The Red Wall Castle was a delightful and magical place for our family getaway. The old structure was comfortable for the stay and met all our logistical needs. Additionally, the interest of staying in a castle-like building of such history was an excellent addition to the experience. We had a large group of people ages 13-55 and everyone expressed great satisfaction at the amenities as well as the curiosities (secret doors/rooms, narrow service stairs at the back of the house, and the grounds, etc.). After this stay, we all agreed that we want to build more experiences like this into the family calendar each year.
Great experience at a one of a kind property. No regrets and would stay there again. Not a cookie cutter homogenized experience but an eclectic welcoming place to be with family!
Everything was amazing except the air conditioning. It was a hot weekend and the house never really seemed to cool down until very late at night. Other then that, the grounds were amazing, this castle is a gem!
The house was great! It was exactly as described. It was well equipt and the outside area was a great place to gather. I would recommend this property to anyone. Jim was a pleasure to work with which made the whole experience even better.
We truly enjoyed our stay at this awesomely appointed, comfortable and cool castle! We have absolutely no complaints! Jim is a great, responsive host who made it easy for us to enjoy the time. The movie theater space was a gem to checkout. We look forward to returning in the future!
The place is amazing and unique. Jim is an amazing host. He had welcomed us with fresh cherries. We had stayed there for my wedding week so we had guests coming over.. Everyone loved the place. I highly recommend the place if you have a large group
We chose this location to host a baby shower with several out of town guests. The space worked well for the shower. This only issue with the location is it is not suitable for handicapped or elderly. It is 3 stories with very narrow staircases and there is no bathroom on the main floor. Other than that it suited our needs well.
Great Property - just a little hot in the peak of Summer
Beautiful property and the house was a super cool place to host several guys for the weekend. When you went inside, there were several cool things in the house. Only two criticisms are (1) that it was relatively hot in the house. We did stay in the summer (temp was in the 90s all weekend), but I was still surprised how hot it was in the property... There were some fans inside, which did help a little, but I would have probably liked to have had more of a warning about that. (2) I think this is just a consequence of Vrbos, but I was surprised by some of the house rules... I think this is more of a criticism against Vrbo, but I'd think that it'd be nice to see the house rules before renting properties... I personally didn't think the rules were too bad, but some of the guests with me didn't love some of the rules.
I'd honestly visit again in the Spring/Fall. But the location is pretty great because you're right near Frederick, MD and Rockville, MD. We still had a good time!
Comfortable house in suburban Maryland, not far from DC. Comfortable living room and multiple bedrooms. Even though the neighborhood consists of newer track townhomes, the house is located on a large tree-lined property that insures privacy and attractive views. Kitchen has plenty of dishware, but is a little small and sparse, but adequate for use if you bring your own pots, pans, and implements.
If you are looking for a place with a historical feeling this will meet your needs. It was large enough for all of us to be together but have our own space. The only thing to be aware of is the bathrooms and bedrooms are located on the second and third floor so you will have to climb stairs. Jim was available and answered our questions quickly. He brought over some fruit for our group from his garden. It was very quiet and you will see wildlife in the yard but close to anything you may need.
First off the host Jim is very Accommodating and dropped off lettuce and tomatoes from his garden on the property for our family grill out.
The Castle is so cool and so many places to explore within. We had a group of 10 and was perfect size for our group. We had coffee and breakfast on the front porch every morning which was a great way to start each day.
Highly recommend this Castle!!!
This castle was everything we had hoped for. The property was beautiful and pristine, the house was fun and corky and Jim the host was very kind. His wife even brought us over fresh lettuce, blueberries and mulberries straight from their garden. We are from the west coast so the fireflies at night roaming the hundred foot trees on the property was a real treat. We we even created by some dear cruising through multiple times a day. Jim was a great host and we would definitely recommend booking this site for a large family getaway.
This unique castle was the best place to host a masquerade murder mystery party for my 14 year old. The kids had a blast and loved the house, especially the "secret" stairs. I recommend this property if you're looking for something different and unique.
My family and I spent a wonderful weekend here celebrating the upcoming birth of our child. Our guest LOVED the venue with some saying they can't wait to use it themselves. Thank you for the hospitality!
We gathered at the Castle for the first time since the Covid pandemic started to re-create our Thanksgiving celebration at this special property. The kitchen was a bit small but still workable but it was a great place to have our wonderful sit down meal for 16. The home was quirky which made it so much more interesting for our guests.
This property is amazing, if felt like being a part of history. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. I never imagined such a peaceful place wold be in that area. I cannot recommend it enough. It had more than enough space for the few people we had there, and it is super photogenic. 10 out of 10 would rent again.
Wow! This place was truly amazing! It can accommodate a whole family and it was a breeze to rent with the property owner who is kind, responsive, and accommodating.
It is in a beautiful location and the rooms are comfortable and the amenities are wonderful.
This was a perfect location for all of my family members to stay as we gathered for my wedding weekend. Thank you to the property owner for helping us! We have long lasting and heartfelt memories as a result!
