About this property

Private Sea Access, Acapulco Gem, Cook included, Amazing Views, Pet Friendly

LOOK AT THE "OTHER" BOOKING SITE AND YOU WILL SEE THAT DOZENS OF VISITORS HAVE GIVEN US FIVE STAR RATINGS. (But we have a promotion on VRBO through May!)
Thank you so much for considering our beautiful family house.
PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR "POOL" IS OUR PRIVATE DOCK ON THE OCEAN.
We hope that you enjoy your stay at this wonderful location. Please note that we have had some good guests and some not so good via VRBO. We LOVE our house. It has been in the family for 80 years and we go down every month. My very elderly mother swims in the sea at noontime, I go down to the dock at sunset and enjoy a beer or two, and do laps between our dock and the next one (about 25M, 80FT). We eat on the terrace with the most fantastic view in Acapulco (in my opinion, partly because it barely changed at all in my lifetime). Our view is onto a national park. In the evening I enjoy reading on the terrace, looking at the palm trees sway, listening to the waves on the dock and gazing at the stars (Orion's belt in the evening, the Southern Cross before dawn.)
PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR "POOL" IS OUR PRIVATE DOCK ON THE OCEAN.

This description contains information about how to enjoy your stay, and the rules which you explicitly agreed to when you made your reservation online.

HURRICANE OTIS DAMAGE
The house suffered cosmetic damage, but the garden was very badly damaged. The first photos are from after the hurricane. The WiFi is now faster than ever.
One of the earliest villas in Acapulco, built in 1943 and still owned by the same English/American family. The location is spectacular with our own ocean access for swimming fronting the beautiful gardens.
There is a staff of two who cook, make up the rooms and may go shopping for you, too.
This property is all about location - the sunrise, the view, the fresh wind coming off the Pacific.

Enjoy your stay!

Call the administrator, Manuel Díaz, at +52 744 159 7304, or the owner, if there is anything we can do to make your vacation more enjoyable.

ABOUT THE HOUSE
This is an open-air house. You will spend most of your time on the terraces overlooking the bay, and that is where you will be served your meals. There are chaises for resting or reading on the covered terrace, or you can take a chair out to sit in the sun.

Walk down to the sea through the garden to swim, look at the fish, snorkel, or watch the sunset!

The location is one of the most secluded in Acapulco, down a cul-de-sac.

The house hosted many of the Acapulco Set in the 40's & 50’s and is just down the street from a hotel that used to be owned by John Wayne and Bobby Weissmuller (Tarzan).

The house and bedrooms are simple, but clean and comfortable. IF YOU WANT THE MOST MODERN FACILITIES, LIKE IN A HOTEL, PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE! WE KEEP THE HOUSE IN THE ORIGINAL 1940'S STYLE.

The sea in front of our house has many kinds of fish and animals. Look at the image of the whales that visit in the spring in the photos. There are dolphins, turtles, and many colorful tropical fish. Bring a mask and snorkel and see the fish right off our ladder!

The living area (not the bedrooms) of the house is open to nature and surrounded by a lush green outdoor setting, and is on the seashore, so expect geckos, bugs, crabs, birds, iguanas, raccoons, etc. The vast majority are completely harmless, but we recommend that children wear sandals at all times.

HOUSE RULES
We believe that our house rules are reasonable, and what you would expect from people staying in your own house. Viento del Sur is primarily a family house for the owner, but we like to share it with guest who appreciate it for the beauty of its location, the access to the sea, the attention of our staff, and the wonderful atmosphere of our lovely old house.

We very much want you to enjoy your stay. Happy holidays.

HOURS
Check-in is between 3pm and 7pm.
Check-out is 11am.
Late arrival will be charged $US20, for first two hours, $US40 after that (if you give us 24 hours’ notice the late arrival fee may be adjusted).
The reason for this is that Viento del Sur is a private house, and we do not have 24-hour staff like a hotel. The caretaker works a normal day.
We want to be flexible, but late departure is charged $10 per hour or part hour after 11am. (If you call beforehand, we may be able to adjust this fee).
Caretaker/houseboy hours are from 7:30am to 7:30pm, with two-and-a-half hours of rest during this time, subject to negotiation directly with him.
If you are staying a full week or longer, please note that he nor the cook will not work on Sunday.
Cook/maid hours are 9am to 5pm only.
If you are staying longer than one week, please note that she will not work on Sunday.
Any additional time worked by the staff, and work on official public holidays, is subject to negotiation.

INDIGENOUS FLORA AND FAUNA
One of the best features of Viento del Sur is that it is in a natural setting, surrounded by gardens and the ocean. That means that the presence of tropical insects, crabs, lizards, spiders, racoons, squirrels and other indigenous animals in the garden and the open terraces is unavoidable, and in the opinion of the owner, in fact desirable! (Usually creatures do not come onto the terrace or into the house, but you never know).
There are mosquito screens in the windows and mosquito nets above every bed. We sweep and clean in and around the house. However, we suggest that you take bug spray and possibly also pyrethrum coils (called “Raidolitos” in Mexico) for the bedrooms and terrace. The owner has gone barefoot throughout the house and garden for 60 years, but recommends that you use sandals inside and outside the house.

