This was our third stay at this property. It's a fun experience to stay in such an old home rich with history. I am originally from Dublin so spending a few weeks in one of the town's 'Summer Cottages' is fun. The dock is shared with another family but the family is lovely and it was easy to share, we never felt like we were in each others space. Both our kids (5+7) enjoyed fishing from the dock at night.
My family and I just spent 2 weeks at Skywood and had an amazing time. The "cottage" (I know it was built as a summer cottage, but it is enormous) is tucked back in a private setting and is so spacious. The lake is down the driveway and short walk. Dublin lake is beautiful and clean and we enjoyed so much time watching an adult and juvenile bald eagle off in the trees to the right of the shore area, as well as the resident loons, and a cute merganser family. Mt. Monadnock can be seen if you peek through the trees in the back yard of the property, and the Pumpelly trail is just up the road. We chose the Dublin trail which is very close by also, an annual event for my family. The house was built in the 1880s so its going to have some quirks, but we found it charming and beautiful.
This was our second stay at this property. Communication with the owner and local site manager was very easy and they are quick to respond. The home is a historical property in the town and filled with antiques. It feels very comfortable when you're there. Not like a vacation home rental with no personality. If you don't like spiders and bugs this might not be the home for you ;) it's on a lake in the woods and they do find their way in.... all to be expected but worth mentioning.
An escape in paradise, to relax, gather with family and enjoy!
Skywood was above and beyond our expectations. The setting was sooo New England, colorful, quiet, with the perfect walking and running trails as well as a stunning, clean secluded lake for swimming, boating or just enjoying the spectacular fall colors and view. The house was clean, comfortable and very well supplied with everything you might require. If by chance, you had inclement weather which we did not, there was every book or magazine you might want to discover as well as a piano, if you have that talent. Looking forward to future return trips!

It's not the house in the photos
The house had plenty of room and the kitchen area for space and layout was fantastic for us. The house itself is in severe disrepair and the kitchen supplies were minimal. The pots and pans were old and scratched and looked as if they were purchased in a garage sale, all miss-matched and scratched. There was a lack of towels, paper towels and toilet paper, so we had to buy them. The outdoor porch was a lovely area, but the furniture was old and dirty. They had umbrellas which was nice as it was very hot. No AC, which is ok. If it weren't for the fans they had in the rooms (wish they had more), we couldn't have slept. The windows and doors leading outside from the rooms were painted shut or not easy to open and close for air or they wouldn't stay open without something to put in them to keep them open. We were looking forward to sitting on that porch on the lake in their photos, but there is none. The lake is down the road. False advertising. The house needs a major overhaul and structural work. The paint is peeling and the porches are drooping. But in the end, we made do and had a very fun family time.

The reason we try not to rent places without reviews
Our family of 10 spent two weeks at this country house, which in its heyday was probably quite elegant-traces of that beauty still exist. It is very large with numerous bedrooms on the second and third floors. The photos and descriptions of the rooms and furniture are accurate in size and accommodations. In the kitchen/pantry areas were two full size refrigerators. Dublin Pond is at the end of the long driveway. All of this would have made for a perfect vacation except for the lack of cleanliness and musky/moldy smell everywhere. Rugs, sofas, chairs, etc. needed to be cleaned and a number of items needed repair. Unfortunately there were many window screens with holes, windows that did not have screens and could not be opened and a couple of doors that did not open. The larger balcony was inaccessible because the door would not open. The kitchen pans, baking ware and bowls were only usable after extensive scrubbing. The lack of a welcome book made check-in and check-out a little more difficult than expected.
The local house manager was wonderful and responsive- came out the day of check-in to help with WiFi issues and had a repair person come to fix a broken bedroom window and the floating lake raft.
Growing up in this town I know these summer 'cottages' well. This house is a great example of these homes built in the late 1800's. The home is old and very charming. The property manager was very responsive. We had a lovely stay. Beware with young children at the home... it's probably not ideal for kids under 6. We had to watch our 3 year old very carefully with the antiques ;)
The Host and House Manager were fabulous. We were very happy to have our 5 lb doggie with us😀 , too. We also enjoyed canoeing and hiking. Our favorite was the quietness; it was wonderful. We did not turn on the tv during our 18 day stay 🤗
The only thing that could use updating is the BBQ Grill and the life jackets in the boat house.
Thank you for your home.
Perfect space for family gatherings. A charming 19th century country home with painted wood floors, woven rag rugs, floral bed covers and claw foot tubs. Kitchen very well equipped with spacious eat in/play area and outside terrace. If you are looking for a fully modernized house with built in AC, this is not a good fit. Works well if you appreciate an older home with character, where you can pick from the high blueberry bushes. Great for walking, running or biking around the lake and small village. All bedrooms have fans - not always needed even in July. Bring your kayaks. Big supermarket and CVS 10 mins away in Peterborough.
