Very cool, waterfront Camp Tahuna calls from its oceanside location! This easily accessible, single-story home has been remodeled in a saltwater sportsman’s theme and lies center stage along the Hatteras village waterfront. In fact, should you want to bring a boat, a deep water boat slip is available for an additional charge. The property has a picnic table to enjoy your daily catches and a large, covered entrance porch offers unforgettable sunsets. The entry has a convenient washer dryer corner. The combination living, kitchen, and dining areas are perfect for intimate dining or entertaining. The kitchen has Corian and butcher block counters and the necessary appliances. Rich hardwood floors and pine walls are decorated with fishing trophies. A one-of-a-kind, half-size stern of a sportfishing boat has been made into the best bar on the island. Comfortable leather furniture complete the living area with a large flatscreen TV.

The first and second bedrooms both have twin-over-double bunk beds. A full hall bath with a shower/tub combo is conveniently close to both bedrooms. The third bedroom has a twin-over-double bunk and a full bath with a soaking shower/tub combo. The beach access is just a short drive away. Bring bikes and a golf cart, because Hatteras Village is golf cart and pedestrian-friendly. (Visit AS Austin for your beach gear, kayak, and golf cart rentals, and mention Camp Tahuna to receive a small discount!) Fresh fish and shrimp are available in season almost next door. Top of the line restaurants and shopping are just around the corner. The slip is just doors down from Oden's Dock which leads out to Hatteras Inlet. You can't beat this Hatteras Village location!

Great house, great location.

We had a great trip. The house has recently been updated and is a short walk down the dock to restaurants.

Nice but needs

This is a nice beach cottage with a convenient location and beautiful sunsets. Everything in the cottage worked perfectly. However, I have to say the bath tubs are dangerous. The height of the step into it and the fact that there are absolutely no safety bars. The tub is slippery with no bath mat to provide some stability. One in our group was unable to bathe except with a wash cloth in the bathroom sink. Please add some safety bars, and a bath mat.

This property should only be rented to people that want to wake up 4am in the morning and be gone for majority of the day. The yard is not maintained, it was not dog friendly, there was cats everywhere they got in the trash and move trash all over the yard. there was people back and forth throughthe yard. Very noisy starting at 4:00 a.m.

Not a Vacation Home - Place to Crash and Leave

This house seems to be in the process of selling as-is so nothing is being repaired. Perfectly fine as a place to crash, but NOT A VACATION HOME. There is mold in the bathroom with the ceiling in disrepair, the stove is not usable - burners either don’t work or are so crooked and broken, a pan cannot lay on them, many outlets do not work, there are cockroaches, and the yard is not kept or usable. A portion of the property is covered in fishing nets and a trailer and multiple vehicles that come and go starting at 4am - not the greatest for trying to sleep and relax on vacation. The underside of the house has a colony of feral cats that go through the trash (the outside trash can does not have a lid so it’s a trash mess by the entrance of the house). Add to the broken and missing light bulbs, making what could be a nice place, dark and dingy. The beds are fine, but clearly not new and very uncomfortable. Rent this house if you want to go out on a boat all day and want to be on Hatteras. There is a new refrigerator that has nice ice and water so catches can be stored. Internet seemed good and plenty of people can fit. Don’t rent this house if you are a family looking for a beach vacation. Wish we would have chosen to stay further north with more options.

Pretty Cool Place

Enjoyed being so close to the Marlin Club and you kind of get the feel of being in a cabin at summer camp- however it is quite loud during the early morning hours as the fish processing center cranks up. There are not a lot of amenities pretty basic. Just beware also that the fenced in area for pets has tons of sand spurs. If you bring dogs there is that hazard and lots of stray cats. A pro is that you can pretty much walk everywhere. Overall it was Ok, my crew that was fishing loved it and will probably rent it again.

Camp Tahuna

The cabin is as advertised. However, it’s not great for families or romantic getaway. It is a fishing cabin with only bunk beds and manly fishing/hunting decor. Cooking pots and pans are scratched. The location is great and the front deck is nice but no real yard, no outside shower.

30 yr vacay Record breaking sunsets!!! Guaranteed!

