Stay

It was great. The only issue is the pool. The theater does not work properly. It needs to be replaced. A review from two years ago the person said the same thing. Also pool was always cloudy or had algae. The house was excellent. Clean as can be and just a great place to stay. Kudos

Best place EVER for a family reunion.

Bear in mind, the home is nearly 150 years old, so it’s got some minor issues (mostly related to electrical access and lighting). But in 36 years of family reunions, we’ve never had such a lovely venue. The common areas are generous, comfy, varied in sizes and views. For the first time ever we’re likely to repeat this venue for a future reunion.

Great for Family Reunion

This large beautiful property was perfect for our 2024 family reunion. We enjoyed exploring the nearby towns and it was an easy day trip to Niagara to see the Falls.

Perfect for a Family Reunion

After a family funeral we decided to spend a few days together celebrating our family in a nearby vacation town. Chautauqua was an easy drive from the Cleveland area and a wonderful spot to explore, many for the first time. The host was responsive and respectful. 4 days was not long enough to truly enjoy all this meticulously restored and decorated manor had to offer! I still want a leisurely morning spent in the bridal suite and to play a game of billiards. We had 9 families with a mix of generations staying in the manor. While we chose to mostly be together, when people were tired or needed space from the raucous energy children & toddlers can bring we had many options for contemplative, reflective and recovery time. Highly recommend! Ps- recycling is offered in the cute town of Mayville Fridays and Saturdays off Morris St. You must separate glass, metal, aluminum, paper/flattened cardboard and plastics 1,2,5 only so bring gloves if your crew doesn’t pre-separate. They collect plastic bottles and aluminum cans separately for the Boy Scouts and the community feel at the recycling center was distinctive. Boxcar Barney’s for ice cream, smoothies or a cold brew float is highly recommended!!

Wonderful family vacation home

We held a large family reunion in this home and had a wonderful time. It is such a beautiful home, has nice big spaces for our large group, and it was well-stocked with everything we needed. We also found several fun things to do nearby. Would definitely consider coming back!

family vacation week

Wish it were longer, so we could have spent more time on the property itself, and the chataqua region. We mostly boated and waterskied on lake and visited old friends. Wish we had a month. Only a few used the pool, and they loved it.

Family Memories

Our week at the Manor was terrific. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking our family meals. The grounds offered so much space for outdoor fun. The front porch was a favorite of all..and so much room for people to relax and gather. We enjoyed a day at a beach on Lake Erie 15 minutes away. Michelle was very available and helpful.

A beautiful exceptional house in every detail.

Our family reunion with 20+ adults and children enjoyed a wonderful time at the Manor. We all loved the house sitting high on a hill overlooking the lake. The expansive grounds, fire pit, and pool are well maintained and perfect for outdoor activities. The furnishings, artwork, and decor is exceptional. Each room has a special atmosphere and aura created by the wall color, fixtures, art, lighting, etc. The rooms look fancy in pictures but each has a homey comfortable feel. It is a very special unique house and we are so fortunate to have gathered there. We are looking forward to staying there again next year. Elaine from Scottsdale, AZ

A Wonderful Relaxing Home

We visited during Christmas and had a wonderful time. All we wanted was a quiet place to visit, play games, nibble all day, and enjoy each other’s company. And due to the size of the home and all the various rooms, we were able to have a perfect vacation. Plenty of rooms for our dogs, the bedrooms were fun and comfortable, the kitchens were the well stocked and with several sitting rooms, we could set up puzzles, games and still have plenty of room for meals. The ballroom was perfect, the property was really pretty and a beautiful view of the Lake. Our Host was communicative and helpful. I would highly recommend the property and we hope to visit during the Summer to really explore the 26 full acres of property. A wonderful find. Thank you Michelle.

Beautiful house for large groups

We hosted our wedding at the Manor in September. We stayed for a couple nights, and would have stayed longer if we had time. It’s a fantastic venue for special events or just large gatherings of family and friends. There is more than enough space inside and on the grounds to allow everyone to gather as a group, but the house is also divided in such a way to give everyone their own private space. It is an older venue, so we had some encounters with pests (rodents, bees, etc.) but nothing that interfered with our stay. Michelle was communicative and handled any issues quickly and effectively so that we didn’t have to worry about anything property-related for our wedding weekend. Overall, we were very happy with our booking and would definitely come back in the future.

Beautiful Week in the Manor

The Manor was the perfect home for our multi generational family. Aside from the obvious great location in Chautauqua the home itself was lovingly restored by the owner. Beautiful original art and posters were on the walls, carpets, soft sofas and lounge chairs created a warm and very inviting atmosphere. In the library the shelves had books from the previous owners. Their spirit lives on! Each one of our diverse age groups immersed themselves in the story of the manor we would certainly return.

Fabulous Family Reunion

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The home was beautiful and we had a blast exploring the rooms and outdoor spaces. We had five siblings plus spouses, seven kids ages 5-17, and one grandparent. We took turns preparing meals, taking trips to Bemus Point and Jamestown and even an excursion to a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Buffalo. The porches, grounds and pool were our favorite spaces. We had a perfect week of weather. The lake view was amazing. Having a first floor room and bathroom for our senior family member was especially nice. And having so many rooms and bathrooms for everyone made it not feel like we were overcrowded. There was always something to so even on days when we didn’t drive anywhere. Highly recommend!

You just have to see it!

The manor was perfect for our large family getaway. It's located close to everything - restaurants, golf, the Institution, stores and of course the lake. Each room was uniquely decorated and there was plenty of room for everyone to gather together. Exploring the house was wonderful adventure for all. There are little sitting areas, porches and hideaways everywhere. Every room felt like home.

Perfect place for a large gathering

We were looking for a location that could accommodate 20 persons and was centrally located for our first in-person family gathering since the pandemic. This property exceeded our expectations for comfort and amenities and helped our special occasion that much better. The property is close to town, but the 28-acre grounds surrounding it will make you feel like you've gotten away from it all. Everyone in our party (20 of us!) found someting to love about it. We'd certainly return.

Host profile image
Transplanted LA Interior Designer that moved back to WNY in summer of 2014. Together with my contractor husband, we have a passion for old homes that tell stories and make it our mission to bring them back to their glory days with modern family living in mind. We either keep them for vacation rentals or sell them so they continue their story.

Why they chose this property

CHQ Heights Manor is an unique and unforgettable property. Her history is fantastic and the soul of the house haunted me from the moment I saw it. The renovation/restoration has been a labor of love and was not for the faint of heart. Everything that we have chosen for her was done with creating a space to accommodate the needs of today’s modern families without loosing the essence of the house and the time past. We look forward to sharing this home with others for a long time to come.

What makes this property unique

Privacy, exclusiveness, able to accommodate larger groups for accommodations and have gatherings such as weddings and retreats. The views of the lake are insane. Lots of land to explore.
