First, the things that were good:
The rooms were clean, there were nice, warm cotton sheets on the beds, and there was plenty of room for an air mattress for my teen. There was room in the fridge and freezer for all of our food that was left that we had brought for our four-day trip. Both showers were clean and it was nice that there were en-suite bathrooms for each bedroom. It was super handy that we could drive our van into the long garage and unload everything close to the back door. Having a 4wd van makes it taller and it usually doesn't fit into the average garage.
I want to be honest, so I will tell the things that surprised me. First, there was personal clothing in the dressers and closet. I had seen food in the refrigerator, freezer, and cupboards, which was strange (two partial loaves of bread for one thing), but sometimes food is left for people staying at a B n B. I had to rearrange all that food so that we could keep ours separate on its own shelves. But clothing? Is this their personal house? That was not stated in the listing. I was not thrilled that the owner contacted me shortly before we came and said he would be staying in his camper in the driveway. When I tried to lock the doors, they didn't seem to lock. I ended up putting the kitchen chairs under the door handles. Then the windows would not lock. Being Halloween night, I wanted to be sure no pranks could happen. It took me several tries to get those windows locked. Also, there was no code for the wifi and I had been told that the owner goes to bed early. I sent a message that I was unhappy at not having the wifi access I expected. To my surprise, I got an answer even though this was now late at night. After trying the code several times, I messaged that I was giving up. Then he sent me two more codes to try. One worked, praise the Lord. This all kept me up for an extra two hours! Being a widow with three daughters to protect on this trip makes me feel the need to be a safe as possible. Hopefully, this new B n B host will learn from all of this and keep improving.
