This property worked perfectly for our family! The screened in porch and deck was ideal! The kids caught so many fish right off the dock and the view is amazing! We brought our boat and the lake was so much fun! We went to the Thirsty Otter for dinner on the boat and the kids thought that was great!
The property was lovely and welcoming. We absolutely loved the view from the cabin's screened in porch. Beds were comfortable. We rented a pontoon boat from the marina located on Balsam Lake for both days and had great time. Enjoyed the on-site stand up paddle boards. Host was delightful to work with.
Great place, all you need. Beautiful lake. Well equipped home, comfy and great accommodations! Host was great to work with. Only critique is no WiFi and very limited channels on tv. But that’s minor and did not detract from the lovely time. Thank you!
The closeness to Balsam Lake and the outdoor patio/screen porch are what make this place special. We greatly enjoyed the swinging hammock chair, fire pit, and screened porch areas with ample seating for all the family to enjoy. Having just a DVD player was nice as it encouraged everyone to play games at night.
Cabin worked out great for 5 adults and 2 children. We brought a fishing boat which was easy to to get docked at the cabin. Fishing was also good right off the dock. The screen room was great for relaxing in the evening. We had a very nice time.
The cabin is right on the lake with bald eagles flying by several times a day. The only issue we had was with the bed in room 4, it was very uncomfortable.
We were in a great spot on Balsam Lake - much less traffic and quiet. The house was everything we need to 2 family's of 4. The house is obviously used by family and friends because it is STOCKED with EVERYTHING you need. We were shocked how much was there for us to use. The wifi was no bit deal - our kids were having to much fun to be plugged in and it forced us adults to talk and read and relax. We would come back in a heartbeat and plan to next summer!
I stayed at this property with friends and had a wonderful time. The screened back porch kept us mosquito free with plenty of seating and room to move around in. The view cannot be beat and the beds were comfortable and large. I would stay again! If you are planning to stay here, know that there is no wifi and no laundry on premises (the listing does not indicate otherwise, these are just two items we accidentally of overlooked when making our selection). Other than that, we had everything we needed!
Awesome lakefront and well kept and stocked home. Great and ample water toys. We especially loved the large screened in porch. We were disappointed that the listing was misleading in one aspect. It neither confirmed or denied that there was WiFi, which would have been useful to know as the house has spotty cell tower connectivity. After we booked it said to contact the host for WiFi information, which made it seem like they would present us with login info, or something similar. However the property does not have wifi at all. We would choose this place again but the owners should clarify WiFi status.
Our class of '81 friends got together for an annual reunion. We loved the space! The screen porch that overlooked the lake was used for coffee mornings and catching up evenings. We enjoyed the fire pit and watched the moon come up, hoping to glimpse some of the possible northern light show.
This cottage is very well stocked for cooking, might need to bring some more foil and food storage containers, but there are plenty of kitchen towels, wash clothes and bath towels. There is a nice big, square dining table for meals and game playing. The beds were comfortable and three of the rooms had king beds, which was great for our crew. There was so many water toys!
The dock was used a lot too. We recommend renting a pontoon from Sunnyside Marina that was about a 10-15 minute cruise to the cottage. The lake is huge and fun to explore. Be sure to get a map of the lake with an explanation of the underwater hazard areas, but also the restaurants and bars.
We ate out one night at the Thirsty Otter, pretty good. If you want a supper club, make ressys at least three weeks in advance. Went to Balsam Lake Lodge just for drinks (have food too), it was a very nice bar.
Rebekah the host is so very nice to work with to get details, recommendations and responded to any questions we had right away. She did a great job of making her multi-generation owned cottage charming and welcoming. She knows so much of the area and has lots of recommendations in her welcome book. Will definitely book again!
This place is very clean and the kitchen is well stocked. We spent most of our time on the small tennis court on the property that is the perfect size for pickle ball. We brought removable lines and a net for our stay. There are large cracks in the court which might deter serious players, but added an element of humor and fun for us. There were seven of us, and that there wasn't enough couch/chair seating for all of us to gather in the family room area which was unfortunate. The cabin is older but has been updated and is comfortable. I also didn't realize that the King bed in one of the rooms was actually a day bed and trundle put together which was not ideal for my husband and I who had already set up in that room (better for kids, maybe). The views are beautiful, however, and there is plenty of seating outdoors. We also enjoyed using the two paddle boards. One of us had to work one of the days and was able to connect to a hotspot and use a computer due to no wifi. It was nice to disconnect from tech for a few days as well. Overall, the cabin worked very well for us and we had a great time!
