About this property

Fivespot Cabin, Art and Nature Lover's Retreat, 15 Min to Sequoia-Kings Canyon

Quiet, cozy, inspiring, art-filled: Fivespot is a relaxing destination for a week or weekend, perfect for couples or small families. Enjoy the books, the sauna and outdoor shower, the claw-foot bathtub, the fireplace, and lots of cozy pillows and throws.

Stretch out and do something creative! Add something to the chalkboard wall, or stroll to the hilltop behind the cabin and sketch the surrounding foothills. Several painters and writers have already used Fivespot as a personal artistic retreat.

There's comfort and convenience: a covered stone patio, gas bbq, kitchen with all the trimmings, and lots of outdoor space means you can cook and dine inside or out. New in 2024: free Level 1 EV charging from a dedicated outdoor plug.

Year-round comfort and fun at Fivespot:
Summer is the high season in the Sierras, for good reason: the sun shines from June through October. Hiking trails are open, wildlife and wildflowers abound. But we locals enjoy the fall, winter, and spring even more: sun gives way to rain and snow, life quiets down, time to rest and renew. Fivespot is perfect for an off-season retreat. The road to the cabin is kept cleared of snow, and the road into the Parks is accessible if you have 4-wheel drive or chains (we can help you with that). The fireplace and sauna keep you cozy; you've got time to think, write, read, or just relax. It's a delightful time of year - please consider a visit!

Winter activities at and around Fivespot:
Winter is never far from Fivespot: at 4000' elevation, we get at least one substantial storm each year. If you are lucky enough to be here at the perfect moment, you can snowshoe right out the back door. But the cabin is also perfectly situated for near-certain winter adventures - it's just a 15 minute drive to the entrance of Kings Canyon National Park, where sequoias are blanketed in deep snow all winter. And Fivespot is located on a well-maintained state road, so getting here is easy. Snow play, snow shoeing, and cross-country skiing are these Parks' best winter activities.

Cozy Canin
This cabin is so cozy and homey. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean, and the kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans/utensils to cook easily. Mahalia was very responsive and helpful if there were any questions or concerns during our stay. The sauna was a nice added bonus as well as being able to walk out back and look up at the stars at night. We enjoyed the quiet, seclusion this cabin provided and had no issues getting to and from the national parks to explore during the day. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

An art and nature lover’s retreatt
It is a very comfortable and relaxing home. A throwback to when life was slower, a quiet and peaceful setting surrounded by the nature of a Mediterranean climate and rural landscape. We enjoyed seeing quail, turkeys, hummingbirds, and woodpeckers from the patio and the fresh flowers on the tables. All the thoughtful touches of the owners,

This cabin was magical for me. It was so comfortable, peaceful, and unique. It has everything you can want in the kitchen and bathroom. The bed was comfortable. We loved that you had extra fans and we used them. We loved all of the special artisan and craftsman touches. We spent time both on the front porch and the back porch. It was just serene. It was fairly close to the park entrances. The hosts were very approachable and friendly and helped when we needed them. I would love to come back.

Perfect cabin for Kings and Sequioa
We adored this cabin. The location to the parks was great and it was so quiet. We loved starting the day on the front porch watching the birds and animals. The owners have thought of EVERYTHING. The large iron clawed tub was amazing at the end of a day of hiking too. Plenty of room for my boyfriend and I, but definitely a lot of room for other people too. I can't speak highly enough of our experience at this property! Definitely follow the instructions of getting groceries before coming up the mountain though. The closest "grocery" is an overpriced mini mart with no fresh options. The included instructions tell you the best places to stop!

Amazing and cute cabin!
Everything about this property was beyond expectations. From the friendliness and kindness of the host to the location being so close to King's Canyon and Sequoia National Park, to the adorable field of wildflowers, and cozy, clean, and adorable cabin. The fully functional kitchen, bathroom with clawfoot tub, and sauna were extra perks! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet retreat in nature.

Charming cabin in the forest!
Communication and instructions excellent from Mahalia. Cabin clean, well-stocked, very cozy and comfortable. Private and quiet. The swamp cooler worked amazingly well to keep things cool. No TV, but decent wifi. Great access to the parks. Thanks for access to washer and dryer! Would definitely stay again.

