About this property

Rustic charm meets modern comfort at Arsulas House

Welcome to Arsula's House Sitting atop Goe Hill. Nestled in a serene location, our short-term rental property offers a peaceful escape with breathtaking views lots of visiting wildlife. Immerse yourself in nature within our well-appointed retreat, featuring modern amenities and comfortable accommodations. Discover the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure. Explore the surrounding area and indulge in outdoor activities during the day, then unwind in our tranquil oasis under the starry night sky. Experience the essence of tranquility at Arsula's House.

A-su-la's house was built by my grandfather nearly 50 odd years ago for my grandmother Arsula. We have updated much but tried to leave the intent and ambiance of the place as Johnny B intended it to be. You will enjoy this spacious quiet home setting on 9 Wooded and well secluded acres for your enjoyment , well away from roads, traffic and neighbors.
You could spend hour on end exploring this place as it has a nice stocked fishing pond (catch and release only), the live spring is just a little walk in the woods, there are large rocks the Indians used for grinding, and it is jam packed with history and nature. There's a 1800's cemetery on the property
.
It sets on top of Goe Hill with a beautiful scenic view overlooking the Stone fort valley. As you look south east across the valley you can see Stone fort bluffs and Tom Dick Hill and the start of the Shawnee national forest. You can visit places like Burden Falls, Bell Smith Springs, Natural Stone Bridge, John Mack Hollow, Buzzards Roost, McCormick Lookout Tower, Trigg Tower, Jack’s Trail Ride, Camp Ondessonk, Cedar Falls, Fern Cliff State Park. I’ve had many hours of fun on the Little Saline River and so much more, all of these just a few minutes away. The Garden of the Gods State Park and Cave in Rock State Park are just a few minutes farther away.

Great place to get away from it all!

House has no visible neighbors but convenient to Garden of Gods and other trails. House has amazing views, 3 bathrooms and lots of big beds for adults. We used wash machine after getting clothes wet and muddy on trail. Kitchen fully stocked for grilling or cooking. Nearest grocery store a bit away so plan to haul in food.

Fantastic home

We needed to get away for a bit and this home was the perfect place. The house is fantastic and it was so quiet there. Just what we needed. We did cut our trip short but that was only due to the weather.

Hilltop getaway

This property is in a quiet, secluded area with plenty of property to explore and enjoy family time. The house is perfectly appointed, very clean and has rustic charm with all the modern amenities. The coffee nook was a nice touch as well. The location is in the middle of all the activities we participated in, hiking, zip lining, swimming, antique shopping and wine tasting. I recommend this house and location for a trip to southern Illinois.

Love this place

We love staying here. Peaceful, quiet, relaxing no one around. We have stayed here twice both times everything was great. Our last trip we discovered the house is only 4 tenths of a mile from a 50 mile bike trail. We will be planning a return trip for late spring

What an amazing place!

We stayed here for a few days while visiting Garden of the Gods and other places in Southern Illinois and Kentucky. Everything was perfection. Such a lovely home and beautiful grounds. Loved the deer that came to visit and we had a visit from a great horned owl. The owners were wonderful and thought of every detail.

Hiking Adventure

Great place to stay if hiking the eastern portion of the Shawnee National Forest. Numerous trails are within easy driving distance, including the popular Garden of the Gods. House was quite comfortable, perfectly clean, and well-equipped for our cooking needs with deer visiting outside the home most mornings and evenings.

Great Stay

The house was the cleanest place we’ve ever rented for short vacation. I was overjoyed that not even a dust bunny or small cobweb to be found. I can’t say enough about how nice this place is to stay. The fact that the wood work inside the house came from their very own sawmill just adds to the appeal. The owner is a great host. We will definitely return again and bring the whole family next time

Great stay

This house was immaculate and comfortable for our weekend. There was unique and beautiful decor throughout and the attention to detail in everything was noticable. We even found 2 ice creams in the freezer, the perfect amount for our kids. I dont know if that was intentional but it sure felt like it. Loved Arsula's house.

Discipleship

We came with another couple to bond together in Christ. The place was clean, well maintained and had all the comforts of home. The host has a sticked coffee bar as well as a few snacks that we enjoyed while windung down from our day.

Amazing stay at arsulas house

Met up with my sister and her family. Large group 11!of us. Stunning property with everything we needed. The kids loved the pond for catch and release fishing. We could lounge by the fire pit while they fished and played. The house was so unique and comfortable with everything we needed. Fred was an awesome host and available for any questions.

House is beautiful

My only problem was the road to the house was in terrible shape. I thought my car would be damaged so I only went 5 mph. Once there house and grounds were very nice.

2020 Deer Season

This property is quiet secluded up on a hill overlooking Stonefort. It made the perfect setting for annual deer season get together. The house was awesome plenty of room and amenities and everything you need to enjoy your stay. Unfortunately we did not get to explore the property much as we were gone before sun up every day and back after sundown. We had a few questions during our stay and the owners responded really quick. We will definitely be back.
