This property was terribly misrepresented on VRBO. House was filthy, smelly, furniture was beat, could not even lock all the doors, parts of deck railing were missing. Ended up calling VRBO upon arrival and after very lengthy conversation and sending a lot of pictures they told me they would refund my stay and I could book something else which I did. Now it is two weeks later and I still do not have a refund from property manager or VRBO. NOT a good experience at all.
The property is is in a great location but the house itself needed some TLC. The decking around the pool needs to be repaired or replaced and the plant in the corner needs cut back so smaller children can get around the pool without fear of falling in. The carpet in the house should be cleaned or replaced and some of the furniture needs to be replaced. If you plan on cooking in you will need to bring your own cooking items for the kitchen. There was not a lot to work with. Overall it was a good rental. It just needed some attention.

Our Stay
Overall, the house and its condition was bad. Very old everything inside, not well maintained. 80% of the windows in the house couldn’t even be opened. They seem to be seized shut. So then we started looking for the wall air conditioning units , but discovered the units were covered in mold, and were unusable.
We had to depend on the third floor, HVAC unit.
Then, after five days of using the central air conditioning system, we noticed that our party of eight were complaining of sore throat ,congestion and sinus problems. And no, it wasn’t allergies cause half our party lives in North Carolina.
We then noticed that the three air conditioning filter inlets , located outside the master bedroom , were very caked with dust, upon opening the inlet panel, we noticed the filter was black and moldy, and you could not see through it. It was caked on. I took pictures of it and left it for the homeowner to look at later. They were absolutely disgusting and they looked to had not been replaced for several years, they were black and moldy. We had to replace them ourselves.
The house has a pool, with a wood deck, the planks were so loose that several of our party tripped while wearing flip-flops, my son-in-law had to go home to his house and get a power tool and screws to put the pool deck back in place. Dozens of loose boards.
Make a note there are no screens of any kind on this house, the second you open the window you get about 1 million flies in the house and they will harass you all night. So you have to use the HVAC system.
Make a note when you’re on the third floor and using the third floor guest bathroom, as soon as you turn that light on, it turns the light off on the balcony. Took us four days to figure out why the light on the balcony kept going off.
Other than the mold and the obviously unhealthy HVAC system., the dozens of loose pool deck boards, we enjoyed visiting the area.
The host was extremely rude. We contacted VRBO with no resolution. The property was a grossly misrepresented rental. Ranging from fire & safety violations, to health and welfare disregard. Exposed wires, totally collapsed/mold/mildew kitchen cabinets, 10 doors (only one was able to be secured). Not a single working smoke detector (we tried 3 of the 4). Hot tub full of mold, a slimy substance, and the house had a terrible odor. There were many, many more concerns.
The house was not cleaned good. The bathroom in the master did not have a shower curtain so anyone could see when you are taking a shower. Couple of the showers have mold. And there was water leaking for one of the showers into the bottom kitchen on the coffee pot and Wi-Fi Looks to be an old leak as there was some boards there already. Beds also need to be update they are old!!! Would not stay here again!!
The property was in good shape, and the location was great. While not on the beach, the two public access points are convenient for walking to the beach.
We booked this house last minute. It was the only home available that could fit our group of 3 adults and 8 children between the ages of 8 and 16.
The location is perfect. Such a quick easy walk to the beach, ice cream and Red Drum restaurant.
However, the layout of this home is rather interesting, but works I guess. There is A LOT of finish work and touch up work that is needed for this home. It has a very messy paint job through out, not of trip missing or falling off inside and out of the home. It has an awful musty almost animal urine smell upstairs that we just couldn't get rid of.
The home is supplied with kitchen utensils and dinnerware, however there is NOTHING ELSE in this house so be prepared to do a full on shopping trip for:
soap
toilet paper
paper towels
Dish soap & dishwasher pods
Laundry soap
Coffee
Sugar, salt, pepper
There was toilet paper in the house, however it was one roll per bathroom only and with a full house for the week of spring break, this did not last.
Also, bring a flashlight! The middle floor - NONE of the lights work in the hall way/stairway. It is pitch black.
The house worked for what we needed, but we were disappointed. The mattresses were definitely the most uncomfortable I have EVER slept on and the whole household agreed. But it worked for our last minute trip, but was not worth the price tag for 4 nights.
Also - beware - some (most) of the doors and sliding glass doors do not lock at all. And there are a few doors that are nailed shut.
I personally would not stay here again.
The house is nice. Had a problem in 2nd floor bedroom facing the ocean, the left side of the room had no power & a breaker was not the issue. Out of 6 TV's on the property we could only get 1 to work. Owner said to mess with the input which we did & it didn't work. For the price we paid everything should have been checked to make sure it was in working order. The owner was not concerned the TV's weren't working. When you pay $300 night you expect everything to be in working order & owner/property manager to address problems when they are brought to their attention.
