Not terrible. Not Fantastic.
We visit Big Bear every summer from AZ to mountain bike and enjoy the town, so we’ve stayed in a number of locations. This unit is quaint and has loads of potential, however it’s definitely in need of some improvements. The Good: The pet friendly location has a beautiful split floor plan with plenty of seating, and the side yard is spacious, although a bit overgrown. The beds were comfortable and we had all the amenities needed. Also the location was nice. The Not So Good: Upon arrival, we found an old load of dishes still in the dishwasher, and some scattered wrappers and paper trash in the front yard that we picked up. The walls in the home need paint, or at least a good cleaning in the kitchen, as they are quite dirty with splatter and smudges. Overall cleanliness was below average. We’re mountain people so we understand bugs can be a nuisance, but this place was overrun by ants. Old countertops are poorly sealed and we had a trail of ants in our kitchen sink daily, as well as all around the dog food, bathroom, etc. A number of Spiders hung also from the shower head and bedroom door. The most noteworthy thing for families to know is regarding the spiral stair case leading to the kids loft. If the play area upstairs is a selling point for you, reconsider - It sort of sticks out into the walkway so taller adults will need to watch their heads as they pass by. But more than that, the stairs are broken; the hand rail is fully cracked with some sort of strap holding it together. So I’d be reluctant to send any children climbing up there. We are a family of adults and didn’t use the area, but I think that no one should be climbing those until properly repaired. All in all, it’s decent and in a nice location. But we wouldn’t stay here again unless renovations are made.