Cozy well kept up 1 bedroom in the woods. This place was a perfect little 1 bedroom, nice and clean. Very close to the entrance of the Sequoia/Kings Canyon Park. Loved the sauna after a long day hiking, and you can walk to the Pinehurst Lodge restaurant for some great burgers and cheesecake from the house. There were only 2 of us, but it would be great for a family of 4-5 people. Highly recommend.

What a unique and fun and overall beautiful property. A perfect little house for a small family or couple just trying to get away. The back yard was filled with gorgeous wildflowers and splendid views. The perfect environment to start the day. The house is just a short drive to the National Parks allowing for very easy access to maximize time in those magical areas. The sauna was an added bonus after long days of hiking in the wilderness. Overall this is a very special and amazing place to stay. Would book this place again in a heartbeat.

Perfect base for exploring Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Parks
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay in this artsy cabin, just minutes away from the national park entrance. We enjoyed dinners on the front porch and coffee on the back patio. We were fortunate to find the 5-spot flowers in bloom and the hummingbirds frequently feeding at the honeysuckle bush by the outdoor shower. The kitchen was well stocked and included various herbs for cooking. The only thing it needed was brighter lights so I could see better while I cooked dinner. The outdoor sauna and shower looked inviting if only the temps had been cooler. We closed the windows before we left the cabin each day so the inside was comfortable when we got back in the evening. There is a swamp cooler available, but we didn't use it. The owner is flexible with check-in & out times. I highly recommend this property to everyone.

Cozy Pinehurst Cabin
We had a wonderful stay at the five spot cabin! The cabin looks even better in person than the pictures. It is close to the Cat Haven and Sequoia Park. We were greeted with fresh cut flowers the day we arrived ! Thank you! Our family had a wonderful stay, and cannot say enough good things about this little cabin. It is quiet. We saw wild turkeys two of the days. The cabin was clean and supplied with all of the essential items including laundry soap, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, some spices, some food items and condiments. There was wood for the fireplace and propane for the grill. The kitchen has all of the basic items for cooking and eating in.The beds are comfortable. There are plenty of warm blankets. The claw foot tub is awesome. We appreciated the owners detailed book about the cabin and where to find the wood, propane for the grill and how to operate the heaters, sofa bed and the hot water for washing. Our 7 year old loved the few toys to play with. I appreciated the safety rail and sturdiness of the bunk bed. There is a high chair and a portable crib for the little ones. One of our favorite places we've gotten to stay for our yearly trip and we would love to stay again! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Birthday Weekend
My Girl set this up for me for my 40th birthday...when we pulled up to the cabin I caught a glimpse of the daffodils poking through the snow...being from the eastcoast this was a heart warming sight because it reminds me that spring is coming! My Girl set it up with the owner that we would be there very early as long as they didn't have anyone staying the night before...we arrived at the cabin Thursday morning unloaded the car that My Girl packed while I was still asleep in bed...coming from Orange County, CA we left at 2am in the morning! We walked in the cabin and it was very adorable...with splashes of color coming from the chalkboard in the kitchen...the walls...and the strange but delightful mixture of tchotchkes (for the non east coasters means a large collection of trinkets-not always valuable except to the collector) My favorite a plastic lizard lady with a pink bathing suit on...and a brown gummy yak! My Girl made breakfast that morning...and we used the kitchen everyday we are not big on eating out! We spent 3 full days there and left early Saturday morning! It was beautiful there...the cabin is a perfect comfy little place...with lots to look at...and the sauna gets rave reviews! We loved escaping the city and staring at lots and lots of cows...birds...and huge trees...It snowed and snowed there and was a winter wonderland paradise...the area is used to the snow and keeps the roads nice and plowed as much as they can! The cabin and the beautiful sights around us was worth turning 40 for! The blazing fire...the sauna...the beautiful bathroom...the no television...the daffodils...and the beautiful sights with the big trees...and being able to eat every meal at the cabin were all a perfect birthday surprise! I highly recommend this place...in fact we are going to try and make it up again in the summer! On a side note...the cabin is SPOTLESSLY CLEAN! They also have so many amenities...laundry room...sauna...full kitchen...beautiful grounds...and lots and lots of games...this place is all about the details- and none were missed when the owners put it all together! Interesting artwork on the walls looks like wood carved block printings...bot sure...but fun to look at especially the piece over the couch! Also the materials provided in the book were great...and really helpful...sorry to future guests we realized when we got home we have the park map and a book with things to do we accidently brought home! SORRY! The only place to stay there!

