We really enjoyed our stay at this lake house. We have two young daughters and the lake was perfect for them. They loved jumping from the floating dock and kayaking with their dad. It's very peaceful and we were lucky to see both the northern lights and perseid meteor shower while there in mid-August!
The cottage and lake were so lovely that we opted to stick around and enjoy the lake (swimming and kayaking) and the views (from several decks) more than we had planned. Sunrises and sunsets over the water, dinners at the outside eating area. Exploring the area by foot. Ludington was a convenient (and lovely) day-trip destination, but we truly enjoyed hanging at the cottage. We were 5 women who were able to negotiate the one bathroom and the sleeping arrangements just fine. There truly are some steep steps, but they are navigable. We plan on going back.
Very clean and welcoming! The listing was a little deceiving. There was no AC and there was a lot of seed weed in the lake. Brooke was very responsive to questions and any info she needed to pass along. Very quiet location with the closest town being 15-20 min away.
We had an amazing stay. The house was perfect and had everything you needed. Brooke was very responsive. The neighbors were so friendly. We will definitely be back!
This was a family vacation with our two grown sons. Thank you for sharing your cottage!
The cottage was very clean, and the title “peaceful waterfront retreat” is apt. The lake is large enough to enjoy a lengthy paddle on the provided kayaks (always a bonus!) but small enough that there weren’t too many speedboats or jet skis to spoil the lazy days, especially during the week. The hammock got lots of use, reading and relaxing in the welcome shade.
Both Pentwater and Ludington are about a 25-minute drive, and it’s nice to have two options to explore.
When we did have questions, communication with Brooke was easy and prompt.
Overall we had a very good stay, but we felt a few small additions would take this from a 4+-star to a 5-star stay.
One helpful item that we’ve seen at almost all other rentals we’ve had is a binder/guest book with suggested things to do and places to go, restaurant recommendations, etc, often including maps and brochures.
A broom for the decks would be nice, to clean up the debris from the trees. A bedside table and lamp in the one upstairs bedroom. Some added supplies in the kitchen such as salt and pepper, and measuring spoons.
It would be helpful if the “to do list” before check-out was posted somewhere (maybe on the cottage rules posted on the refrigerator?) rather than texted the night before. We ended up leaving Fri night instead of Sat morning and were just about to lock up when we received them. A texted reminder is great though!
We had an amazing time at the lake. The house is fully stocked and plenty of room for our family of five. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner on the spacious deck overlooking the peaceful lake, swimming in the lake, and relaxing on the hammock. My friend and I enjoyed the kayaks too. We also enjoyed going into Pentwater to swim and enjoy fun times at the go cart/mini golf facility. It was four days of the perfect balance of relaxing, fun, and nature. Brooke was great to work with and very responsive. Would definitely recommend this rental.
I put this trip together for myself, my sister and my two nieces to get away for a few days. This was the first time I had used Vrbo and was completely satisfied.
The house was absolutely perfect for the four of us. It was exactly as advertised, plenty of room and had everything we needed.
Ludington was about 10 - 15 minutes away and offered up a great day trip as well as a Meijer store to pick up the food we needed for meals.
Most of our time was spent relaxing on the deck, in the water on the float mat or sitting down by the water.
The host was great in communicating and very prompt in answering the couple of questions I had.
Highly recommend this listing.
We stayed during the week and we felt like we had the whole lake to ourselves. It was very nice and relaxing.
Brooke was very responsive and easy to work with
Perfect escape of a great private lake away from all the noise. Within easy driving distance of Silver Lake, Ludington etc when we wanted to explore. Owner was accessible and helpful.
My family had a wonderful stay!! Our kiddos loves the lake, enjoyed fishing and the kayaks! The cottage had everything we needed. Brooke was wonderful, quick to answer any questions I had! Looking forward to another stay!
We rented Mon to Thurs. There were only a few people on the lake. Most of the time it was just us and one ither cottage. Very quite. No A/C but plenty of fans. We didn't need either. Beach was very nice. Closet grocery is Meijer in Ludington. 3 tier deck 40 stair steps to the beach. Good exercise. Kids liked the kayaks. Canoe is light and unstable (in the wind) for just one person.
This property is beautiful and feels like home. The use of kayaks and canoe added a lot to the trip. Situated between lovely neighbors as well. Highly recommend.
My wife's birthday weekend. Lovely Lost Lake high view. A lot of stairs down to the water, but doable. A little treacherous when carrying wood to the fire pit, which we used two nights. Saw blue herons often and bald eagles a couple times. Nice little house, only one bathroom, but we made it work. Used the hammock on the middle deck, too, as well as the grill. Would recommend.
Perfect spot for a small family vacation on a small, secluded lake. There were times we were the only people in the lake. Kayaks were awesome, kids loved the jump pad. House was on the smaller side, but the 3-tiered deck was amazing. Beds were comfortable. Would recommend.
My Family had an amazing experience at the cottage on Lost Lake! The home was clean, Perfect size for our family of five, and the Lake was crystal clear and Perfect for swimming and lounging! We were worried about not having air conditioning in July, but the owners had plenty of fans, and we took night swims before bed to cool off! We had everything we needed for cooking, cleaning, and keeping the kids busy! The canoe was fun, and the floating raft was a hit with the kids. My only suggestion is to bring a couple baby gates from home to block the little ones from going up and down the indoor stairs and to keep them on the upper deck when you are prepping dinner and don't want them traveling down to the lake without you! We managed with my 2 year old, but next time we will be better prepared with gates :) This was literally our favorite vacation ever!!! We drove about 20 minutes to Stearns Beach and walked along the Marina in Ludington before dinner! If you want a relaxing, fun vacation from home without the crowds and chaos....this is the perfect gem!!
Our kids LOVED the beach access. The shallow beach was seaweed/sea grass free which was perfect for them. The beds were super comfortable. The toilet had a weak flush which presented a problem for a family with kids (can be a common issue with lake houses). The stairs and shower were a bit challenging for my tall husband (6’3”) but he said he’d happily stay again. And the kids didn’t want to leave…..of course!
My family of 4 recently stayed here for a week. The lake was surprisingly quiet and our stay was very relaxing. The first two days we were there my 18mo daughter would look out the back window and say "wow". We were able to take our boat, take out the kayaks and swim in front of the house. We enjoyed our stay very much and would come back again.
House was clean. View & location is amazing on the lake. Kids said they enjoyed the lake, kayaking but mainly swimming. Communication was clear & precise. I would definitely recommend this house and location for your next family stay. Or couples get away.