This was our second year renting this property and it was once again a lovely combination of comfort and convenience. We loved the new landscaping and other updates, including A/C! Such a special experience.
The rental on Balsam Lake was a perfect getaway for my family of 5: two teenage sons, mother-in-law, wife, and myself. Bedrooms were well equipped with comfortable beds. The two bathrooms were nice and the showers had great water pressure.
The kitchen/outdoor grill has everything you need for meals, including a wonderful dining table for mealtime. We also enjoyed the rentals paddle boards and propane firepit.
We were able to rent a pontoon from Sunnyside Marina on Balsam Lake, which allowed us to fully enjoy all of the lake while docking at the rental. You can even get to a few restaurants by water.
When we were not on the water, we spent all of our time in the screened-in-porch. It was amazing for playing games, reading, and relaxing.
It was a great stay. I would recommend to anyone considering.
We loved our stay at this property! There are so many great places to relax near the water and very nice kitchen well equipped for cooking all meals. Property owner was easy to work with. Highly recommend!
The cabin was great! It was very clean and had a lot of amenities to use. The lake view was amazing and the screened in area was great for when it was raining. Rebekah was extremely responsive and helpful. We loved it so much we are already looking at available dates for next summer!
This home is perfect for families and friends looking to enjoy the beauty of the lake. The house is beautifully decorated and has everything you'll need to make your stay enjoyable. We appreciated how thoughtful and elegant all of the little helpful things were- like a s'mores kit, plenty of supplies for cooking and eating, and the guide to local favorites. This was our first trip to Balsam Lake- we visited the village and loved it, but also loved coming home to our little slice of lakeside bliss. We can't wait to come back!
Absolute stunning and relaxing lake house on Balsam Lake. Very Clean & Comfortable. Abundant supply of linens. Breathtaking views from the screened in porch. Our North Carolina Customers loved the quietness and comfortable accommodations. Highly recommend this house!
What a great place to stay. A great house with amazing porches (the screened in porch is the BEST!) and access to the lake for fun and much needed relaxation!!
Rented with 8 people and was the perfect size. Loved the porch/patio spaces. Great amenities, easy check in and great communication. Would definitely recommend!
Great cabin with very cute trinkets including s’mores basket and k cup station. Weather was horrible but we had a good time.
Things that would have been helpful would be WiFi so we could work from the cabin and watch Netflix for the children. And also a “how to” instructions for resetting the breakers because we tripped the power over 10 times.
We arranged 5 days on Balsam Lake and found the house we rented to be absolutely perfect for us. The common spaces are inviting, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms were modern and efficient. Most of all, the stunning Lake views and direct Lake access made our time incredible. Thanks again!
We had a quick 3 day stay at this home and it was wonderful! Located right on the lake with a dock to fish from and several toys for us to use on the lake. The home is decorated right out of a magazine with several small touches that made it very comfortable.

About the host

This cabin has been in our family for over 50 years. It has been a source of many laughs and days of relaxation, as well as fun times and family bonding. There is nothing more amazing than the feeling of the sun on your back while the fresh breeze of the lake is on your face. We are at a point in our lives where we would like to share our little piece of heaven, especially in these times of difficulty. I am the mother of two beautiful young women and the step-mother of 3 delightful little boys. We love fishing, four-wheeling, boating and just being on the lake or outdoors. In the boathouse you will find paddleboards and a paddleboat if you want to slow down your lake living experience or feel free to visit Sunnyside Marina and rent a boat or jet-skis and live it up. There are also two restaurants on the lake to enjoy for all your dining experiences.
Why they chose this property
This property allows for all your vacationing needs in one spot. Once you arrive you won't need to leave. A whole host of services are located right on the lake.

What makes this property unique
Balsam Lake is unique as it is located only about an hour to an hour and a half outside of the Twin Cities. It is also unique with its access to two on the lake restaurants and a marina. It is great for fishing, as well as swimming and all your recreational needs, but doesn't harbor the craziness and congestion of the lakes near the cities. Our property is located on 1 1/2 acres so you have plenty of space to spread out and have some on land fun as well as water fun.
