This was my first time staying on a property with the owner on the property and it worked out great. Frank was accommodating, checked in to see if we needed anything, and was friendly and easy to talk to. I noticed several things he did to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable which were greatly appreciated.
The sleeping arrangements don't allow for a lot of privacy but I think it would be ideal for a family with younger children.
Overall it was a great stay! Thanks for everything!
The property was clean and had all of the essentials necessary for a great stay. The outdoor area/yard is amazing. There is so much room to do all of the fun activities that kids, teens and adults enjoy. We played badminton (we brought our own net and rackets), there is a basketball court which our preschool aged kids rode their bikes on for hours, firepit for roasting marshmallaws and ending the day around, as well as a great dock with place to anchor our boat while we stayed. The sandbar in the middle of the lake is a great hangout spot during the day for all ages.
Frank, the owner is super nice and accomodating. He checked in a few times just to make sure we had everything that we needed and to make sure we weren't running out of anything.
We made some forever family memories and cannot wait to do it all again next Summer.
We stayed at Frank’s place the week of July 4th with our adult kids and grandkids.
Loved the space outdoors with the big tree swing, large porch, fire pit and bball court.
Frank was a kind and responsive host and easy to talk to.
The indoor space is separated from but part of Frank’s house. We cooked most dinners at the house and kitchen was well equipped with nice table for family meals.
The bedrooms and bath and shower are all upstairs with several beds in the first room along with the private bathroom; then you walk through to the master bedroom where the shower is in the bedroom. This worked ok for our week at the lake. Just a different setup.
We enjoyed using the kayaks and canoe as you can’t swim or fish at the shore/dock. Was nice to have this option.
The location is great - not far from several small towns with great shops and restaurants and larger grocery stores and access to the Muskegon River; Less than an hour drive to Lake Michigan beaches.
Their were LOTS of fireworks around the lake to celebrate the holiday, including our hosts own fireworks show!
Pickerel Lake is great. The property is nice in the right circumstance. One commode in a separate room from the shower, which stands alone in the main bedroom. Works great for a couple but additional people could be complicated. You have to walk through one big bedroom with 5-6 beds to get to the the master which contains the shower. The lakefront view is gorgeous but beach is weedy with no swimming at the dock.
Kitchen and den area downstairs very nice as is the outside deck. The stairs going up to the bedrooms would be incredibly difficult for the mobility challenged. The hosts were wonderful and completely non-intrusive even while living in the other half of the structure.
The property was easy to find, not too far from a grocery store. The living room has a beautiful view of the lake. The beds were super comfortable. Five kids ages 8-14 and they all loved the lake and nobody was bored. The owners are super friendly. We spent most of our stay at the home. We went to Stearns beach park. Our friends that live in Big Rapids came to visit during the day. They said it's perfect for a long weekend. The neighbors were friendly. The Swans and ducks were cute. There were a few baby turtles and giant frogs in the lake. The swing was a huge hit with the kids. Kayaking and swimming was fun too.
This is our second time staying here and the second time was even better than the first! The cabin is unbelievably well stocked, clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back. Hopefully sooner rather than later!
Hosts were really friendly. Except for the single bathroom as mentioned in the description, everything was just perfect. The views are amazing and I would definitely visit the place again.
Had a great time at the Pickerel lake cabin! Laura and Frank were great hosts and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed the property. The cabin has plenty of sleeping area upstairs and nice kitchen area downstairs with a washer/dryer. Whether you are on a couple’s weekend or vacationing with the family, you have lots to do nearby. You can spend the day enjoying the lake or visit several towns that are within a short drive. Either way, you are bound to enjoy your time in Newaygo County!
We found this property very convenient to our family’s new home. The view of the lake is beyond outstanding! Only drawback was s safety issue and minor inconvenience. But the owners asked us for feedback, which we will send to them directly. Overall opinion from everyone was we would rent again but be better prepared.
We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the Michigan hospitality. The hosts were very accommodating. The swing and basketball court were a hit with the kids. Fishing is plentiful and although no swimming access right off the property, the sandbar for swimming in the lake is broad and fun. Host made available toddler life jackets and extra kayaks which made the outing great for all of us.
Note. The shower, is in one of the rooms not in the bathroom. Not a problem. Just different.
Perfect location right on the lake. Amazing back yard with plenty of things for the family to do. The house is so cozy and and the beds are extremely comfortable. The home owners are on-site and extremely welcoming and nice. We look forward to staying here again.
Nice location, you're renting part of a house, not the whole house- owners on site but friendly
backyard was beautiful view of the lake, basketball court was fun
there is not a beach for kids- the picture in the listing is of the neighbor's beach
owners of the house will be on site during your stay- the house is divided in half by a wall with a door- can hear talking/tv through the door sometimes
place is very clean, with air conditioning in the rooms for sleeping
overall would definitely stay again, would have liked more disclosure that the owners live in the other half of the house and would be on site, and that the picture of the beach was not on the property we rented. Thanks for a great trip!
Owners are incredibly accommodating and wholesome. Very welcoming stay.
Very nice house open to housing a larger group with an absolutely beautiful view of the water! Great outdoor space with fire pit and and basketball hoop.
We had a great time on Pickerel Lake! The owners are on site and extremely nice and accommodating. We had trouble with the booking because of it being last minute, but Laura worked to make sure it all got figured out. The lake is beautiful and we wished we could've stayed longer. Thanks again!
