This quaint quarried from the river stone cottage sits right on Little River. Enjoy beautiful views of the river while relaxing in the hot tub on the screened in deck or roasting marshmallows around the fire pit on the stone patio. Also you can enjoy views of the river from the master bedroom and the living room. There is a boat dock and deep water and we provide 2 kayaks and paddles. Please bring your own life jackets. The completely fenced yard is perfect for dogs. You will love our modern fully stocked kitchen with stainless-steel full-size refrigerator, gas range/oven, dishwasher and microwave. You can grill steaks on the charcoal grill on the back deck. Our cozy living room with a large stone gas log fireplace will make you want to stay forever. Have a family game night with games, puzzles and cards that are stored in the chest in the living room. Both spacious bedrooms contain queen beds and flat screen Roku TV’s.

Located 8-10 minutes from downtown Mentone, 15 minutes to Desoto State Park, 25 minutes to Cloudland State Park

Perfect Family Getaway

Exactly what we were looking for! The Shire was perfect spot for our quick family get away. Close to everything but entertainment right on site. Kayaking the river - finding the old dam/waterfall, saw wildlife (deer, geese), fishing, ending the day in the hot tub then dinner around the fire. Holly was great help with ideas for entertaining a 14 yr old and things to do. Highly recommend!

Great property, great communication

We enjoyed this riverfront cabin, and the fenced in yard was perfect for our dog. The property manager was also easy to deal with, and helped us facilitate a late-notice date change with no fuss.Only good things to say! We plan on returning in the future.

Perfect Mountain Getaway

The Shire is a phenomenal property. We created some precious memories during our stay. It's quiet, gorgeous, dog friendly, and comfortable. I hope we can visit again someday!

Wonderful fully fenced pet friendly home

My husband and I stayed two nights with our new rescue dog and we all had a great time. The house was clean and cozy. Beds were comfortable, shower had good pressure and lots of hot water. The Shire is in an easy location to get in and out, but private enough that you feel secluded. The fenced in yard was the biggest part for us. We could let our dog outside to play knowing she was safe and couldn’t get lost. Lots of amenities like washer/dryer, hot tub, fire pit and kayaks for your use.

Pick The Shire for your R&R vacay

We are from Florida and take a vacation every summer to a different state. I like to plan our vacations around waterfalls, lakes and rivers. The Shire was the perfect place for us. We love cozy cabins/cottages and this did not disappoint. Right on the river with kayaks to use. We also brought our own floats which were very relaxing on the river. Some of the nearby waterfalls were dried up due to lack of rain but I was happy to get to see 5. The Shire was was clean and came with a lot of amenities others don't offer. Holly was amazing by accommodating us for an extra night. She also helped us find The Shire since we punched in the wrong County Road (oops)! We would recommend The Shire for anyone looking for some R&R. They are very dog friendly as well with a chain link fence in the backyard. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Awesome place to stay

My 87 year old mother and my sister wanted to stay in a cabin in Mentone, where we could relax and just enjoy spending time together. My mother was also bringing her 2 year old dog for her first trip. This is a perfect place if you have pets or kids or just want to relax. The river is amazing and full of fish and there are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities. The place was very clean and well stocked. We will be staying again more than likely in the fall to enjoy the season change.

Spring Break at the Shire

We had a great and relaxing stay at the Shire over our Spring Break week. Our son enjoyed taking the kayaks out each afternoon and we are enjoyed the wood fire pit followed by a soak in the hot tub every evening. It was quiet, safe, and easy to find. We found the beds comfortable and we all slept well. Close proximity to Mentone and all the area has to offer. We would definitely love to return and explore more in this area. The cabin is located right near the state line with a respective time zone change, so be aware that your phone will keep changing time as you arrive and depart.

Great getaway cottage

The cottage is very cute and homey. We stayed from 12/27 - 12/31/23. The temps dropped LOW!! we saw some snow showers/flurries. The hot tub was very welcoming considering the cold. The Shire was very quiet and tucked away. We visited the Mentone Market. Great pizza. Wildflower Cafe had a wait but was delicious...the loaded shrimp grits were perfect. The Hattery was also a nice lunch spot. We drove to Ft. Payne to The Santa fe cattle company forva steak dinner. Only about 20 miles. Wonderful food. We visited little river canyon falls and desoto falls during our stay. Both were breathtaking. We are thinking about staying again in the warmer months to lounge at the river. I would recommend this cottage. The fenced yard was nice for our dog.

The Shire Weekend Getaway

My husband and I stayed at The Shire with our two miniature Dachshunds. Upon arrival we were amazed at all the detail the owner had taken to ensure a relaxing time away from home. The home and amenities are gorgeous. A much needed getaway - thank you for a wonderful time.

Amazing gem and wonderful location

Our stay at The Shire was nothing short of amazing! A quiet retreat with all the perfect amenities. It was peaceful and comfortable accommodations. The host was very responsive. We enjoyed the local cuisine, hiking, kayaking, and amazing scenery. We will stay here again! Cannot say enough wonderful things about this splendid cottage.

A great weekend

We really enjoyed our stay! Even though there was a burn ban and a drought, we relaxed in the hot tub, hiked in Desoto Park, visited arts & crafts events, went antique shopping, and ate local. The fenced in yard was a plus for our dogs. A perfect getaway to celebrate our 27 year anniversary.