MAID SERVICE
You should expect the house and rooms, as well as the garden, to be clean and tidy upon your arrival. If this is not so, please alert the administrator or the owner immediately. Thank you.
Rooms will be made up in the morning.
Room linens, such as towels and sheets, as well as basic bar soap, will be changed on each seventh day of your stay.
The maid is not required to clean unreasonably dirty or unsanitary spaces.

THE KITCHEN
The cook/maid arrives at 9am and leaves at five. During this time, she will cook for you and make up the bedrooms.
There is a limit to what a single person can do in eight hours. Please plan accordingly.
If you request elaborate meals for many people, for example, she may not have enough time to fulfill all your requests.

PETS
There is an additional fee if you bring a pet. Please see the details in the reservations page.
Please provide a copy of a current rabies vaccination certificate for each dog that you bring, at time of booking.

USE OF THE PRIVATE DOCK
Absolutely no fishing or spearfishing from the property. Causing harm to certain species in the sea in front of the house, and throwing trash into the sea, is subject to very severe Federal penalties.
One set of biodegradable disposable plates, plastic glasses and special silverware are available to take down to our private dock.
Other table or kitchen items may not be taken out of the house.
As at many places, room linens, including towels, may not be taken to the sea.
Sorry! The owners' recreation equipment, including boats and diving equipment, is not available to guests.

SMOKING
Please do not smoke in the bedrooms. Smoking is allowed only outside.

PLUMBING & SEPTIC TANKS
Please do not introduce foreign objects, such as sanitary products or birth control, into the drains or WCs. If you block a drain during your stay, we will charge you $150US for the repair and this may not be done during your stay.

Era 1940's everything Low level Glamping

I give 100% to being able to check in early. I give 200% to Elli the housekeeper/ cook. I give 150% to Gilberto the houseman/driver. As to the house itself...1940's era is very true. It has a photo of the owner. Who has died. Some books (NOT for kids) very old. The inside is like the photo's except ...what is left out. The sofa is very old and you are sitting on wood. Nice looking slip cover. You get one set of old towels and they stay wet all day. The bed covers, sheets and pillows are very-very old and should be replaced. 1940's When we arrived we found USED SOAP in the showers. Funky used bottles of shampoo & conditioner. There are no shower/bathroom mats & it is extremely slippery. KITCHEN: Missing so many things; if you want the cook to do her magic. You must purchase everything food wise. To much to list. We bought everything ...the kitchen comes with very basic out dated cookware and a Brita that needs a filter. As does the coffee maker. The house is cleaned top to bottom by the tireless house keeper Elli. Who does an amazing job. She even came down to swim with me...I wanted a women, not a man. Gilberto starts the day early which is great for me as I am early riser. He made coffee. I got pretty sick and Elli who was taking care of me. Suggested that I go the see a doctor and Gilberto took me and then took my hubby to get stuff that I needed. Elli kept an eagle eye on me. I looked up all of the things that we thought would improve the house and our experience on Amazon. New mattress & everything else total was $3,200.00 a small investment that would increase the experience. I will say that Christopher did call me about a missing towel. His tone & manner was rude and condescending. I don't believe that this review will make any difference. Bring a set of towels for each day, soap, shampoo, cotton clothing to change several times a day. Bring sheets for a twin bed and be prepared for shoulder & back pain. If you like low level Glamping then this is the place for you. If not pay the extra few dollars and look else where. The Sutfin Family

House not ready for Vrbo

The house keepers were extremely friendly, helpful and their cooking skills extraordinary. The place needs a general renovation. No cooking supplies at all (not even a meat knife, no water, no cooking elements, extremely old towels). The living doors were broken and the bathroom fausets not working properly. Over priced for the quality you get. If you are looking for a comfortable place, we his is not your option.

Unique beach house with very helpful staff

The property is exactly the way it looks in photos. It is a classic Acapulco style house that could use some improvements to make it more comfortable. Its location is awesome with an amazing view to the sea and the pristine Roqueta island. All you see is nature, which makes it hard to believe that you are in Acapulco. Direct and private access to the sea was by far the thing we most enjoyed during our stay. Even though it rained for a couple of days the water was very clean. We watched fish and even a sea turtle! The staff are also great. Eli and Gil were very kind and treated us to great local dishes. Overall, we had a very nice weekend for my birthday celebration. The one thing that we struggle with were the insects that seemed to be everywhere because of the lush vegetation. There is no AC in the house so if you're not used to hot nights you may find it difficult to sleep. Nevertheless, this is an authentic Acapulco style beach house with very welcoming hosts and staff.

We are an English and American family with a two hundred year history in Mexico. Our ancestors built railroads, started the insurance industry in Mexico, founded the Eagle Oil Company and built up Mexico's cement industry. We are still quite English though, and have lived for many years in England and the US as well as Mexico.

Why they chose this property

Viento del Sur is really special. The garden has tropical trees and plants from all over the world. The view is unequalled. Our covered terrace has old world chaises for lounging and sleeping. Swimming at our private dock is wonderful - the sea is warm, there are lovely fish to look at even without a snorkel and visor, and the neighbors are nice (though there are high walls between the properties,

What makes this property unique

This is a secluded, old world property the likes of which most people have never seen. The staff are wonderful. The food is delicious. All you have to do is wake up, swim, breakfast, rest, swim, eat lunch, enjoy your siesta, swim, watch the sunset, enjoy your cocktails, have dinner, look at the lighthouse on the uninhabited island in front of us, see the lights of Acapulco across the bay and feel the wonderful ocean breeze.
