About this property

Charming, secluded, beachfront cottage

Privacy is yours! Our charming beachfront cottage is situated on six acres of undisturbed land near the end of a two-mile pink sand beach. It's perfect for couples seeking solitude or a special honeymoon. The house sits on a sand dune several hundred feet from the waters edge. The only thing between you and the beach are palm trees and a beautifully landscaped path cut through the coconut palms. The all-sand beach has a gradual slope to the water. Great swimming, beach combing, snorkeling and scuba diving are just steps from your back door. Our one bedroom cottage is brightly decorated with many furnishings handmade by local artisans. Rustic terra cotta tiles, a wooden ceiling, and ceiling fans add to the charm. In 2010 we renovated the kitchen, bathroom and exterior with all new windows and doors. Inside and out, this home provides the backdrop for a truly relaxing, tropical island experience! For your comfort we have recently added a full house generator and reverse osmosis system for uninterrupted power and drinking water during your stay.

PERFECT getaway for us! LOVED this house
The property is exactly as listed and much more! The beach was fabulous! We only encountered a few beach goers while we were there. We enjoyed our stay immensely. We loved the bread days at The Farm; we enjoyed spending days at the rental sitting on the beach and relaxing. Highly recommend this property- easy to find, easy to check in and out. Top Notch and Perfect Stay! Thank you!!!!

The Best
This was our third stay at Palms on Double Bay. We love the house, the location, the beach. It’s just perfect for two people that enjoy the privacy and solitude this home offers. The beach is beyond beautiful and pretty much deserted all day every day. The house is so comfortable and has everything we need including everything we need for a day at the beach. It’s centrally located on the island so it’s easy to get out and explore points both south and north. This trip we went to Lighthouse Point (an hours drive) and saw it before it will no longer accessible because of development by Disney. So glad that we did. We spent several windy days at beaches close by on the other side of the island that offered shallow calm waters. We will be back next year!

Second visit
Just like the last time we stayed, we had a great experience. Excellent host communications, property was in much better condition than most Marriotts I stay in. Still secluded, still great swimming and a reef system 50 yards away for current-free snorkeling. Plenty of quiet restaurants within a reasonable drive. Apparently you can't drive all the way down to Lighthouse beach any more because of Disney's construction, but with a beach like Double Bay, there's not much reason to ever leave the property anyway.

Absolutely perfect!
We loved our stay at Palms! The house was perfect- just what we needed. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen is very well stocked. One of our favorite part is the beautiful walk (very short) to the beach. The other favorite part is the beach! 2 miles of pristine beach- all to ourselves 5 out of the 7 day stay. There is a very healthy, gorgeous reef just to the right of “our spot”. We saw lots of rays and nurse sharks, along with a variety of fish of all sizes. We will definitely be back- this was our 5th trip to Eleuthera , we like to stay in different areas each time however…~ Double Bay and Palms is one of our favorites. Ann, the property manager is so helpful~ must visit Island Farm! We will absolutely stay at Palms again! Thank you for a wonderful trip- can’t wait until our return.

Great cottage on Double Bay beach. Very private. Clean, comfortable, well maintained. Perfect get away for a couple. Beautiful beach, just walk down the well kept sandy path and set up your chairs under the first palm tree on your right.

So tranquil
The house, the location, the beach - all were amazing. It was the perfect place to unwind and relax. Everything you could possibly want for a vacation was provided. The house was perfect for 2 people. This is a laid-back kind of place, so if you are looking for nightlife and lots of entertainment, then this is probably not the place for you. But if you want natural beauty with the worlds most tranquil and gorgeous beach do not hesitate. We arrived and only left the property to get supplies. We walked on the beach, sat on the beach, swam and snorkeled for 7 days. 7 days of bliss and tranquility. We can’t wait to return.

Simply the best
I almost hate to leave a review, as I want to keep this gem for ourselves. Honestly, it is a very special place, with wonderful owners who care about their property and it shows. We have traveled extensively and this is the very first time my husband said he wasn't ready to leave. So that is really saying something. Thanks for allowing others the opportunity to share in your piece of paradise.

Even better the second time!
This was a return visit for my husband and I and The Palms and Double Bay were even better than we remembered! The house is so comfortable and we appreciate that everything is in good working order and well organized. The beach is still one of the most stunning and rarely did we see another person. Of course, Island Market is an added bonus! We always buy seafood at Tarpum Bay and eat lunch at Fish Bone and Sunset Grill. The outdoor shower is wonderful, too! Thank you! We will be back!

