Host great to deal with

We couldn't travel or stay due to Hurricane Helene and the state of emergency that was put into place the day we were schedule to go on our trip. Luckily, we purchased trip protection insurance. The host sent us a letter stating we did'nt stay and refunded our cleaning fee. They were very responsive! Insurance paid:)

Great Weekend

Savanah is a frequent visit for my wife and I as we are only 2.5 hrs away. This is the first VRBO stay and it was a great experience with a nice location, quiet street, and clean surroundings. It's about a .5 walk to downtown and it helps get our steps in. We will definitely stay here again.

Great cozy cottage

We’re really enjoyed the layout and accommodations. The bigger bedroom was split from the second room giving some privacy. The bathroom was a decent size with a nice shower. The living room was a good size for hanging out together.

A beautiful little gem on E. Jones St.

What a wonderful trip my wife and I had two beautiful Savannah Georgia. We had always wanted to stay on E. Jones St., the prettiest street, in all of Savannah! We took our dog Bo with us, and we loved walking up and down Jones Street in throughout all the parks in Savannah. The place is really cute, it’s small, but it was perfect for us. And each morning we wake up at 6 AM and take Bo out for a walk and he loved walking through all the parks in old Savannah. This was a wonderful vacation and a great place to stay. Thank you.

May be good for some but not for us.

Based on the price and pictures the impression is this is an upscale rental which is what we are attracted to and typically rent. Unfortunately, the pictures are taken in great light and strategically do not show the condition of the floors & that its located at the run down end of Jones street and the weird and off-putting entrance. Cons: Entrance: It turns out the unit is a downstairs unit to another rental upstairs that shares the same entry door and entry keypad. Once you open the first there is another door and keypad to the left which is the downstairs unit and staircase to the right that leads up to another unit. Its just very sort of creepy, unexpected and off-putting. Notwithstanding, you hear people walking overhead and down the stairs. There is also a spiral staircase from the upstairs unit that leads to the deck for the first floor unit and shared yard. We didn't feel like the renters upstairs would enter our unit but it was off-putting all the same. Cons: Flooring: The narrow entry corridor is flanked in some sort of old redwood. It smells of pet urine and is dingy. It is not something we felt comfortable walking on without shoes. The entire living room and second bedroom tile is significantly cracked all over, dingy and dirty looking. I can't say it was actually dirty but is was so brown in many places and dingy looking all over that it gave the appearance of being filthy. Definitely not something you would want to walk on without shoes. Living room: There is a small tv in the living room and no tvs in the bedrooms. This is okay, as that was depicted in the listing but the sofa while attractive is a low back sofa so you cannot rest your back if you want to watch a movie which makes in uncomfortable for any extended time watching TV. There are also no windows in the living room so it has no natural light. There are several lamps in the living which offer dim lighting. Overall the living room, although cutely decorated doesn't have a good feel because of the flooring, low back sofa and lack of natural light. We weren't comfortable there. Bedrooms: No dresser of any sort provided but there are closets. Pros: Nice bathroom with dual showerheads Comfortable beds & pillows Cutely decorated Adequate Kitchen Outdoor space Free Street Parking Keurig & k-cups The actual "feel" of the unit is nothing like what's pictured. We paid for two nights and left after one. Not for us!

Hello!

We're Starland Stays, and we're committed to providing you with the best possible VRBO experience. We're a team of locals who wanted to find a way to share Savannah - our home - to visitors around the globe.

-The Starland Stays Team

Why they chose this property

The Beach Institute Neighborhood, on the east side of Savannah's Historic District, was developed in the 1850s by investors for the Savannah-Albany Railroad seeking to create housing for their workers. Overall, it was an integrated neighborhood with a strong German presence and black ownership as early as the 1860s. The predominant building type was the double one-story cottage. These cottages are not found anywhere else in Historic Savannah. The streets are tight, and homes abut the sidewalk, creating a very urban, city neighborhood atmosphere.

In the 1980s, the King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation and the Historic Savannah Foundation aimed to resist the gentrification and displacement occurring throughout downtown Savannah because of the historic preservation movement. The effort was successful, and today is considered a model for conscious historic preservation planning throughout the nation. Because of these initiatives, the established Beach Institute Historic Neighborhood remains the oldest surviving African American neighborhood in Savannah.

What makes this property unique

Built in 1867 by George Bulloch and Cyrus Campfield, the 1st floor apartment of this unique 150-year-old cottage house has historic charm and a deck with a vintage spiral staircase to the balcony above that overlooks the home’s private courtyard. Please note that the courtyard may be shared with guests staying in the 2nd floor apartment.
