Great location and ocean views. The house had plenty of room for our family. We enjoyed our morning coffee and sunrises on the big deck. The hot tub was also a plus. Only negatives:internet didn't work whole week and the house needs updating. Overall great place for vacation with very easy access to the beach ⛱️.

Great little house
This was our third time and it did not disappoint. The kitchen was well equipped, but the kitchen appliances are really on their last leg .

Great house. Great stay
I had several teenagers at this house for a week and we had an amazing time. 3 of the 4 bedrooms have a view towards the beach. The master has a sunrise view from the bed. Ocean views from the top floor are great. Note, houses in this part of Avon are set back further than, say the one I’ve rented in Nags Head. So yes, you walk a little ways to the beach, but not far. And, you don’t see the houses from the beach! The hot tub is great. Worked perfectly. The WiFi is DSL, so even when it was repaired, it wasn’t great. LTE is strong so I used a WiFi hotspot to work, which was fine. This is a classic cedar house. The upper floor has great views and beach front access. I will try to rent this house again.

Perfect Beach Vacation
We would highly recommend this home. We absolutely loved our entire stay. The home was comfortable and very spacious for our group. Its ocean front (who doesn't want to wake up to a view of the beach?) and has SO many windows for ample amounts of beautiful views. This house come equipped with everything we needed plus way more than I had even expected, such as the beach equipment. The hot tub is the perfect way to end your day as the sun has gone down and you can enjoy your family and friends with the sounds of the waves. If you're considering this home I would highly suggest you go for it! Also, as always, I love love staying in Avon. Its small and quiet yet so convenient with the grocery store just minutes down the road from you. So if you want a quiet , family oriented, perfect week away at the Beautiful Outer Banks, book away!
The house is BEAUTIFUL! It had all of the accommodations we needed. The outdoor shower was very convenient. Plenty of room to store all of our beach stuff. Loved having multiple bathrooms and entrances. The only con we can think of is the large sand dune out front. It was a little difficult to climb with our belongings. We brought my parents and our 3 kids so we had a good load to take over the dune. It was my mothers first time seeing the ocean and she had some difficulty getting out to the beach due to the climb. Otherwise it was perfect. The house is absolutely Gorgeous! Very clean! We loved all of the windows and the decks. The views are amazing. Highly recommend this place!

Pros - We like the location - somewhat hidden away and off highway 12 - even though close to everything. Comfortably furnished and the kitchen was well stocked for all of our needs. Yes -there is a Keurig even though one is not shown in the picture. Zoned AC lets you balance the temps for daytime comfort. The spa on the lower porch is newer and convenient for two of the four rooms and well placed for returning from the beach or stargazing at night. Champagne deck allows shaded outdoors when the main decks are too hot. Lots of games available. Convenient hoses for rinsing off sand before entering. The paddleboard was nice.
Cons - Not many channels included in the cable package but most people don't travel to the beach to spend much time watching the tube. No direct boardwalk to the beach (although the public one is two doors down) and the dune is a bit steep. Under heavy rain there was a leak in the SW bedroom (bunk room) and there are obvious signs that this has happened for a while. Kitchen faucet is a little 'loosish' and likes to run unless you situate the handle just-right. No garbage disposal. Odd floor vent in the kitchen floor. You can barely see the ocean clearly from the house due to the large dune in front. This is unusual for oceanfront homes. I guess the house is also well protected from severe storms. You can however hear the ocean. The sliding door in the master bath can 'hop' off the rails fairly easily and we learned right away that you have to carefully maneuver the heavy glass door or risk it falling in on you.
My family and I stayed two weeks during Labor Day weekend. It's my second time at this property and it won't be the last. It's easy access to the beach and the kitchen can accommodate making meals for a full group. The true gem of the house is the deck. The view during the sunrises and sunsets are absolutely gorgeous.

Relaxing in the Outer Banks
My sister and I had a fun and relaxing week in Avon. Yoga on the beach, tandem hand gliding, delicious seafood, and walks on the beach! The house was well maintained and had everything we needed. A great time!

