location is everything
I gave this place 5 stars because for myself and my family, it was perfect. We are not bougie type of people-the most important things to us are: 1. We can bring our dogs. For a pet friendly accommodation, it was super clean 2. We wanted to stay in the mountains, close to Black Mountain, be near a creek. All of those things are at this place. Our absolute favorite part is all of the trails to the creek. I could have stayed forever! Downtown Black Mountain and a grocery store is only about 15 minutes away on a beautiful mountain drive. If you are wanting a place with lots of personality or decorations, this house is not it. However, if you want a super clean house in a great location, def book this place. Some things I would recommend changing are: 1. Gas grill igniter did not work. 2. The bed on the second floor is awful. 3. The mantel needs to be sanded down. 4. The hot tub is for one person only 5. The eyes on the stove top are not even so it is hard to cook on. Also, the pans are not great so make sure that you cook low and slow or otherwise, the pans will burn. But, again...you absolutely can not beat the location and the beauty of the creek and the mountains. I would definitely rent it again.

Choppy rooms/small bed
The situation in this cabin is that the bed in main level, not adequate for 2 ppl, nor for one; it’s a full size bed, not very good mattress, very hard. My husband and I ended up taking this bedroom bc I thought (my mistake) that a sofa converted into a bed for a teen that was staying with us. So we let my sister and teen son sleep on the bigger bed(queen size). There are very steep stairs for every room in this cabin, not a fun thing to do. The sofas were all very stiff and hard to sit on to watch tv. Didn’t like the fact that part of the check out process was, they requested us to “start” washing their linens , so we had to throw a load of their washer 😟. The internet reception is horrible, if you are making online reservations or checking on an important email, etc, good luck, bc no good connection. Tv room is in lower lever, so if you are having drinks and snacks, you must go back and forth to the upstairs floor where the kitchen is, If you get lured by the “free biltmore pass” good luck with that bc it fills up very fast, and if you have other family or friends with you, chances are you won’t be able to get in. Overall, not a cabin I recommend, I don’t like to go on vacation and spend 1 hour cleaning and starting laundry when they are charging me for cleaning services.

Carolina Mornings Black Bear Cabin
We loved Black Bear Cabin! It’s not too far from Asheville and is surrounded by beautiful trees and a creek. We especially enjoyed the wraparound porch and hot tub! The only thing we wish we had known is that there are multiple flights of stairs.

Although the cabin overall was nice, the area was private and secluded, this was not a good place to be. First of all, the owners fought with us about refunding our costs since the cabin didn't have any working internet or any Working cable access. The yard was a mess where it had been dug up the day before, with wet soggy hay lain down. The office called me while we were on our way to the cabin and told me the internet was completely out, but they didn't mention the tv's were out too. I have a son with special needs and a husband who has a Traumatic brain injury and both need to be kept occupied most of the time. Also, the description didn't clearly state there are three levels of stairs you have to traverse up and down, which made it very difficult for my son and husband.

The property was adequate and stocked well. It could use some touch ups but was overall comfortable. We didn’t like that the wooden bridge to the property had quite a few rotting boards with holes large enough to put your foot through.

Exactly what we needed
The house is in a great location. Beautiful views from the porch and the sound of the nearby stream was very relaxing. Great place for dogs. The kitchen is on the small side and proved challenging for 2 adults to maneuver while cooking. You must also like stairs. There are several on the property. I agree with other people that the basement heater cannot keep up in the winter. It was in the low 20s two nights we were there and I had to sleep in thermals and clothing. Great location if you want to do some hiking or go see chimney rock.

Not exactly as advertised.
Location perfect and private. Views and short hike opportunities very nice. But there were many issues with the cabin. Bellow is the detailed email sent to rental company. 1. Walked into dog hair on the dining table and throughout the cabin (pet friendly shouldn’t have evidence of other pets). Stove burner drip pans caked with burned-on cooking residue. The first few times we used them the kitchen fill up with smoke. Pot holders filthy and all bathroom wash cloths were dingy and looked dirty. Some of the bathroom towels stained. Overall the cleanliness of the cabin was not acceptable, especially during the time of COVID nor was the housekeeping standard as advertised. I re-cleaned every surface with Lysol and Clorox wipes I brought myself. 2. When we arrived we found the following items broken or in need of attention. a. Broken - large drinking glass, pie server, corkscrew, drawer in nightstand in MB. b. Needs attention: garbage disposal sink stopped up after three days, drain in shower in MB bath drains very slow, heater in lower level totally insufficient (so unbearably cold we could hardly use the room), trash can lids blown off when we got there and had to hunt for them. Trash cans not bear proof so we had to accumulate trash in washer dryer room. Two trash cans not sufficient for extended stay. 3. Recommendations - My husband wanted a tv in the main living area, but I was glad there wasn’t one. It is a small but pleasant space and the noise would have traveled to the MB (no door in loft). If there was a fireplace downstairs as efficient as the one upstairs, the tv watchers would have been comfortable downstairs. It would have been great to have a smart TV and/or supplied an HDMI cable so we could have watched the downloaded movies we brought. Good thing we brought games and cards, the one game in unit would have gotten very old quickly. For the price we paid, the quality of the unit and the amities at the cabin should have been much better.

Great for a young family with fur babies
The location was ideal for us as we were able to visit the biltmore, Asheville, black mountain town, chimney rock and lake lure all with ease. The layout of the house was also perfect for us as we had our 9 month old son and 2 dogs with us. We were able to set our son up in the guest room to sleep and go down to the basement to watch tv, go in the hot tub, etc without fear of waking him. This home has a fully fenced in area for dogs which was so helpful! They provide plenty of towels, soaps and other starters, that we used and appreciated. We enjoyed our stay and this home was great for us given our current phase of life however, just know that there are absolutely no frills about this one. The couch in the basement does have a bit of a smell to it but we just put towels on it before we sat down. There isn’t a dish washer. We also had a bit of an incident when the power went out one night due to no fault at all of the rental company, but I would like to suggest that the company invest in some flashlights, matches and candles for this house in case a power outage were to happen again. The rental company was great about getting back to me when I called them but there really wasn’t anything they could do to help. We fortunately had a flash light in the car that we were able to grab but it would be nice to have emergency supplies at the house for future renters. Some of the items in the kitchen are no longer usable such as the broken wine opener and blender that’s missing its top. Maybe a quick inventory of the kitchen supplies would be beneficial. Lastly, the toilets are slow to flush so just be careful with how much paper you put in them. There is a plunger available but I personally wasn’t thrilled about having to use it on our family vacation. So overall, we were very happy with the location and layout and really enjoyed our trip but I just wanted to be transparent on some of the shortfalls so future renters aren’t disappointed. Ps. The neighbors down the road, Deb and Don are phenomenal and really added to the fond memories that we made!!

The house was just as it was listed, clean with beautiful views. Unfortunately one of the pipes busted while we were there and they had a plumber come fix it within a few hours. Perfect location right across the street from a running creek where we could explore and fish! Highly recommend for anyone who loves the mountains!

Great Getaway near Black Mountain and Asheville!
This is a perfect escape from the bustle of the suburbs, yet close enough to Asheville's offerings. Our dogs love coming here and walking along the creek as we love sitting off the deck hearing the water. The three different levels is great for family to spread out but still be near one another. Very clean and nicely furnished. Can't wait until we can come again. Thanks again for a wonderful getaway at Black Bear.