Lovely Property!
We stayed here while visiting Kings Canyon & Sequoia -- the property is 15 minutes away from the entrance. We loved the decor of the home -- lots of great art and 2 nice patios. A plus is that the owners are onsite and easily accessible (but they're not intrusive).

Great Sequoia/Kings Canyon retreat!
As advertised property! Family of five w/3 teen girls enjoyed this stay! Very clean and well stocked, thank you. Outdoor shower made getting cleaned up after a day of hiking a quicker process. Enjoyed the covered porch and patio morning and night! Was in the upper 80’s low 90’s and the Swamp Cooler had no problems making it feel great in the cabin!! Much wildlife around the cabin to watch. Would definitely recommend a stay!! Thanks Again!

Perfect Getaway
We were welcomed by Mahalia, she was very pleasant. We had an awesome time celebrating my birthday. The cabin was the perfect getaway. It had everything that we could think of and more. The kitchen also had a refrigerator, microwave and stove. Everywhere we looked had dainty details and books. We woke up to turkey's gobbling and bluejays. We will definitely be coming back soon, next time with the entire family. It was a dream come true

Amazing Family time
If you are looking for family place to stay, Fivespot is for you!!!! Cabin is well taking care of by owners! It’s super clean, well stocked, comfortable and it’s a great location to King Canyon and Sequoia Nationals Parks! It’s in a quiet neighborhood, so you get well rested after day of climbing and hiking! Kids can run around in a huge backyard, climb couple old trees, gather pine cones and just roll in grass!!! There are wild turkeys that come around pretty frequently and kids will have tons of fun watching those! Sauna is amazing and you can relax afterwards on patio! Be aware, location in deep in national park, so there aren’t near by grocery stores or gas stations, so bring everything you’ll need with you, but owners are pretty aware of that and cabin has many things you might haven’t thought about to bring or just forgot! (Like Coffee!) I would recommend this cabin to anyone! Thank you for great Spring Break vacation!

Cozy spot great for small families
We had a great time - family of 4, very young kids. Lots of room outdoors to explore, great views. Our preschooler loved the little toys and art everywhere - kept him busy. Be sure to read all the great instructions from the host about traveling to the area etc. Very few stores and restaurants around but the kitchen and bathroom are very well stocked with items you may have forgotten. Just around the corner from Kings Canyon; some parts of Sequoia park are currently (early 2022) less accessible from this location due to road closures from the KNP fire last year, but everything is still well within a day trip away. Back BBQ area is so nice!

Quiet Stay
The house is a wonderful place to return after a day visiting the park. It is quiet (unlike any park accommodations). It was great to sit outside, watch the hummingbirds, turkeys, and relax. I was a bit concerned about he road out front, but there's little to no traffic. The house is well cared for, and well stocked, including many kitchen condiments (stayed in many houses that didn't even have salt!). I would definitely recommend for anyone visiting Sequoia Park.

We are former New Yorkers (Brooklyn, to be precise) and artists. We moved to Pinehurst in 2003, bought the 1940's cabin next to our home in 2007, renovated it, and opened it as Fivespot Cabin in 2008. Here's hoping you'll stay at our place next time you come to the Sierras!

Why they chose this property

Pinehurst was a flourishing logging community for decades. The Pinehurst Lodge, a short walk from Fivespot, is a locally-owned and operated restaurant in a 100-year-old former sawmill.

Cedarbrook, an early-20th century cabin community built by Mennonite families from nearby Reedley around a lovely year round stream, is a 10 minute walk away. Other nearby historical logging sites are Neff's Camp and Millwood.

Today, small cabins used as summer homes, rentals, and by full-time residents, are scattered throughout the forest. Pinehurst's year-round population is around 350.

What makes this property unique

Come to Fivespot for inspiration: 3 acres of natural space, with a view of Logger's Point beyond. Relax and recharge in its art and book-filled spaces: front porch with rocking chair, back patio, sauna, outdoor shower, claw-foot tub, and fireplace. Enjoy the drive to Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park: giant sequoias, breathtaking views, drives, and hikes, all the Sierra Nevada has to offer.
