About this property

Remote Getaway near Woodstock Vermont

Auger Hole is a remote private country getaway on 34 acres with a private pond and a beautiful view of Mt. Ascutney. We are 25 minutes from Woodstock and Queeche, Vermont.

You will love the beautiful, peaceful setting. Great for couples, groups, business travelers, and families with kids, and dog-friendly. This location is perfect for working remotely with high-functioning wifi. The historic Stone Cottage built-in 1825 is what makes the property unique.

Guests will have access to both houses and 34 acres of private land. The main house sleeps four, and the stone cottage sleeps two. The stone cottage has a kitchenette (not a full kitchen, so no oven/stone), a dining room table, a living room, a fireplace, a bathroom, and a queen-sized bed.

Nice Get Away

Great place in a beautiful setting. The kitchen was nicely stocked. There was plenty of wood for the wood burning stove. The internet worked great which was important because this was a working vacation for me.

So peaceful! The historic cottage is beautiful. The kitchen is fully stocked. We were warmed by the wood stove and fireplace.

Far from the madding crowd

A peaceful refuge from the craziness. A comfortable house, well organized and a pleasure to stay at. The only thing I would recommend is that you are comfortable driving on steep narrow unpaved roads to get in and out of the property. We enjoyed our stay very much. We also recommend the Price Chopper in Windsor for groceries.

I didn’t want to leave!

I loved Auger Hole. The houses were comfy for all of us, including the dogs. We were sent to sleep by the sound of Cherokee’s, frogs, and bullfrogs in the pond. The view of Ascutney was marvelous, and the peace and quiet was what we all needed. My kid was able to stay connected on the Wi-Fi while the rest of us took walks, read, or played games. We grilled every night. There are fans in every room, easy instructions to follow, and Alexander was easy to communicate with. We liked it so much we stayed an extra night. Everything you need is there, we just brought ourselves and food. We will definitely return.

Peaceful Two House Getaway !

What an amazing property this was. My family and two dogs spent 5 days at Auger Hole. The property has two houses which were perfect for my family in one house and me and my husband / two dogs in the quaint up to date older house. The dogs spent hours running around the land and loved searching for frogs ! (They definitely didn’t want to come home)! We mainly stayed on the property but loved driving into town for lunch at Brownsville butcher - this is a must go to if you come here.. the store has everything you could need and amazing sandwiches, ice cream and drinks! I truly have nothing bad to say about this rental. If you’re looking for relaxation, nature and stunning views then this is the place for you! My family will definitely be back. Auger hole is truly a beautiful gem!

off the beaten path

Well equipped and comfortable property set about 3 miles back from paved roads on well maintained local roads. A sky full of stars at night and quiet walks are right out the door. Newer house provides a well stocked kitchen and several great reading areas in sunny rooms. Make sure you review check in instructions as there are two houses and, in winter, the location of plowed snow piles can block some walkways.

Gem of a property

We had a wonderful late September stay. The beds were comfortable, the pond and views were spectacular, and the house felt like an actual home rather than a soul-less rental. The kitchen was well-appointed with good quality items that made cooking more enjoyable.

Private and very Vermont

We loved the location as it was super private with not a neighbor in site. Reading is a beautiful town and we are looking forward on returning for a summer time stay. The house had all the amenities needed.

Idyllic Stay in Vermont

The property exceeded my expectations in every way. I visited with my dog, who did not want to return home. It is an amazing property. A bit remote, but not far from Woodstock/Hartland. I would have been fine just watching the sun rise, and then set. There are some beautiful furniture pieces, comfortable beds, and well-stocked kitchen. I hope to return.

Beautiful location!

Very historic property. Beautiful views. Just be aware that there is NO air conditioning in the house. Our first night was very uncomfortable and then luckily the weather cooled right down.

Comfortable, quiet, and beautiful home and property

Spent 10 days at Alex's property in December 2020, with my dog and my partner. We had a truly lovely time. It's a beautiful property, quite isolated and quiet. The woods and fields make for fun walks, and if you're feeling more active, the nearby roads are very lightly traveled. Mt Ascutney is about a 15 minute drive and has a number of fun trails, or skiing in the winter. The house is well appointed, and I'm happy to say that the internet is fast enough to make remote work very possible, even with a heavy video call schedule.
