What could have been a really enjoyable experience ending up being more frustrating than it needed to be? We booked this property because we were looking for a house with a pool in the Jacksonville area that can accommodate 7 adults and 6 children comfortably for a family gathering. We were tracking the Hurricane Elsa very closely. Fortunately, Elsa passed through Jacksonville on Wednesday. I contacted the owner of the property to make sure someone would be checking on it Wednesday. He reassured me that his staff was on site everyday to feed and care of the animals. As soon as we pulled up to the main houses on the property, we noticed the pool was dark green. I immediately contacted the owner. He blamed the color of the pool on the recent heavy rains from Elsa. When the pool service techs arrived that evening, they told me the source of the problem was related to the pool filter not being cleaned in a long time. The service techs shocked the pool and added a chemical they referred to as acid in the pool . The owner, Payton, tried to convince me that the pool would be safe to swim in after 4 hours. The next morning pool techs added more chemicals to the cloudy pool. Payton, sent me a text saying it would be okay to swim in after noon. Based on my conversation with the pool techs it would not be safe for children to swim in for at least 3 to 4 days. Since we were only staying 3 days, that meant we would not be able to use the pool. I asked Payton for a discount and said that he does not do discounts but would allow us to checkout and receive a full refund. We enlisted VRBO and looked around for options but we could not find anything available. The VRBO rep said we would have to follow their process. VRBO was absolutely no help. So, we ended staying at the Hamptons Farm and figuring out other activities besides the pool for the kiddos. The animals are incredible and such a joy to observe and be around. As for the accommodations, although the pictures look nice. the place is not well managed. The beds are awful and sag in the middle. Many appliances either don't work, are in need of repair, or do not have a nearby electrical outlet. The circuit breaker in the guest house kept tripping. Exterior lights are hanging across the property and plugged in haphazardly into interior grade surge protectors. Finally, if you can't deal with flies, animal poop, animals on your car, or an unscrupulous property owner, DON'T BOOK HERE!
