Annual Men's Ski Trip

We had a great time and the cabin was great. We skied Brighton, Solitude, and Snowbird so the location was great. The hotub needs fixed and the dryer needs to be replaced but we still managed fine even with those minor set backs.

Easy comfortable stay

This is such a pretty house and property! We had friends in for a weekend ski trip and had an amazing time. The cabin is warm and inviting. We loved the fireplace and hot tub. All the essentials are stocked. Short easy drive to brighton and solitude. We would definitely stay here again!

Cozy Cabin Convenient to Cottonwood Ski Resorts

We had a great experience staying here. The cabin is very well located, making it easy to get up to Brighton for snowboarding with family and friends, as well as into the city for dinner. The cabin has a cozy family feel, which was what we were looking for. It’s between a stream and the river, so you’re greeted by the sound of flowing water, which drowns out the main highway noise very well. It was nice being able to cook a meal in the well stocked kitchen and talk around the fireplace at night. We also took advantage of the hot tub in the freezing cold, which was amazing! Overall great experience, definitely recommend.

Charming Cabin up Big Cottonwood Canyon

My family had such an enjoyable time at this cabin. Its location was perfect because you were only a few miles from any hiking or outdoor adventure and then only a few miles to access the city. The river on one side and stream on the other made us feel like we were deep in the mountains. The cabin is spacious and open. Such a great place and the owner was very accommodating and responsive. We want to come back again.

Great host!

We stayed for a weekend to go snowboarding at one of the nearby resorts and it was a beautiful cabin! Also it was great that the owner checked the levels in the hot tub for us and was so delightful to talk to! Will definitely be staying here again maybe in the summer next time to do some hiking at the nearby trails, highly recommend staying here!

Summer in Big Cottonwood Canyon

We had a great time at the Perkin's home. It was a good base for hiking and also for exploring Salt Lake. We enjoyed the sounds of the creek and the feeling of being in nature while still having amenities close by. We had a two and four year old with us, so minding them around the rushing creek was necessary, but it was a lovely property. The Whole Foods nearby had a refill station that fit five gallon jugs, for drinking water.

Quality Time

The property was great, spent a lot of time outside sitting by the stream and the campfire at night. Great location to just unwind and unplug but only a short drive to town if you need anything. The owner was always responsive and attentive to any questions I had.

Great spot to stay for Ski Areas

Nice large cabin on a creek. Hot tub, fireplace, kitchen, baths, etc all worked great. Plenty of towels, garbage bags, etc for a convenient hassle-free stay. Very comfortable spot. Our host Larry gave us all the info we needed for an easy, enjoyable stay. Would stay again for sure.

About the host

Hosted by Larry Perkins

Host profile image
Larry and Gayle have lived in Salt Lake for some 30 years. Larry moved to Salt Lake City after working as an international banker in Australia, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Nigeria, Saudia Arabia, and Greece. He was lucky enough to meet Gayle -- who grew up in Las Vegas, majored in Psychology and Early Childhood Education, co-authored a book titled "Merely Mothering and Other Myths," and whose interests in astronomy and science have enriched the lives of him and many others. They have a blended family with 10 adult children and 19 Grandchildren.

Why they chose this property

A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT! Wake up each morning to the sounds of TWO babbling streams that bracket the cabin! If you're looking to escape the bustle and heat of the valley you can be relaxing next to a stream or nestled up to a warm fireplace in less than 15 minutes from Salt Lake (30 min from Salt Lake International Airport).

Whether you are looking for a perfect ski vacation in the winter, a mountain bike adventure in the summer or just a romantic getaway anytime of year for a few nights, this cabin will be the perfect destination.

What makes this property unique

Sure, you can rent a house or condo in Salt Lake City and then drive to the ski resorts or beautiful mountains or other attractions of this lovely area. But for a Real Vacation, those alternatives are Nothing Like a private cabin (on the river, in the mountains) that is easily accessible but feels like you are in the middle of Nature. Walk out the back door and hike as high as you want to . Or hike up along the stream behind the cabin (you'll have to break your own trail in many sections) several miles to its source at Lake Blanche [alternatively, you can go up the road in front of the cabin for 3 or 4 hundred yards to the main Lake Blanch trailhead -- from which it is about a 3.5 mile hike {one way, with a 2600 foot elevation change} on a well groomed trail to reach Lake Blanche. Beautiful view of Sundial Peak, and access to Lake Lillian and another small lake below Lake Blanche
