Cabin 18

Overall, great cabin, location, spacious and nice sledding hills for kids and close to ski lifts. The kitchen was nice. You need to bring some mixing bowls as there were none. Improvements: Could use a tv upstairs in loft. Couldn’t get the tv to work in master. Had issues with the heater the last 3 days of the trip and maintenance was quick to respond as temps were in the teens at night. Unfortunately the part they needed had to be ordered they did give us space heaters for when the heater wasn’t working. That being said, I would rent this property again.

Enjoyable stay, great base to explore the Enchanted Circle of northern New Mexico

My family and I stayed here in Cabin 42 for a week in early August 2020. It was a great place to use as a base to explore the Enchanted Circle of Taos, Red River, Eagle Nest, Questa, and Angel Fire. During this crazy time of COVID and social distancing, the NM state parks were closed to out-of-staters, but we were still able to find plenty to do by spending time in the federally-operated Carson National Forest. Some of the specific activities we found to do included hiking multiple trails in the Wheeler Peak Wilderness, fly fishing the Red River, taking a horseback trail ride in Angel Fire, spending time in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument (even though the visitor center was closed, the land, roads, and trails could be accessed), hiking down to the Rio Grande to fish and enjoy the solitude, quiet, and majesty of the Grand Canyon of the Rio Grande, and summer tubing at the ski area in Red River. We also enjoyed just spending time on the deck in the mornings and evenings. While we were there, we saw deer every single day, including does, their fawns, and young bucks (we counted as many as 20 some days), rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, prairie dogs, hummingbirds, and more. The kids were enchanted. The property owners were friendly and responsive, however, the cabin’s VRBO listing could be cleaned up a little for the purposes of clarification. At the time we stayed, the listing showed photos of multiple cabins and their interiors that, while similar to the cabin we rented, included some differences which could potentially impact prospective customers’ decisions to select it. At the time we stayed here, cabin 42 had a king in the master downstairs, a queen in one of the upstairs rooms, and two twins in the second upstairs room. There was also a sleeper sofa in the main living area that could be utilized. There were no stools for use at the kitchen bar area, but the dining table was large and could easily seat 6 adults comfortably. The appliances were relatively new and in good condition, and the kitchen was well-stocked with the pots, pans, and utensils needed to cook for yourself (which we found extra handy during COVID). The knives could use a really good sharpening or replacement, however. The views of the mountains from the listing were a bit misleading. From cabin 42, you won’t get any kind of a sense of isolation, but you’ll still be able to enjoy the sunsets in the valley. Reasonably priced. Recommended.

Beautiful Home

The property was clean and neat. Roads were very well kept clean of any snow that fell. The home was very beautiful, clean, and maintained. Before you get there be sure to stop and get whatever groceries you may want to get. One draw back was the upstairs got warmer that the downstairs. Other than that very much enjoyed ourselves. Looking forward to a summer stay to enjoy the summer activities.

Place was awesome

Awesome place for a family vacation. Everything went very smoothly. Washer and dryer didn’t work very well. Usually took a few hours to dry clothes. But, you are on vacation so who cares. Everything else was great. I would pack extra paper towels, trash bags etc. Yea you may need snow chains or 4-wheel drive if it snows to get up to the house. But if you are going on vacation in the mountains without one or the other and expect to be able to get around then that’s your fault for lacking common sense. We will for sure be back. Super close to the ski area and town and was a easy drive to Red River to go hangout as well. Out of all the places we have stayed while skiing this is def in the top 3. Plus Karen (the lady who owns the place) was also extremely helpful and informative about what to do, where to go and just about anything else you would want to know. We will be back next year

Loved it. Nice clean cabin with a great view.

The cabin was somewhat secluded, but close enough to town to make it enjoyable. Saw a lot of wildlife including deer and elk.

Relaxing, Beautiful and accommodating!

My family and I had a great time! The cabin was perfect and had everything I needed and more. It was only minutes from anything in town and the ski lifts. The view from the porch is mesmerizing and relaxing. The only thing I would change is the comfort of the bed and pillows. They are a bit hard. Other than that, I would definitely reccommmend it!!

Great family vacation!!

This was a wonderful place to have a family vacation. The cabin was a great price and fit us perfectly! It is very accessible to the ski area and has great amenities. Angle Fire is also close to many other small towns in New Mexico, so it was fun getting to do some shopping and other fun activities in the surrounding area! This place is like my home away from home. Great for both winter time and summer time!

Perfect for family or a group of friends!

Angel Fire is beautiful, and this place is perfect!! It is great for a family, with kids, young through college age. I went with a group of college friends over Christmas break. It was a trip I will never forget! The cabin was nice and cozy. We had extra people sleeping on air mattresses, and we still had plenty of space! My friends have asked when we can go on another trip because we love the cabin and Angel Fire! We will definitely go again!