Last Minute
Due to a Covid quarantine in our original booked property, we had less than a day to scramble and find a replacement, so the stress level was high. Leigh Ann responded to our request in less than an hour, and just like that, the trip was back on. House was immaculate. As in, I felt bad cluttering it up with our stuff immaculate. Money has been spent on it lately, unless it's only a couple years old. Air conditioning works well if you keep the blinds on the sun-facing windows drawn. Fully-stocked large kitchen with plenty of counter space, nice sectional for lounging and a comfy mattress. My focus for finding a house was on the beach and privacy. The original house we had booked was right on a sandy Atlantic beach on a stretch where there were no neighbors for 1/4 mile either way, This location couldn't compete with that, but only barely. The house sits back off of the beach about 100 yards in the middle of a palm tree garden which is just enough to mute the waves to a relaxing background noise. You won't be able to see the water from the house, but neither will you see another house, and the walk to the beach is easy with no stairs involved. Privacy-wise, there are homes dotting the beach at Double Bay, but this estate is at the farthest southern end, and the only house to the south is what I guess the main house. We twice met the same group of four people over the course of nine days, and maybe a half mile down the beach you could see others, so for privacy, it was hard to beat. The beach directly in front of the property is all sand, all the way out to the outer reef...no swim shoes required, and somehow the deep, fine, pink sand never gets hot. Regardless of tide or wind direction, the biggest waves were never more than a couple of feet, and there is literally no current to speak of. You can float forever and still be right in front of the property. If you like snorkeling (which is boring on a flat sand stretch), walk 60 yards to the right, and there is a reef complex that stretches straight out all the way to the outer reef. The deepest I saw was maybe 20 feet to the sea floor, with huge reefs stretching up to within a couple feet of the surface. We saw sharks, turtles, rays, and every type of reef fish...the wildlife was astonishing. With no current, bright sun, and minimal wave action, it was like diving in a densely populated aquarium, so bring your gear. The management was gracious and professional, we'd stay here again gladly.

Staying at the Palms
My wife and I stayed for 6 days (April 26-May 2, 2021) and we loved every aspect of the house - it’s location, relative remoteness and the most gorgeous beach. In 6 days, we did not see anybody else on the beach!! The house was very well equipped and we lacked for nothing. I would suggest that the house was much better than the pictures portrayed.

Paradise on Earth
This was our 6th trip to Eleuthera in the past 8 years. We love the island and it's people. But we REALLY love the island now that we've found "home" there. In the past, we always stay at different properties because we like change and exploration. That has all changed now that we've stayed at the Palms. The property is totally private and secluded and completely manicured. . You can follow the sand path to the "tiki" and loungers and then a short walk to a deserted beach. We rarelly saw anyone on the beach at all. No need for even sandles as the entire path is soft sand. LOVE IT! As for the house........smaller than most we've stayed at , but only in square footage. It is by far the best laid out home full of ammenies and all the things you take for granted at home. All that stuff is there. the kitchen is totally stocked with every utensil , spice, and cookware you'll ever need...even frosty beer mugs. New windows, doors, TV and furniture and spotlessly clean Everything was fresh and bug free. (No seums out at dusk outside...but plenty of bug spray in the house. . We normally spend most of our daylight hours exploring the many treasures on the island, but spent as much time this year staying "put" and reconnecting with ourselves and the natural beauty of this property. We're not looking anywhere else to stay on the island except the "Palms". Thanks again to Tom and Leann for sharing their home and for Clyde and Anne for taking such good care of us and the property. They own the Island Farm minutes away and have the best Cinnamon rolls on planet Earth. Can't wait for our next trip......

Lovely!
We truly loved the Palms as it is aptly named. Spent the first few days navigating the island only to discover that Double Bay was at least as good as any other beach, even for snorkeling, and we could just be "home"! Kitchen was the best supplied I've ever seen in a rental also.

Tranquility
Home is a 1/2 acre in the Mid Atlantic USA on the I-95 corridor so, six acres of palms and flowering shrubs, not another house in sight, private beach path, and starry nights was soothing to say the least. A lullaby it was, yet a close enough drive to food provisions and restaurants. The most people we saw on south Double Bay at any given time was 8. Yes,only 8 and far apart. I just returned home this evening after a weeks stay, but feel like I had a two week visit. If you need to escape the "busy" in your life, this is the place. The cottage is lovely, with a warm neutral decor that lets the quality island artwork shine. It is well and thoughtfully equipped - salad spinner, knife sharpener, food storage containers, very nice pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, pegs for hanging clothes, a supply of beach towels, and solid furnishings indoors and out. Also, it was solidly constructed, doors, windows, porch rails ..solid and well maintained. The house manager is an excellent communicator, truly a professional. Thanks Anne! The only very minor negative is that my boney butt would have enjoyed a chair cushion or a hammock for an outdoor nap. I imagine maintenance of those items isn't easy on an island and again, a very minor point. The most profound memories of this trip are the sounds of surf and rustling of palms, the magnificent night sky and of course, the colors of the daytime sky and water. Palms was the perfect partner for island magic.