Great marina house! Loved the local vibe to it. Loved it all together! I’ve been coming here for 30yrs, this house gave me my all time BEST sunset views, from the porch, ever seen!!!! Great house! I can’t lie though, waking up with a boat in the living room def gave it a comical twist of “did I drink last night? Where am I?” …. We all had that hilarious moment! GREAT HOUSE! The boat was the bar/island in the house! Loved it! ❤️❤️❤️. As always house service was fabulous!

Not worth the money

Mildewed interior, no Wi-Fi, people coming up or into the rental thinking it’s a dive shop. Roof leaks. Lots of people and vehicle traffic around.

Great space and beautiful view

My family enjoyed our stay at Camp Tahuna. This house worked well for our needs since we needed a space that helped members of our family with disabilities get around. The bar was a fun spot. The rooms were clean and ready for our stay. You can walk along the docks up to the nearby restaurant. There is a beach about 8m away (near the ferry station). We enjoyed catching the sunsets on the porch and we even used the grill to cookout. The owner of the house took us on a fun boat ride. There is a corner market that you can walk to and grab supplies as needed. Overall, we had space to relax, eat, hangout, and enjoy ourselves. FYI: We had an issue with the oven (none of the display lights worked). Maintenance came by to look at the oven. The oven works — just no indicator lights. There is not an outside shower. Trying to wash off sand after the beach was challenging. The dryer took several runs to dry clothes. A few of the outlets in the kitchen weren’t functioning and the WiFi was spotty. Also on the weekend, there were others parked in front of the house for charter boat/fishing. Not a big deal but unexpected. The sign for the entrance to the house needs to be redone. It’s hard to read. The shared bathroom could use a curtain or privacy glass. The dining and coffee tables are a bit wobbly.

Failed to meet expectations

Multiple things not in working condition. Roach problem, very unkept exterior. Pool was available but it was a 30 min drive away.

No attention to detail

The property outside is dirty. There was garbage left by the stairs to enter home. The fenced in yard area was overgrown and picnic table upside down and broken. The charcoal grill was in a shopping cart and we needed to replace the grate before using it as it was rusty. Inside the rental looked nice but the master bathroom tub had black mold. We found several big cockroach bugs and even brought some home without knowing. Found them in our shoes. The refrigerator froze the food that was close to the back and we had to throw away produce and fruit because of it. We did laundry and tried to dry it but even after 3 hours it still wasn't dry. We had to only put 2 or 3 items in at once. Electric outlets didn't work and wifi also didn't work. We called to have it fixed and someone came to fix it but didn't. I had to tether to my phone's hot spot to work as I am on call all the time. That was very inconvenient. The property wasn't worth the $3000 or so we paid for it. The location is fantastic and with some TLC could definitely be a hot spot. IF all of the above were addressed we would definitely book again but at this time we rebooked for next year at a different property. We took pictures to back all of this up.

Great location!

I will start with the positives. The house is in a GREAT location. Just a short walk away was a grocery store, restaurants and other things (like jet skis). We brought our golf cart and we could drive everywhere in Hatteras Village. The dock is basically in your backyard. We would take daily walks and you could fish right of the dock. The beach is a short drive away (either on your golf cart or vehicle). The beds, showers, AC were all great too. The bad: The house is old and needs a lot of TLC. The WIFI never worked, about half of the outlets did not work, half of the stove works and the clothes dryer does not work. There is only one closet, so there is not enough places to store clothes (ex. dresser) for 6 people. We left our clothes in our suitcases. The listing mentioned that the house has access to a pool. What it does not say is that the pool is 30 minutes away. I would stay here again, but just for the location.

Not worth the money

This house is dark, damp, and dirty and we killed about a dozen roaches and spiders inside the home during our stay. There was a bin with plenty of clean linens, which came in handy when the rain was leaking into the house through the kitchen ceiling. This house is located on the sound side directly next to a fish company. There were vehicles and large trucks, as early as 4:15am, coming to and from the fish company, as well as a running generator that could be heard all night (and day) long. The outside shower that is supposedly "being upgraded" is non-existent, and the enclosed yard is covered with weeds and overgrown brush that the yard cannot be used. The driveway to the home is also the access to boat slips and there were cars coming and going in order to access the boats. I gave the house two stars because the AC and hot water worked really well. If you are looking for a place to hang out and relax, this is not the home for you. If you are looking for a place to crash because you are getting up early to fish, maybe, although I think it is overpriced for that and you can get a hotel room down the dock.