Perfect Family Spring Break Getaway

Our family spent Spring Break in Angel Fire. This was our first time skiing with everyone, and this cabin was positioned perfectly to allow easy access to the slopes. We are a large family of 7, and the cabin accommodated us very well, with plenty of space and bathrooms. The kitchen was well equipped and allowed us to save money by doing our own cooking. The place was clean and comfortable. I would recommend this cabin to anyone.

Great Family Place

We had a blast. What a beautiful area! The cabin was clean, comfortable, and perfectly located away from town but still very close to all the action. The layout of the cabin having bedrooms upstairs and downstairs was an added bonus for our family. Would definitely go back!

Our Family's spring break

Had a great time, and the accommodations were nice and very comfortable. If there had been a washer and dryer, we would have started a load of towels and sheets. We will highly recommend your home to family and friends. Thanks again for allowing us to stay.

Not for winter

We never made it to the cabin because of the road. We specifically asked owner about road conditions and were assured that no 4wheel drive is necessary. We are stranded on the christmas week and scrambling to find a place to stay with two kids. I am so upset with the owner for misrepresenting the property. The owner responded to my initial review stating that they tried to accommodated us and we were just not happy. That never happened. Neither the owner nor the broker offer to relocate us to another property. The property broker gave us a number to Discover Angel Fire so we can book another place thru someone else and pay again. They did offer later after me made another reservation to sell us another condo in the same area. But they didn't help us really. When we called them first time they told us they don't have any other properties and we need to contact the owner for any help. We had to go thru the resort and pay for a new townhome. I have to say that the resort was great about accommodating us same day and making sure we had a place to stay before it got dark. The broker told us that we should have been advised this is a mountain property and special vehicle is advised. As of three weeks later the owner nor the broker nor Homeway refunded us any money. Save yourself the stress we went thru and book with another owner. Angel Fire is a great place but not in this cabin in the winter.

Great cabin short driving distant from Angel Fire Ski resort!

Clean and close to the ski resort! Loved the loft area and liked that the bedrooms were separated so kids could stay up and not wake up parents! Liked being able to get away from the resort - but not that far away a drive!

this is a great property with an incredible few. It's warm and welcoming with a fire place. The trees are around are breathtaking. We loved the experience of being in a log cabin.

Great family cabin!

Our family spent our spring break at this cabin and it was absolutely perfect for us! We enjoyed the big, open living room and big dining room table where we could all hang out and enjoy each other! The deck and mud room were great for our kids and made it handy to get in and out with our ski equipment. Was just the right distance from the resort to feel like we were "away", but 5 minutes away from everything. We loved it! The owners were so accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay special. Highly recommended!!

A great fit!

My husband and I visited Angel Fire for a week over spring break and this house was lovely! We had some family join us as well for the trip and found it to be a perfect fit for our vacation. The house has a great set-up that allows for not only great time with family while gathered in common areas, but also enough privacy to feel like you can have some quiet time as well. We enjoyed not being right at the resort but instead having our own little cabin in the woods! We were less than 5 minutes from town but got to sit out on the swing at night and enjoy the quiet, which was perfect. There's also a wonderful fireplace that we enjoyed after being out snowboarding for the day. This would really be a great rental for families (all ages of kiddos), friends or just a couple. It was a great fit and we would love to visit again!

Angel Fire

This condo was perfect for us - cozy and the view was beautiful. The upstairs has two bedrooms - one of them has several beds and a tv. The upstairs room with several beds and a tv was perfect for kids who could stay up later playing their video games. Kitchen had all the utensils and downstairs tv has a dvd. It is not on the resort, and we enjoyed getting away to our little cabin after a full day of skiing. It is about 4 minutes drive the resort and mountain. Beautiful views and cozy place! This cabin/condo was clean and it looked much nicer than the ones at the resort.

About the host

Host profile image
We live in Frisco, Texas (just North of Dallas Texas) and have benn Texans all of our lives. We have vacationed in Angel Fire New Mexico for years and love the area. It is very family friendly and not yet commercialized. The golf course has recently been redone and is a fun course to play in the summer, of course. Our children learned to ski at the ski resort and its improvements over the years have been excellant. The snow mobiling and Red river offer other attractions that we have enjoyed for years. We ski and vacation in Angel Fire at least once every year.

Why they chose this property

The home offers a place to get away and enjoy a different pace and setting than our home in north Texas. The mountains and trees and views are impressive and the smell of the mountain air from the porch of the home is refreshing. No noise and wildlife are another reason we chose to buy in Angel Fire. The home is a one day drive from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area of Texas and is as close by car as you can get to the Colorado Mountains.

What makes this property unique

Skiing in the winter is close by the home at Angel Fire Resort (7 minutes) or Red River Resort or Taos Ski Resort (less than 45 min away). Golf in the summer is just out the back door of the home and 4X4 trails abound in the mountains near by. Shopping in Taos or Red River is just a short drive away from the home. The pace of life in the Marino Valley is slow and peaceful. Just sitting on the porch and watching the wildlife and beautiful trees is enjoyable.