Most awesome place to stay!
This was our 5th time to stay at The Palms on Double Bay. We've stayed at many other places on Eleuthera but this place is the best in every category: best beach, best location, best privacy, best vacation house. In other words, this place is the best. The beach is beautiful and if you like to dive - the reefs off the beach are an unending adventure. The house is very comfortable and has everything we ever needed. We'll no doubt be staying there a sixth time!

Dream vacation!
My husband and I loved our week at The Palms on Double Bay! The home is cute and has everything you need for relaxing, cooking, just kicking back. The short walk to our "private beach" was special below the rustling palms and the almost pink sands were perfect for long walks. We visited several other beaches and particularly enjoyed Lighthouse Beach - worth the trip! Island Market had fresh greens and veges and delicious prepared items and the pier at Tarpum Bay had incredible fresh fish. This was the perfect place to unwind, relax and get away! We hope to visit again soon!

Awesome Seclusion
My wife & I have been to The Palms four times in the last 3 years. This has become our special retreat from the world, a place where we can get away & reconnect. You’ll need to rent a car - the cottage is really quite isolated, and as such, it takes a bit to get there - plan on taking your time. The property is very nicely maintained and the owners, Leigh Ann & Tom have everything you might need already in the cottage. There is WiFi, but there is no TV Service. Anne Bethel is their local agent, who cares for & maintains the property; she has been wonderful to us by responding to any questions or needs that may come up. The beach is a 3 minute walk from the house, and is Absolutely Stunning!! Picture: Pink Sand, Turquoise water, Blue Sky, and Green Palms that line the shore... The pictures you see cannot capture the openness & the true colors & the feel of this paradise. There are almost never any others on this beach. It's yours. It's Amazing! We actually have seen some walkers come by - but this is rare. Depending on the direction of the wind, the surf can be anywhere from Dead Flat to Very Rough. If it's rough, you can drive 15 minutes to the Caribbean side of the island, to Ten Bay Beach - a wide, shallow bay that is beautifully calm & warm - Although there are usually a few other folks there. To get to any stores, gas stations, restaurants, shops, etc., you should plan on a 30 minute drive each way - Although Island Farm (Owned by Anne Bethel & family) is closer - 20 minutes or so. Our advice is to stock up on everything at Burroughs Grocery as you pass through Governor's Harbour, so you don't have to go out much thereafter. One Warning - This is a very rural island. On the plus side, there are few tourists or souvenir shops - allowing you to instead interact w/ the local people, who are always friendly & helpful; on the down side Power & WiFi sometimes go out, you need bug spray especially at night, and you won’t find every brand of routine grocery items in stores… but these are minor trade-offs that come with getting off the grid. It’s wonderful and peaceful and secluded, but if you want to be pampered, this in not the place for you. We love it!

Another great trip to The Palms at Double Bay!
Our 3rd trip to The Palms. Always outstanding. The owner is very accommodating and the local representative, Anne Bethel, is very helpful and works hard to be sure your stay is enjoyable. Private, secluded, awesome. On the beach in front of the house every day and rarely saw more than 2 people a day on the entire 2 mile stretch of beach! Best beach on the island in our opinion. We will be back next year!

About the host

Hosted by Leigh Ann

Host profile image
We are from the Chicago area and are a family of six. Tom and I grew up vacationing along the Gulf and Atlantic coast as children. We stayed on a private island in the British West Indies for two weeks after we were married and we fell in love with the natural beauty of the islands. Five years later we visited Eleuthera for the first time and fell in love with Double Bay beach, the island, and the wonderful people of Eleuthera. We bought our first property before we left!

Why they chose this property

During our first trip we traveled the island from Harbor Island to Bannerman Town with never a thought to buy anything here. The first week we had discovered Double Bay and kept going back to 'our' beach. It was quiet, natural, seldom did we see another person on the beach, and we loved the sound of the waves crashing. The second week we found ourselves in the realtors office staring at a map of Double Bay with lots marked off for sale. By the time we left we had our first little piece of paradise! A year later we renovated the make-shift garage on the property to a house, and have been going down several times a year every year since.

What makes this property unique

Thirty + years and 4 children later we still come to our favorite place on earth. In 1995 there were only 2 phones on all of Double Bay, no cell service, and internet was not even available on the island. If you were lucky you had a window air conditioner in the bedroom. Each year we would add something new to the house or property. In 2011 we finished a major house renovation with new windows and doors, a new kitchen, air conditioning throughout the house, and Wi-Fi. It's amazing to think about all the technology improvements in such a short time yet the island is still much the same as it was 20 years ago. The beach is as beautiful as ever, the island really does recover after a major hurricane or two, and the people of Eleuthera still welcome you like family. It's truly been a privilege having this piece of paradise, sharing it with people like you, and most importantly spending days and weeks playing in the sand.
