screened porch and the pond. There is nothing we would change, other than to stay longer!!! This is a place to get some peace and quiet. Everything was exactly as described and Carol was super helpful and provided clear, detailed directions and instructions. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your wonderful home.

Perfect for a Family
We stayed at the main lodge and thought the property was amazing. We never felt like we needed to get off the property. There was plenty to do: Swimming, kayaking, and fishing in the pond; learning archery; hanging out in the pavilion; soaking in the hot tub; going on the scavenger hunt; or finding a quiet place to read a for a little while. We could not have found a better place suited for our family of six. Add on top of that that the views and surrounding area are stunning. We are already talking about coming back in a year or two. When we asked our girls what their favorite part of the vacation was, they could not decide:) Finally, Doug and Carol were amazing hosts. We did not have much need or have many questions, but when we did they were immediately available and were great helps. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, secluded place to have an unhurried, unplugged, and recharging family vacation, we could not recommend this place enough. Thanks Doug and Carol for making this amazing property available.

Log home retreat with a rustic elegance, beautiful simplicity and surprise touches throughout..
We booked our weekend vacation about 6 months ago. It was for my wife and I and our 4 friends. We enjoy good food and good wine, but appreciate quiet and seclusion when we travel. Fern Rock lodge was the perfect choice for all that we wanted for our weekend. From the moment we began the climb up the entry drive in our car we knew we were in for a secluded stay - this was appealing. I always detest when I book a stay somewhere and you can hear noise and conversations form other guests or neighbors. Not here. Once you get your car parked and unloaded, you will notice how pristine and quiet the property seems. All you hear are birds and the stream below. We opened the door to find a neat, spacious and well stocked kitchen for cooking which prepared us for a great foodie weekend with our friends. As each of them arrived, they too commented on the "cool" factor of the cabin we had found. Once we settled and chose our bedrooms, we relaxed in the cozy living area with a gas fireplace. Meals were fantastic on the dining table built for 6 while the kitchen included an island big enough for us all to stand around and eat appetizers and drink wine before dinner. The bathrooms were large and elegant, lots of towels and extra towels for the hot tub. The hot tub was clean, hot and perched on the side of the mountain with great views and open to the night sky. Stars were amazing. Multiple decks and a screen room for buggy nights. We came in February so bugs were not a problem for us. We always have to bring our own recycle bags on vacation, but Carol and Doug (the hosts) already have recycling bins for their guests in a structure close to the house. Nice touch. Master bedroom king bed was one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept on and waking up to the large horizontal windows across from the bed meant that we could look out the window without leaving our warm covers. Beautiful views of the mountains. That was one of my favorite things. All in all, they have created a perfect cabin experience that feels at home in a high end Southern Living or luxury vacation magazine. We will most definitely be back to relive this weekend again. Til next time, Fern Rock.

The mountains of North Carolina have always held a special allure, and from the moment I first experienced their beauty, I knew it was a place I wanted to share with others. Planning a future surrounded by the stunning landscapes of the Blue Ridge Mountains has become a cherished dream. In the meantime, I’ve explored countries in Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean Islands, embracing a passion for adventure along the way.

As the new owner of Fern Rock Mountain Retreat, I'm excited to create a welcoming space where guests can craft their own unforgettable memories, just as I have during my travels.

Why they chose this property

When discovering Fern Rock, it was clear that this property was something special that couldn’t be passed up. As a new owner, I've dedicated myself to preserving the beauty and charm of this retreat, working closely with the wonderful previous owners to ensure that the experiences offered to guests remain at the highest standards they have always provided.

What I enjoy most about this neighborhood is the breathtaking scenery that envelops you in every season. The peaceful ambiance of the surrounding woods, the soothing sounds of nature, and the stunning mountain views create a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Each hike along the trails or moment spent by the pond serves as a reminder of the adventure and tranquility this place offers.

It's my hope that guests embrace this adventure in nature just as much, creating unforgettable memories during their stay at Fern Rock Mountain Retreat!

What makes this property unique

The smell of fresh pine, the view of a mountain range older then the Rockies, and a sky full of infinite stars.