Notes on Grey Gables
The cottage is charming, with great views. However there seems to be perennial problems with internet connectivity and cable tv. We had problems both last year and this year.
Also faucets drip and toilets run, and electrical outlets in master br are loose. I would think Meg, the owner, could save $ if faucets and toilets were fixed.

Lovely oceanfront
We loved the house. Nice for an older home. Loved sitting on the porch in the evening listening to the waves. Loved the private walk over the dunes with no steps to the beach! Loved all the beach stuff to use. Would love to come back again.
The house is exactly as described in pictures and written details. The upstairs is very open and we never felt crowded. There were 4 adults and 2 teenagers in our group. We even thought , that another family of 3 could have joined us without feeling cramped. The four bedrooms and 3 baths are downstairs. 2 bedrooms have a full bath, 2 share the other. There is plenty of deck space on both levels. The jacuzzi is on the lower level and was wonderful. Clean and in great working order. Whoever cleans this home does an immaculate job. The beach is a bit of a hike and uphill, but is closer than depicted in the pictures. The beach is huge and not crowded. The area of Avon, is safe but has very few activities for children. It is definitely more laid back and less congested, but worth the drive. There is a food lion for groceries and some nice restaurants, pizza places , and of course ice cream. We recommend Ocean Bistro, Dirty Dicks, Gidgets and cups and cones. Hatteras is about 30 minutes to the south, where the lighthouse is, as well as parasailing, wave running and fishing. We did go to corolla for a day trip to see the wild horses. Definitely worth the 1.5 hour drive north. We booked a tour and would not try this on your own. Lastly, as I said this was perfect for us, but the house does have a few areas that need attention. The master bath renovation has been completed, but is still lacking trim work. There is a lot of wall paper in the downstairs, no big deal to us. The decks need sealed. Lastly, there is a small charcoal grill. Would have loved a large propane grill. Overall, this would not prevent us from from renting again.

Perfect location, mid-range accommodations
Great view of the dunes, fabulous ocean breezes. Outdoor spaces perfect to enjoy the sea. House appears partially renovated, main bedroom freshly painted/new rug, bathroom renovation incomplete. Kitchen well appointed, lots of prep space. All appliances in working order, ice maker works great. Seating options for hanging out in LR inadequate for number of beds. No Smart TV/streaming access. Hottub cover incredibly difficult to open/close without assistance, could likely use replacement. Would stay again, but only with no more than two couples. Hopeful that updates will continue, because outside is lovely!
This house was perfect for our family as we sought a respite from all things Covid. It was immaculate. We enjoyed everything the home had to offer especially the hot tub in November. Only drawback was the unfinished bathroom in the master. Needs baseboards and the toilet should be secured. Some of the window shades did not work and we missed some beautiful views. Will definitely book again!

Disliked: Listing accuracy
Great location with potential, but not as expected
The location of the house is wonderful, couldn't ask for a better view and access to beach. On arrival to the house, the owner was there along with a contractor installing a shower into the master bedroom. There was work debris everywhere. The owner was polite enough, offered to let us come in. I was very confused as to why there was major remodel going on right in the middle of the time that we paid for and way past check in time (6pm).The house was NOT ready for our arrival. So we left to get groceries, eat and do other things. When we returned it was still a mess, sheet rock dust in the bathroom and loose screws all over the deck. So I cleaned the house and we finally settled in. I will say the house needs alot of updates to the inside and repairs to the outside, but the kitchen is fully stocked, the location is unbeatable, the hot tub was clean and comfortable and overall the house was ok.

Overall the stay was great. This is an older home and there was signs of some mold on the ceiling in the master bedroom. It could use an update of kitchen utensils and the pots and pans could be replaced. Other than these few glitches, we had a really great time on the banks and the house was doable and the seclusion was remarkable. Proximity to the beach was another bonus. Thanks to Hatteras and the homes owners for allowing to enjoy the this vacation.
